View Full Version : DM Help Midday Spell Changing

The cleric, druid, paladin, and wizard spell preparation sections all say that "You can change your list of prepared spells when you finish a long rest." However, they also say that preparing a spell requires one minute of meditation/study per spell level for each spell.

Older editions gave the ability to reserve spell prep for later in the day, but the Vancian system was also much stricter, so this was rather less powerful than it is now. What I'm wondering is, has anyone experimented with midday spell changing in 5th Edition enough to know whether it has a significant effect?

I have, it's useful if you have the time for it. For example my party was expecting a dragon attack in 2 days, so we cast a bunch of defense spells (like explosive ruins and animate dead) then we long rested and prepared offensive and buff spells to fight the dragon
