so.. my character is a human 10 bard/8 sublime chord, with a charisma score of 26.
I'm confused as to how many spells he knows and how many he can cast per day..
as 10 level bard he learns
level number
0.____6
1.____4
2.____4
3.____4
4.____2
spells...
as a sublime chord he learns
level number
4.____4
5.____4
6.____4
7.____3
8.____2
spells.. which comes out at a total spells known of
level number
0.____6
1.____4
2.____4
3.____4
4.____6 :smallconfused:
5.____4
6.____4
7.____3
8.____2

whereas the spells I can cast per day are numbered:

level number
0.____3 :smallconfused:
1.____5
2.____5
3.____4
4.____6 :smallconfused:
5.____5
6.____4
7.____4
8.____3
is this correct or am I mistaken?
that seems rather few spells a day, for a level 18 character.. especially at the lower levels (3 level 0 only?:smallconfused:).
it's my first proper bard and I'm having a bit of a hard time

Sublime Chord spells and Bard spells exist in two separate pools - you can't stack them together. You have two spells known in your Bard set, and four spells known in your Sublime Chord set. You can't use spell slots from Bard levels to cast from your Sublime Chord set, and you can't use spell slots from Sublime Chord levels to cast from your Bard set.

except when the same spell is on both lists, if I understand it correctly.

either way, I've listed the total nr of spells I should be getting and am bearing in mind that they should be from different lists... but.. are the total numbers correct?
it occurs to me that if I am to treat the two daily lists separately, I should also get separate bonus spells? or is that wishful thinking?

The castings are wholly separate. Your sublime chord casting is treated as if you don't have any bard casting (beyond prerequisites and ability score used obviously). If you did not have bard levels, what then would be your answer? Mirroring that, your bard spells exist separate from the sublime chord spells. If you did not have sublime chord casting, what then is your answer? Example: yes, you only have 3 0 level spells per day, because you are only a bard 10 for bard casting.

Keep in mind: this isn't talking about your caster level, as that is explicitly the combination of both classes (as said in the spells description). The reason it is explicitly spelled out that way, is because it is not the norm, and it does not say spells per day are affected in any way.

I see..
that said, my numbers are correct?

Since they are two separate lists, you would get bonus spells per day on both lists. So yes, you will have a lot of 4th-level spells to cast.

Bard:
0-3+0
1-3+2
2-3+2
3-2+2
4-0+2

SC:
4-4+2
5-4+1
6-3+1
7-3+1
8-2+1

so.. 4th level spells I could cast every day are 2 bardic bonus spells, and 6 chord spells...a total of 8, not six... ok

edit: wait.. no.. that's not right.. those are spells known.. derp

Fixed a typo, put 4 for 6th when it should have been 3.

so I was actually right.. oh.. well.
( I still think it's funny how an 18th level full caster character only has 3 cantrips a day.. but ok)

side question...
would a paladin with the saint template benefit from a heroism spell cast upon him (morale bonus)?

What would make them not benefit from it?

This is why I feel like I'd drop a level of bard for something else, just so I could keep track of all of the spells on the same chart (just perhaps with a line between bard 3rd and sublime 4th). :smalltongue:

no idea.. in my defence, I should have been sleeping instead of posting the question...

Amesang.. yeah.. no.. there's a bunch of reasons (not related to build optimisation) why I am not going to add a second class or second PrC. the build is pretty much as is, and I've already introduced the character in yesterday's session.
what I can do is amend my spell list (as I've yet to actually use most of my spells), fine tune my character and his equipment.
