Mage Scan
Divination
Level: Sor/Wiz 5
Components: V, S
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: line of sight
Target: all magical auras within range
Duration: instantanious

Mage scan shows it's caster every magical aura within their line of sight in detail. This spell does not give any help at all in interpreting them, however, and therefore is rarely used except by brilliant wizards with realistic ambitions to become archmages, or by actual archmages. Unlike with detect magic (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/detectMagic.htm), auras are not distorted or concealed. As part of casting the spell, you make a Spellcraft check; the result determines what information you can glean from the auras this spell shows you. Checks that are failed because of too many auras in the area reveal the information gleaned from a number of auras equal to what the check would reveal, starting with the closest ones and working it's way out until the DC would be too high.

A Spellcraft check of DC 15 + the level of the highest-level spell within your line of sight + 1/3(maximum DC 30 for this purpose) reveals the number of magical auras within the caster's line of sight rounded down reveals the number, strength, and school(s) of each aura that the check can identify. The caster can voulentarily increase this DC(both real and maximum) by 5 to learn exactly what the spells are that generate these auras, as if they had seen the somatic components or heard the verbal components.

A Spellcraft check of DC 20 + the caster level of the most powerful(going by caster level) magical item within line of sight not being worn by the caster + 1/5 the number of magical items within line of sight(maximum DC 50) reveals information about all nearby magical items as per identify. The caster may voulentarily increase the DC(both actual and maximum) by 10 to learn information as if from analyze dweomer.

A Spellcraft check of DC 40 + the number of valid targets of legend lore that emenate their own magical auras(no maximum DC) reveals all information that a legend lore spell would reveal with that person, place, or thing at hand.

A Spellcraft check of 10 or below causes Boccob, or an equivalent deity(one with both the Magic and Knowledge domains), to create an avatar near the caster and bitchslap him or her repeatedly for being a bloody idiot.

First of all, that bottom one is hilarious.
Otherwise, I like it.

Thanks. Anything wrong with it, though?
