So I had a thought for a theme-based gish character, but I'm looking around and the pieces aren't quite fitting together, just curious if the great think tank of the playground can get these pieces to fit together a little better.

The concept I had in mind was a dagger sorcerer.

My original thought was a metamagic specialist (PHBII), Stalwart (CM) Battle (UA) Sorcerer using Cloud of Knives (PHB II) and Steeldance (SpC) spells and wielding a dagger.. However, it looks like Steeldance knives don't follow you, but stay in place and attack anything that comes near them, making it quite the mediocre BFC spell. I pondered using Arcane Thesis: Cloud of Knives but it'd be pretty hard to even get good damage out of it piling metamagic on it.

I considered Arcane Trickster for Sneak Attack and Craven feat, but prerequisites are just too steep, likely needing to sacrifice caster levels to meet them. Plus 3.5 sneak attack has its own whole slew of problems.

Could some kind of dagger-gish-caster come to fruition? Or is just insufficiently supported by the material?

Daggerspell Stance doesn't stack with insight bonuses, and Daggerspell Mage is very meh. Cloud of Knives is great though. Combines well with Persistent Spell and Fell Drain.

Whirling blade should also get some special mention for a blade-based gish.
