Hey guys,
I'm setting up a new short campaign for my team and I'd like to mess with NPC stats a bit. I'd like to have "spells known" changed for two of them, but I'm not all that good with spell synergy and stuff, so I said I'll ask here. Both are rather experienced guys. One is an experimentalist mage, another a Drow adventurer/assassin.
First guy is a mage who, by the power of module design, controls about a dozen zombies. He is an (rather amoral) explorer, researcher, who likes to explore weird magical places and has to deal with random encounters often. Here is his spell known setup:
cantrips: 3
1st lvl(4 slots): 2
2nd lvl(3 slots) 2
Second guy is a Drow, also a spellcaster, but much more dynamic. He has at his disposal about half a dozen bugbears and similar number of large spiders. He is often engaging random encounters and adventurers.
Here is his spell known setup:

1st lvl(4 slots): 3
2nd lvl(3 slots) 2
Which spells should they take and how should they use them in combat?
