Hi everyone,
English is not my first language and I'm not sure if this is the best place to put this thread. If it's not I'll remove immediately.
I'm an English teacher in Brazil and I came across a situation that may need help from a native speaker. In Brazil, if you want to work for the government agencies you are supposed to pass a test. The literal translation to English would be something like "Public contests". Is this the same in your country? Do you happen to know how to call this in England or the US?Thanks for your help

No. It's called a Civil Service Exam.

Is this the concurso público? 'Civil service entrance examination' does seem to be the standard phrase in English.
