Mistaken Identity Week

Okay, so Christmas in July week is going to start soon, but I wanted to see if after Christmas week, maybe everyone would be willing to do this?

Mistaken Identity week is the swap-athon for everyone's avatars. Whoever wants to play posts their avatar into this thread using bold font for the avatar's name and owner, and then using [IMG ][/IMG ] tags after that to post their image. The week before this starts, we will be determining through dice who gets whose avatar. Then, once the week is over, everyone changes back. I think it'll be fun seeing who gets which person's avatar...

Also, during the week (with the group's approval), we will also be changing gender icons, locations, and sigs in order to further confuse the issue.

I'm open to seeing which dates would be good for this event, but I'd like to start planning it a while before so everyone has some time to trade avvies.

July 31st is currently the tentative starting date for this week. Also, you are allowed to choose which avatar you give the person, but it is preferable to give them whichever will be most recognized as your avatar.

We're still getting permission from various artists in order to swap avatars this way. Most people are just PMing their beloved artists, but we would prefer that if they are one of the very popular artists, that you let us just ask them for a blanket permission. We don't want to overload their PM box.

I think surprise is more fun. Actually, with the regulations now, you can influence what you get by posting quick, but still be surprised who get's yours, that's quite perfect.
But a surprise element should stay, makes funnier combinations. (Imagine Ms_E with the Magtok avatar, or a still clueless new member as ZRS)

We considered doing something like this back while the boards were down during the switch to the new forum... In the days of the old board, when you could change display names. However, our plan was ruined when we discovered the new forum only supported one name. :annoyed:

I would vote for 2. Everyone post who wants to participate, then choose an avvie to throw into the pool, with a dice-roller selection process. Everyone has an equal chance of getting an avvie this way.

Having said all this...I think that maybe it should go into SMBGs...it seems to be headed in that direction...:smallbiggrin:

Well, I was torn between the two. Here is where all the other "Weeks" have gone. There, it's a slightly better fit because it's a game. I figure a little structure in FB never hurt anyone, but if one of the mods feels the need to move it, I'm okay with that, but I think we'll lose a lot of people...though we may gain even more.

Points in favor of each:

2. Randomosity (like strategery, but random) is good when the goal of the week is to mess with people's minds a bit.

3. I, for one, welcome the new One Board Avatar.

I know the Crowd in the Playground got locked the first time because people didn't originally gain permission, and in case one of the artists who doesn't know about this sees one of their avatars on someone else, we want to spare either the artist or user the embarassment of accidentally making this an issue.

Yeah, I had thought about this. After we get everyone's avatars together in the pool, I'm gonna have everyone check with the artists to make sure it's okay.

However, now that it's been brought up, may as well set you guys to work on it. PM the owner of your avatar and get their permission to loan the avatar to someone else. I imagine they'll want something in the sigs of the person borrowing the sig so that they still get credit. Something like "(Name of Artist) avatar on loan from (Name of loaner)" Who knows though, just check with your artist. (Poor artists...50 PMs in the same day...heheh...I feel really sorry for Ceika)

The dice roller will pick a random avatar for each person, and then I'll PM the results out (in order to keep people guessing and have it be a surprise even for people in this thread) to the person who I rolled for.

So if I rolled for myself, I'd see how many avatars were left in the pool, roll the corresponding type of dice, and then find out which avatar that number corresponded to. Then, I'd PM myself, telling me which person's avvie, sig, and details they need to grab at.

Based on all the posts I've seen from you (and a few I just brought up), you seem to mostly post negative comments throughout the entire playground. You never seem to agree with anyone, and you often post with a certain air of intellectual superiority as if you are above those whom you are talking to. Bottom line is, as you are not taking part in this event (which is merely the latest in a string of similar events), it doesn't really matter what you think or say about it, does it? All you have done is slightly dampen the normally cheerful mood of these boards. Please try to be pleasant in the future, rather than simply posting that you think something is stupid when your comment was not needed. If it is stupid or boring, I am sure the popularity it was met with at the beginning will quickly subside.

No offense taken for your commentary though, I know I can be taken to be a little negative. That's not my intention but I know it comes out like that.

In relation to this event, I honestly think it's not a very good idea, which is the same I think of any forum-wide campaign that adds to the identity confusion between users, past and present.

Option two: PM the person, and ask for some help fixing it.

Option three: PM Rawhide or WampaX or whoever and beg to be allowed to use a larger sig for this event.
