Trying to come up with a way to carry a single Stronghold Space fort in ones inventory.

The fort is Mobile, with the top of the line fly speed, air tight, submersible and made out of the stronger materials.

Is "Stronghold Space" a defined game term? I'm not sure I've heard it before, so I'm not sure if you're referring to something specific that already has rules or if you're referring to, well, something else.

Your last sentence makes it seem like you've got a specific fort in mind rather than just looking for something like an Instant Fortress (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/wondrousItems.htm#instantFortress). To that end, I'm not really sure what options exist. Shrink Item requires that the item be no larger than 2 cubic feet per level, so that's likely not going to work unless you get a crazy gigantic caster level. There's always extradimensional storage space, but your fort is likely too big to fit into a Bag of Holding or an Enveloping Pit.

I think we need more information. How big is this thing, how magical is it, what game rules does it already use, etc.

A good place to start would be by combining an instant fortress (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/wondrousItems.htm#instantFortress) with an apparatus of the crab (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/wondrousItems.htm#apparatusoftheCrab). The former gives you collapsability, the latter mobility and combat capability. Make it out of adamantine, or riverine if you're feeling fancy, and all it lacks is flight. Of course, such an item would probably be absurdly expensive.

It's from the Stronghold Builder's Guidbook, basically the "unit" by which various components of strongholds are measured.

It definitely sounds more specific than an instant fortress, but maybe something could be homebrewed based off of that.

As a frame of reference a stronghold space is roughly 20' x 20' x 10' high, with the actual dimensions being fluid as long as ~400 square feet and ~4000 cubic feet is the end result.

Maybe some variant of a shrink item spell? At a fraction of actual size and made of cloth, it could be anything from a large handkerchief to a battle standard.

With some liberal reading, you could consider a Permanencied Shrink Item (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/shrinkItem.htm) to be a valid target for infinite shrinking. Cast it on every part of your fortress and toss it to the ground when you need it restored.

Huh. Its actually a bit bigger than I thought it was.

I was trying to go with 1 x 1 x 1 box. Using a few other effects to set up the inside as an extra dimensional space.

Hmm... could minor servitor be cast on the instant fortress while it is in cube form?

What about on a folding ship? Then add stuff from a&eg to it.

Minor servitor can only be cast on nonmagical material.

However, an Initiate of Mystra might be able to create an AMF, place the cube inside (turning it nonmagical), then cast Minor Servitor.
