So I'd like to build a character around the Pathfinder's Eldritch Knight's capstone '' Spell Critical '' wich allows to cast a spell as a swift action when you confirm a critical hit.

The question is: What are the better ways to get a lot of criticals ? On one hand rapier dual wielding is a lot of attacks with the best crit range, but you lose some attacks to movement (compared to archers).

I guess, beyond that, we would need to increase the amount of attack rolls made per turn ? What if we used spells like spiritual weapon ? That's already a tiny bit more attack rolls. Is it efficient, I doubt it.

Any other ideas ?

Edit: I'm playing with this idea because I'm making a gestalt character. I'd like to have a mage who gets a little more on the action economy by casting a lot of spells with the attacks he makes using the other side of the gestalt. 3.5 material on a per-approval basis.

Nothing precludes the Eldritch Knight from using this ability when fighting with a ranged weapon. You could pull it off with an archer, or thrown weapons with good critical ranges.

If I had to pick, I'd go with a Magus character (Myrmidarch) archetype for one part of the Gesalt. You'll get spell combat with both melee and ranged weapons, and auto qualify for Eldritch Knight, not to mention get Fighter weapon and armor training. Fill the other side with a spellcasting class of your choice if you want.

Crossbows are a good ranged weapon to get 17-20 crit ranges with (base 19-20/x2 crit). You'll just need to get the feats to actually use it with a full attack action.

One of my favorite combos for getting tons of confirmed criticals is Soulknife (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/psionics-unleashed/classes/soulknife) + Emulate Melee Weapon (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/psionics-unleashed/classes/soulknife/blade-skills) [Terbutje (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/equipment---final/weapons/stone-age-weapons)] (or any other weapon that naturally has the fragile weapon special) bladeskill + Disposable Weapon (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/general-feats/disposable-weapon) Feat + Rapid Draw (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/psionics-unleashed/feats/rapid-draw) Feat.

What this nets you is a mindblade that upon scoring a crit-threat, you may choose to break it to auto-confirm. Then as a free action reform the mindblade allowing you to continue your full attack.

Dual wielding an 18-20 weapon with improved critical/keen for a 15-20 is a good place to start. Dual wielding occupies your hands so no casting somatic spells though...

Critical focus gives you a +4 to confirm any critical threat.

You only have one swift action per turn-since you're limited to one spell per turn, you only need one crit per turn. A 15-20 weapon+haste (18-20 with improved critical or keen) will do the job.

This is interesting. The mindblade seems pretty well suited for the job.

It seems to work best at levels 1-5 and then at level 14 +. Between that, there is no way to throw multiple mind blades right ? No until you have

Multiple Throw

The soulknife can throw a number of mind blades per round equal to the number of melee attacks she could make. A soulknife must be at least 14th level to choose this blade skill.

Or did I miss something ?
