Mariners of the Red Tornado:
The ship you now find ourselves upon, set sail from the Imperial city of Port Carmen to seek the Sceptre of the Scorpian, several months ago {according to this plane's timeline}.

Young, red headed, Captain Allie Alandra, a young woman, is majority owner of this ship. It was a gift from her mother. Adventuresome Captain Allie met a goblin businessman who had a map that led the way to a lost artifact. The goblin had found it in an orc auction yard. All this can be found in the ship's log.

The ship is the 'Red Tornado'.
Named after the ship's artist Zhako's swirled red on the decks, sides, and sails. The colors are the trademark of this ocean-going sailing ship. The base color of this sea-cruiser has been painted bright white. The artistic white and red swirls are continually repainted and repaired by Zhako.

There are four small officer rooms leading toward Captain Allie's rear room with a view in the rear cabin on the main deck. {Which is newly repaired after a demon-possesed boy destroyed it. }

In the officer's hall the first on the left is a converted bedroom, with a drained tank from that of an old crewman, a merman. A special access port is locked, and one is able to slide one from the tank to sea or deck through a special passage. This room belongs to Ramose and Sersita, which they have done a great job of converting to earth-bound humanoid's needs.

Across the hall is ship's Counsellor Farlgort' private quarters. Wrick is in the next door in to the left, right next to the Captain's Fancy Door. Gwen and Jondalar share the room across from Wrick. Allie has allowed Gwen and Jondalar to create a small shrine to Ehlonna there as well.

The rest of you PCs are 'specialists' and receive a slightly larger quarters below the rear cabin. There is just enough room to hide-out, sleep, or lock your stuff up in here. There is also a small door into the tiny bunkroom that you can lock.
The lower regions of the ship (Rear-Hold) are arranged so that 'specialists' are seperated from the crew's main bunkroom and into small sleeping chambers, enough for a lock-box and a small padded bunk to stretch out on. Your things should be safe here.
{Xu, Baka, Iyapo, and Zhako-NPC are among those who stay here.}
Rikaan is the only PC who sleeps in the main quarters. He IS 6'11! He'd be more comfortable in the bigger crew area.

The Captain's 'condition' is closely monitored by the ship's priestess, Gwen.
Allie's cousin, Lady Merie stayed back in Tawonga.

The ever-changing crew of Red Tornado has seen many faces; experiencing heavy casualties, and many trials and tribulations. The ship was even gated to the Upper Planes for a period. It is now on its own planet in its own time, to continue this quest to beat the dark forces to the hidden Sceptre of the Scorpian.

Our heroes now leave a colorful riverside city of Tawonga in Antaria with a fresh batch of volunteer Antarian sailors. They have been chosen from the many who surged to aid the stricken ship with the noble cause. The Antarians are dark-skinned men, many with thick, long, colorfully braided dreadlocks. The leader of these men was Tawonga's king, Chigani. He will travel with you as the ship personal guide in Antaria. Rikaan, Iyapo, and Baka are among the Antarian men, and hold a special place with Chigani.

Many of you have lost those dear to you on this ship, and few of the original crew even lives. Chigani and his men will say a few brief good-byes to friends and family, and then set forth to lead the Red Tornado to the lost temple. You will all have to head Northwest up the Antarian coast to the mouth of another great River, and then sail from the harbor there. This would be the high king's city, and from there the rest of the journey would have to be on foot, for the jungle beyond was too thick for any land mounts to be of use more than pack animals... and pack animals are good eating.

Chigani would guess that the journey would be about a week. He adds, "All of us should be wary, for great danger follows your ship."

1st Officer Jondalar De Sliva.
Stormlord of Elhonna.

Jondalar will turn his body so he can feel the breeze that will fill the sails. He will look over many of the new sailors he must get to know ike the back of his hand if he is to be able to command them in a time of need. "Alright you dogs lets get work, trim the sail and let fly the colors. ONCE MORE for THE TORNADO.." He will place his foot up near rail and lean on his knee remembering his last prayers with Gwen to Elhonna. Safe passage, good winds and her etrernal love and guidence. Only with her help have we made it this far. ]"I said trim and get someone to swab this deck. Mister Fulbert, the deck is yours, I must consult with captain on getting a new crew chief and see if Mister Wrick is about."

farlgort

farlgort looks over the new crew and the old. with the events that transpired, he is not looking foreward to what he is about to do. but there has been enough of that tactic from the other side. raising a hand into the air he once more taps that hidden power deep within himself. slaming his palm into the deck he exclaims, "sanctify and consecrate". as he colapses onto the deck with blood flowing freely from his mouth nose and ears he blinks twice. "you know something, i really must stop doing things like this until im much more powerful." with that said he passes out.

1st Officer Jondalar De Sliva.
Stormlord of Elhonna.

Jondalar will stride over to the fallen consular and kneel down.

"Cleric... Someone run for healing now. We have three and any one of them will do."

He will clear Falgort's breathing passages and bundle his cloak under Falgort's head.

"Mister Wrick" Sunderfoot

. . . is definitely about. Plotting out a course, consulting the star charts, and taking note of the wind at regular intervals, the halfling is definitely on top of things.

Hioline

An worn grey robe, dull and amorphous with age, sits lightly on a slight figure that stands at the starboard of the deck. Her lost grey eyes gaze morbidly into the waves, thoughts, mostly inscrutable, ticking away behind these windows. This is Hioline, engaged in the activity that takes up most of her day- standing idly, and looking out to sea. Although just how idle that elven mind beneath the hood is, well, that's anyone's guess.

At first she does not turn in response to the commotion. This ship- always in a state of flux- and every flux has a source- and that source- it's mission. Our mission- so straight forwards, yet so difficult. This is mundane. Non the less, her curiosity gets the better of her, and at last she turns around, arms crossed.

Farlgort, Farlgort, one day you'll bite off more than you can chew for the last time. Please stop biting. She thinks as she approaches and stands behind Jondaler. "I should hope that this stunt shan't carry for him the cost of the last one." What did he do this time?

Ramose

A young man wearing white priest robes strides over from the other end of the ship. His head is cleanly shaven, and his skin is richly tanned. "So, I hear someone needs help over here? Who... Oh." Just then, he notices Farlgort lying on the deck of the ship. Looking about, Ramose seems to be a bit worried as he asks, "What happened to Farlgort? I hope he didn't contract that accursed disease that's been going around." The young sun priest quickly looks Farlgort over, in an apparent attempt to figure out what is wrong with him. He then begins a short prayer while he lays a hand on Farlgort's forehead.

{OOC: Ramose burns off a Cure Minor Wounds. Heal Check 12, to make a quick diagnosis...unless someone tells him what happened.}

Jondalar

The 1st Oficer will look at the priest and report the folowing events.

"I believe that he slammed his palm into the deck, then he exclaimed, "sanctify and consecrate". upon which he colapsesed onto the deck with blood flowing freely from his mouth nose and earsl. Divine magic ?"

Hioline

Quite possibly it is divine, though I have a theory of my own to test on this account. Hey may well be a priest and he may well be favoured by the gods, yet I think his outburst is of another source- pertaining to his less weave related talents... Not waiting, she shrugs her shoulders and retreats to the captain's chamber.

And for the sake of our mission, for the sake of our mission I shall forgo this flux- I shall join the damned and seek the key to their damnation- and then we shall see that the key is one and the same as that to the door leading to our mission's end- would that I but find it! She thinks as she finishes rooting through her scrolls and tying them to her bundle. She seeks out Chigani.

"I would like to request, guardian, to go to your city and tend to our sick- not so much because I have the delusion of being able to help ease their suffering, but because as with everything, the condition is likely related in one way or another to our quest, and by attempting to unravel it, we will come closer to the goal- that and I would likely not be affected by it."

OOC- I was hoping more would post, but here goes...

OOC2: Got Ramose's heal check.

Farlgort is brought to his quarters.

Captain Allie will proudly step out onto the deck, just a hint of a paunch can be seen beneath her black leather jacket, showing that she is indeed coming along in the preganacy. She looks proudly over her ship, as men hop to Jondalar's orders. Jondalar will find the Antarian sailors are very skilled, and excellent workers. This is the most men the ship has seen in a long time, and many breaks are doled out to the heavily worked crew.

Young Ragles will find that his Olmeric the cook will need his labor full time now with such a large crew.

Wrick, the halfling, is also about often, and given great respect too, as his rank on the ship improves.

Ramose and Gwen, the most powerful priests on the ship are given a wide berth and everyone listens to what ever they say. The Antarians are very respectful of those who are divine. It is mentioned, that there are few priests in Antaria. Though near the lead Antarian King several pharonic temples have risen, many to Osiris.

Ramose can easily heal up Farlgort, but he'll need some rest for tampering with powers his mind is not quite ready for.:smallwink:

When Chigani and Allie hear of Hioline's request, they are both dismayed, but understand. {OOC- Leush has to take a long break.} Allie will be greatly saddened, and Chigani will use a special device he has to contact a seer. A seer will come, and once he understands Hioline's knack for divination, will gladly teleport her back to where she can help seek answers for the psionically ill.

Only a few hours will have passed since you left Tawonga, and Hioline has stayed behind. Allie says to her before she leaves, "You are always welcome aboard my ship. I will miss you."
With that an old seer that you recognize from the Cave of the Seers will teleport her away.
{OOC- I look forward to your return... I'll have to work that out when we get there.:smallcool: }

Note: Much of the ship's platinum was spent and given to families of the new crew men. Even they know they might never come back. Don't worry there is still plenty of platinum left.

Gwen

Gwen comes up from below decks, in one of her conversations (examinations) of a member of the old crew.

She sees the blood from Falgort and then looks around at the calm in shock. "What happened? Are we under attack? I didn't hear the alarm signal..."

She will stand by as Ramose helps Falgort and will offer to help get him to his cabin.

She says goodbye to Hioline with genuine sadness. "We will miss your guidance.

"Well, with any luck, I'll have figured out some new answers for our arcane philosophies. Maybe some new questions, too."

Xu

Xu attempts to keep herself busy and quickly finds that she is not needed. The Antarian sailors more than have things in hand. Still, she tries to help, asking questions at nearly every turn. There was little she could do for Falgort, and nothing she could do that Ramose wouldn't be better at, so she watched curiously.

To Hioline she simply gives a farewell wave. There was more Xu wanted to say to the departing elf, but if she opened her mouth she would only request to go along.

To miss... To long for... To wish to be in the presence of... By the gods I love them all, but what is it, to be apart when by whatever path you walk, you would end up at the same carnival... It matters- strangely enough, it actually matters.

She bows slightly before disappearing. "Ehlonna guides you Gwen, you need not miss me..." She turns to Wrick. "And an answer will sound as a a such question: 'Why did I ask?'"" She looks out to the sea again and waves absently. Farewell friends."

The Red Tornado sails onward.
With Hioline gone, Allie is visibly bothered, but finds herself getting closer to Jondalar. His encouraging and stern commands inspire her to get right in there to join him. She hadn't done that in a while.

A few days will pass after leaving the city of Tawonga, along the way you will continue to see different colorful cities of the Antarians, and many of the people will come to watch you pass on the beach. More than one pyramid-like temples are seen along the way, with more being spotted as you near the mouth of the river which is where Chigani is leading you to.

Ramose

Answering Jondalar's question, Ramose says, "That sounds like divine magic, alright. It could even be sanctified magic; many sanctified spells extract a heavy toll on the body and mind. Or, it was something else entirely, something that I likely know nothing about." Ramose graciously accepts Gwen and Xu's help with getting Farlgort down to his cabin. "Well, I suppose all we can do is take care of him until he comes around. At least it doesn't look like he caught that dreaded disease."

Before the elven diviner leaves the ship, Ramose shares a few words with her as well. "Farewell, Hioline. If there is a connection between that disease and our quest, you'll certainly be the one to find it. I just hope you're right in thinking that it won't affect you as well. Take care of yourself."

Deck of the Red Tornado:
Chigani smiles big at Gwen, "Well, surely we'll all be welcomed as heros by my great lord... but in the temple only a few can speak of. They say it is life returned. Undead. But, evil, and corrupted with foul, dark magic that it evolves through time, and twists evilly. Our seers have sealed it.... the temple. So beware of breaking any of them. I will show you what they are." By the end, he seems a little chilled as he talks of the lore of this pyramid that holds this artifact.

Jondalar will return to work while watching the clerics withdraw. He overhears Chigani's reference to the temple and remembers purifying Elhonna's Temple in Kriggala.

OOC- I updated the 1st post of Mariners to account for recent updates. I will also now welcome Mornir, Nomad5, and Fredricus as 3 of the Antarian 'assistants' of Chigani.}

The New Crew:
It should be mentioned about the vast differences in the many cultures that make up the continent called Antaria. They are roughly united under one king, with many chieftain-kings who pay homage to a great old one. Needless to say the personalities of the Antarian sailors and specialists are quite different. 3 have drawn your attention, especially Rikaan{-Mornir}, Iyapo{-Fredricus}, and Baka{-Nomad5}.

All of those who went to the seers had seen the tall, lanky Rikaan. At 6'11 he was by far the tallest of anyone on the ship, and was constantly having to duck below the rigging once he stepped aboard. He may have been tall, but he was quite nimble, and has surprised many sailors with his sure-footedness, already. He is painted with reddish body paint, that looks very war-like, Farlgort thinks.

Iyapo was the youngest of all the Antarians, and only a year older than 15 y-o Ragles. This one was given a special place among the Antarains, he has white hair and eyes, and it is said he is a local hero in his coastal village in the lands around Tawonga. He is one of Chigani's special guests. There is an air of mystery around him... even from the other Antarians.

Baka is also quite interesting. His long hair are large dreadlocks and decorated with many animal signs, including feathers, leather ties and teeth. Chigani will be in discussion with him a lot, once time for jungle travel is at hand.

Chigani, the chief will be asked to stay with Allie, in her quite spacious captain's cabin. It was the least she could do for him.

{Welcome new players, please read all of Mariners. It will help you in figuring out the other Mariners. Please describe yourself if my description was lacking. I will be moving us along the coast, so don't feel you have to force role-play. You'll be getting to know the PCs very soon... on a possible trek through the jungle....:smallwink: :smallamused: :smallcool: }

Iyapo

Iyapo is a little boy not more than 16. he has short white hair and white eyes, a contrast to his dark skin. He wears a robe covering him up to his neck and wears finely made gloves. He recently recieved the spear he carries around from Chigani.

He usually travels close to Chigani, keeping an eye out for danger. Now when Chigani has retired to the captains cabin he wanders the ship, propably trying to get to know it. He avoids people as they tend to avoid him.

Wrick

Either because of his newfound seniority aboard the Tornado, because he genuinely enjoys his small stature, or both, Wrick is a trifle smug a bit at Rikaan's introduction to the ship. A snicker occasionally escapes him as low rigging and door frames convince him that the world was built for short folk.

Nomad5
2007-07-30, 07:58 PM
Baka

Baka is a fairly dark skinned and well sized Antarian standing at about 6 ft. tall. Tribal marks can be seen on his face, chest and arms as well at many animal charms attached to his dark hair.

He is eager about his arrival on a sailing vessel and the thankful for the opportunity that he has been blessed with. His first instincts come from his warrior training as a young boy when he notices that defending such a ship will be difficult with his longspear in the midst of such entanglements and close quarters. However, any anxiety is soon relieved as he finds some common tasks and routines to help the crew with and feels the salted wind in his lungs and occasional showers on skin.

As the new crew gets used to each other and Baka watches them respond to Jondalar, he gains a respect for the efficiency that is necessary to run the operation. At first the motion of the ship is disturbing, but as the sway becomes more familiar, Baka finds that he is capable of climbing the rigging quite adeptly not only giving him a chance to help, but also giving him amazing views to relish.

As routine falls in, Baka starts to think about the tasks that Chigrani has discussed to be ready at their next port. Taking a crew this size through a jungle area will not be easy.

Mornir

Rikaan

Rikaan is tall and limber, his face is a deep black and his hair cut short in a style for practicality in close-combat. His frame is lithe and swift in its movements despite its large size. He sleeps for only the darkest hours of the night, but afterwards he stands on deck watching from the riggings. He seems fine with the lurching of the boat his body easily balanced. He can sometimes be seen jumping to and fro from the different ropes adapting to them quickly and easily. He seems bewildered by all the people and the attention sometimes given to his height -he was only eleventh tallest out of his whole tribe.

Rikaan sees the child laugh at him. Rikaan no like it, but children be children 'til they tall enough -strong enough- to do first hunt. He decide next time child laugh Rikaan will laugh too, he must be friendly to children -make people happy and like him.

Xu

Xu stood on the deck watching the new crew, trying to learn what to do and what was natural aboard a ship, and feeling very useless. She decided that she was most definitely a creature of the land and had no business aboard sailing vessel. It was too late to change her mind now.

A strong breeze blew and a few stray blonde hairs drifted across her young-looking angular face. The rest stayed in their well-trained places, cascading over her shoulders. Her violet eyes scanned the Antarians slowly. It was rare that she found a group of humans that she felt comfortable around. It was usually hard even to tolerate their presence, but Xu felt at ease with these.

The youngest caught her eye as he skirted the edge of the ship and avoided everyone. She watched him out of the corner of her eye for a while. Her natural curiosity took over and she made her way over to him, a difficult task between the motions of the ship and his natural talent at avoidance, but she finally walked up beside him, "Greetings. My name is Xu." She bowed slightly to the boy with white hair and then waited for him to respond.

There will be 3 or 4 days of routine sailing to the King's City. There is a constant watch now that there is a full compliment of sailors, so no-one is being overworked.

Many different types of Antarians come to view the red and white ship as it passed their beaches. Captain Allie was determined though, and made no more stops. To her the stopping here in Antaria was only good if it was short. The crew still raced against forces of evil, but an edge in the coming combat was worth this risk.

She turned back to Iyapo, "I was wondering if the hair and the eyes are a family trait, or if you are unique." Xu paused, knowing how difficult it was for herself to speak of such things. "If you do not wish to speak of it, I can find a different subject."

Gwen

As the ship resumes a pattern, she will be able to relax a bit.

She tries to get out on the deck before the sun rises so that she can meditate in the growing light. And she will perform regular services for those faithful to Ehlonna.

Most of the time she will keep a close eye on Allie, but not interfere as Allie goes about the business of being the captain. But if Allie pushes herself too much, Gwen will find a quiet and private time to remind Allie to slow down and let her body due what is needed for the baby.

Gwen will seek to get to know all of the crew members a bit trying to comit something small about each of them to memory. Sometimes, it is helpful to get a person's mind off what needs to be done for healing. Having them re-tell a funny story, or talk about a hobby can distract them enough so that she can work.

Most of her nights will be spent in the cabin with Jondalar, with the door shut. They will welcome any who come to them and knock on the door, but Gwen does not come up on deck much after dark unless it is to pray.

The Aismar Sorcerer with eyes that pierce the sea mist and seem to dance with and inner light. His monish brown robe and silken cloak bespeak of a man at harmony with his outsider and human heritage. He walks the ship with easy grip on his spear, occasionally allowing Ayla his celestial hawk to land on a hastily donned thick leather glove. He will at passers by and crew alike as he seeks to maintain harmony on board with a kind or harsh word as needed.

Chigani should have informed most of the people on the mission: That first they were involved in obtaining an artifact, that would eventually aid in battling the prophesied guardians of the Sceptre of the Scorpian. The sceptre is a legend in many cultures, but this crew has a map. The sceptre is said to be able to save the earth.

The Antarian people {some of them} know that there was a lost sword from Captain Allie's lands. It was dropped by a knight crusading against evil within the temple, and it there lies now in the temple, which seals in its own great evil. Likely undead. This is where Chigani leads the ship, only some will go, Chigani won't allow all his men. And Captain Allie has to stay with her ship....

Discussion on who goes can happen as the ship travels.

There will be a mystery as to what Chigani and Allie are doing late at night for the lamps burn long in the Captain's quarters as he becomes her special guest during the voyage along the coast of Antaria.

He has led me through these jungles often in search of ruins that hold the unnatural and undead so that they may be held back from tainting his creation. They have claimed the life of some friends and gravely injured my dearest brother in arms." Baka reflects for a moment as he gazes out into the sea.

"I am also a Horizon Walker of the jungle, which is why I desired to join this mission. I saw opportunity to experience many other places in this world, such as this brief encounter with the ocean spirits now." Baka smiles widely, which may be the first time you have seen him do so. "If you have more information on the crew that will be joining us in the jungle, I am glad to listen. As far as spearman, Baka is probably the best among the Antarian crew. However, Chigani carries a golden spear upon his back, and he is quite a fighter.

With the more powerful members of the Antarian crew {Rikaan, Baka, and Rikaan} beginning to warm-up to Jondalar and others on the Red Tornado, the rest of them open up as well.
By the time the High King's City is sighted, the old crewmen are playing all their drinking games with the Antarians. Jondalar is quick to insure this happens appropriately, by keeping it to off-hours, and below decks.
No rule against this on Allie's ship, as long as they function as a team in the morning, or whatever shift is drawn for the day. So far not one has been thrown into the 'cage'.

When the Red Torndao pulls into the great stone port of the Antarian High King, it is decorated in the full regalia of the High King with dark purple and silver streaming everywhere. Citizens from all over Antaria throng the port to glimpse these brave adventurers. Many gold armored men are in attendence keeping order of the whole chaotic affair. The gated port could easily hold ten thousand ships of the Class-A Cruiser variety, that the Red Tornado official was. Half of gated port was full of large barges all done up like a fancy market.

The coastal jungle here was city and forest with many pyramids and a distant few mountains as the backdrop for the whole scene. The colorful city was hard to see almost, because of the masses of people. Perhaps 100,000 people were filling this area up. The excitement of the approaching city and setting sun, caused the crowd to erupt in a thunderous cheer when the ship drew near.

Chigani says to all and his men, laughing almost in disbelief, "It is as the seers spoke. When Ra has drawn low in the horizon, angels riding Ra's red rays shall purge the land of the dark lord." He looks at the reddish sky out to sea and the way its light played off the waves and red-white swirls of the ship. "It is beautiful."

The ship is guided to the port entrance by men with golden flags standing on various canoes out at sea. They will wave and direct the Red Tornado through the main port. Many of the young Antarians have never seen their High King's city before, and stand amazed as much as the Imperial crewmen at the huge spectacle and display.

Chigani pats Allie with firm friendly blow on her shoulder, "My King."

He points to a golden mini-pyramid on a large barge in the middle of the carnival of activity. On top of this pyramid is a throne with a very important looking man in gold armor, with long white dreadlocks and beard. To his right and left were 20 women presumably queens or princess of varying ages. And even ethnicities, 2 look like light-skinned Imperials

You will have to dock the boat to reach this King, but already gold armored soldiers were lining up a pathway through the Market on the Barge. The King bows his head distantly, when he sees the crewmen on the Red Tornado's deck.

{BlueWizard World Note: Allie's home empire, is known as the Empire, it takes on many names depending who is ruling, so non-natives call it the the Empire, simply.}.

"I will be ready momentarily." Baka returns to the cabin to collect his equipment and spend a few solitary moments in prayer. Upon returning to the deck he is wearing his suit of dark leather armor. It is not noteworthy compared to the regalia seen on shore, but it compliments his movements. Slung across his back is a strong compound bow that is crafted as if two snakes were wound about it from the middle. With Ramose walking the deck like a warrior-god, a true full-fledged priest, he will silence many Antarians. Priests are highly regarded in the Empire and Antaria.

Other white-robed men in the masses will reveal themselves from beyond the wall of soldiers to Ramose as he is seen on the landing dock. Showing that Ra is present in Antaria.

No-one is allowed near any of you as you approach the High King. It is so exciting now, that many people are screaming out for Ramose to bless their babies, and even calling him Ra.

Chigani chuckles, as he looks at the tanned Imperial man walking along with the group."I will call Ra's chosen one, Asita"

Chigani and Allie will lead the entourage down the long line of golden-armored men. This area of the dock has been converted to a great walkway, and leads directly to the High King's mini-pyramid on the barge-buildings.

The King's wives or female attendants are at his side as he comes down, a few even keeping his long white dreads in a line behind him.

A smoking hookah rests next to his throne seat, an older Queen with pale white skin, is cleaning the bowl out, and replacing green herbs within it.

Chigani speaks in another language, which is translated to you immediately by a pretty dark skinned princess on a lower pyramid step. "I am honored to serve my King, and this cause. I had to turn many away. Not one day passed, and all the good men of Antaria seemed to have appeared. I have you to thank for more than a few."

Zrkra only grins through his dreaded white beard as he scans the others. He is impressed by Ayla's entrance, admiring her descent. He looks impressively at the Aasimar, Jondalar, to the white-haired teen, Iyapo, then to Chigani, and finally at all three. He speaks in Imperial common again, "You come with good omens. I have heard of those from the heavens, and have seen them before. I am honored to meet you. The gods you serve will be welcomed here. I can see all of you are of our cause."

Zrkra looks Baka up and down, he nods in fierce admiration, "Ah... the son of Jengali. You are not one of mine, I sent... but your name has come to my ear. If I weren't a hindrance in dungeons now I'd go.... but...ahhh, yes. I see good things coming to you Baka. After this journey. Not before mind you. Not before." He sighes heavily, mostly depressed he can't go. "All of you will be guest of mine for dinner. Unless you are in a hurry. Even your sailors are welcome to a feast. I have been told under a dozen survived since you left port with your map in Port Carmen."

Allie finally answers as if she is embaressed about the losses, "Not exactly true, sir." This is all she says for a moment, as it looks like she gasped all her breath out at once. "I... I believe, a few got off. I put us around 16, counting myself. The merman's still alive. Anyway, an honor! My mom had lots of good things to say about you..." She looks at him with a little more of her old time confidence, and a cocked eye of mischievousness.

This nearly throws the old man off, "Your mother?"

"Lady Alandra..."

"Ah, yes! Lady Alandra. I asked her to be my 8th wife, but she wanted something else..."

At the rear, Xu had plenty of time to wait while the Antarians introduced themselves. She concidered the names she could go by, and whether she actually wanted to bow before this king. From the brief period in his presence she gathered the impression that he was decent, as kings went, and it had become a habit to greet with a bow despite it being a custom she detested. Her capricious nature left her flip-flopping on the decision.

Xu's eyes scanned the group before her. She wondered if she had even been noticed. {OOOC- Italics will be Antarian-common, only the Antarian PCs speak both common tongues. Each common tongue has variants, and Antarian and Imperial common languages are completely different.}

The high King's eyes rest upon the almost hidden Xu, and smirks. "I can see into what you are. Do not worry, you are safe in my lands. An elven city lays hidden in this jungle. Someday you should visit it. I hear there are few left in our world." He seems very kind when talking to Xu.

To Wrick:
"I know a small community of halflings. They live in sewers to the North. They ride grand golden retrievers. Very brave, they could use one with magic on their side. My seers have informed me that you have great potential young Master Sunderfoot."

To Jondalar:
"Ehlonna is a beautiful goddess. You may see the sign of the unicorn, there you may find shelter of her followers. I am sure they will approve of you." He will be very polite to Jondalar and Gwen, visibly respectful. As much so as Ramose and the white-haired Iyapo. Chigani and Allie are almost secondary as Zrkra freely talks to all. Baka

Listening to some of the exchanges about the Temple of Death, Baka begins to grow concerned for these new friends. There are strong magics at work here. What else must we know about them to succeed, or merely survive? "King Zrkra, you have either entered the Temple of Death yourself or know those who have survived this task before. The seals are broken allowing us to enter, but when the time comes for us to leave, can we leave by the same means or is there another exit that we must use? And do you know where the artifact may lie within the Temple?"

Retrofit...

Ramose had been the center of attention of large crowds before, but not one nearly as huge as the mass of people screaming for him to bless their babies as the party approaches the High King. Thoughts of being stampeded if the guards were to fail to keep the crowd at bay crosses the young priest's mind, but he continues to smile and graciously receive the attention, stopping for a moment to give special acknowledgement to the white-robed men before moving on. After a few minutes, he begins walking closer to Jondalar, wondering if the aasimar's striking appearance will take at least a bit of attention away from himself. Then he says quietly, and in jest, "Say, Jondalar, I may need a shot of Bull's Strength myself, if just to keep from being carried off if too many people get past the guards..."

{More retrofitting...}

Well, he took me seriously... That's alright, I was being half serious, so...

"Many thanks, Jondalar." Ramose continues to move along next to Gwen and Jondalar. And indeed, once the white-robed priest takes his beloved Serasita's hand once again, the aasimar does have almost all of the divine might of the ship moving with him.

Ramose's eyes register when the High King mentions the Northern Kingdom. It had seemed to be so long since leaving his new home there. When it comes time to make his own introduction, the young priest says, "Greetings, King Zrkra. I am Ramose, servant of RA, son of Barakashai and Tahirasiti. Formerly from Rohne in the Duchy of Movan, we've recently moved to the Northern Kingdom, in a small town by the name of Vlather."

Planes and forreign lands. Iyapo is totally an outsider of this, so much new for the little boy. Atleast these strangers are strange or stranger than him here. Which maybe brings him long sought peace, but he will still remain the strange boy.

The kings mentioning of him maybe being a northerner gave him some hope that he isn't alone. And the fact that king was honoured by iyapo's presence really made his head spin. So much new things and the newfound respect. Hope it doesn't grow to that in his village.

She will take an opportunity to quietly, but playfully jib at him saying, "Ramose, if I didn't know better, I say this was a welcome home party for you!"

Gwen will smile at the king as she makes her introductions where appropriate.

"Greetings, Your Majesty. I am Gwen, Priestess of Elhonna, most recently from the upper planes. The Lady wishes to strengthen this cause and is most interested in seeing the influence of the twisted squid be overcome and the purity and grace of the natural balance restored. It is my joy to assist in this matter, tempered only with sorrow for those lost to this cause."

After the official words, she will listen and watch and learn. She is quiet, but not reserved.

Zrkra answers Baka first, "With the outer seals destroyed, you may enter and leave at any time. It is the evil inside that is kept in check by the seals. And as I've hinted at, the forest looks out for its own. The temple is guarded by forces of good, who prevent evil from trying to enter and tamper with the seals. Don't worry about the fairy folk, they are with us on this."

As Ramose looks about he will notice that Jondalar IS drawing a lot of attention, however with so many guards here attention is on Chigani, Allie, Iyapo, and the other priests {who display their clerical holy symbol openly} as well. 5 thousand soldiers you can see.

Amid all this your group will be in the center of it all. A circle of gold armor shining brightly in the setting sunlight. It will illuminate you all. And you can easily move amongst your group to speak to any of the others.

Old Zrkra misses the look Xu briefly gives him, and naively pats her on the shoulder. An attempt to cheer her up. He also mutters something about owning maps to the elven cities. Though he said this only loud enough for those of you closest to him... and of course Xu and others with excellent hearing can sort of comprehend.

As Ramose takes Serasita's hand, her hood was still up. This was tradition for elven ladies not in their homeland, mostly for safety purposes. She gives Ramose's hand a squeeze and encourages him as he steps to High King Zrkra.
"Ah Movan! I have great many friends from Movan. The Barakashai family name I know. It must be your great-grandfather I met. A great man, and an amazing temple builder. He designed a shrine of RA in my palace. You should visit it sometime. I knew your father when he was a boy. I hear he is much more promising than your kind grandfather. Though your father has only been doing it for 40 years. Usually at 50, is when the good stuff starts to happen. Great art. It runs in your family. I am not surprised one such as you, eventually used his talents for the ultimate good. The Northern Nations would be much safer for your family than the Empire. There is a lot of bad blood going around right now. Your priesthood is revered here. The palace temple is open to all religious leaders aboard your ship Captain Allie."

When all are ready, and even Chigani cannot deny this, Zrkra will have his mini-pyramid paraded through the city and off the barge market. The pyramid is drawn by two giant bulls which you all now see behind it. The column of golden armored men opens to form a path through the docks and into the forest and gardened city.

It's stone buildings are made of coral and reef, and of such color that one can only be amazed. Reds, blues, greens. Some straight, cut, solid blocks, other formations hard billowing flowers. Strange animals can be seen all about including odd leopards with black and white fur, bright blue iguanas, and even a purple gorilla. They are mostly pets, but so are many wild and tame birds too. Colorful feathers seem to adorn everything. Several of Zrkra's brides wear only feather plumes.

Farlgort will see a feather shop, and can see a wide variety of bird feathers here. You will see all sorts of odd shops. Each to his own, in a carefully ordered guild system, Antaria is arranged so one doesn't 'step on the toes of others'.

Through this forested city several tall stone buildings are seen including several great temples, and a few libraries. The large building you all now approached was rounded simply in a metal fence, about a meter high. It was flowered with many roses and sharp pointy thorns, but nothing in the way of great buttressed walls.

The Palace beyond as well as it surrounding forest was sheer magic. The building had a few spires that were crystal as the elves, and so spindly that they seem impossible. It rose high into the air, but even above, because of the walled gardens of Zrka, the whole of it appeared to be a mountain jungle, complete with wildlife and waterfalls!
A great lake blocked the entrance and a small, golden dock area acted as passage to the hanging-gardened palace. Several fine golden ships glittered in the sun, which quickly set as the palace neared. The finest details of the palace will have to wait until morning, for in the dim light of the evening the beauty was hard to appreciate. Mist passes over you cooling you all, as you near a waterfall by the gate's entrance.

It was not hot, but was a steady warm, even now. Antaria is just very warm all the time, with some monsoon type weather in the north of it, and coastal showers to the south.

The bulls will stop at the lake, and the pyramid will actually transform to a boat. The rest of you will be expected to take a small sailing boat, manned by his golden garbed soldiers. He will talk as he sails alongside you across the lake to his gardened palace. "It is my place to think. Away from the noises... though I must say, its been a long time since I could drum up this many Antarians in my fine city. You are all welcome here. Take as long as you like. Where you go from here is very dark and dangerous. There is a reason I don't allow my people to go... under normal circumstances. It drives men mad! Almost every single one of them. Not all tough, and not even necessarily all at one time... but over a course of many years. I am an old man, and have seen a lot."

edit:
Zrkra will speak to Gwen: "Ehlonna is a beautiful thing. I am saddened by the losses my world has caused her followers. She is welcome in this forest. You will find a home of elves, fairies, and maybe even unicorns if you look carefully enough. We still appreciate our magic woodland friends. There is a strong following of her people here. Do not be surprised if they reveal themselves to you."

Baka

With much to think about from the introductions and initial meeting, Baka falls in line to where he is directed with the entourage remaining silent and somewhat stoic. As the assembly moves through the city he starts to notice the differences between this city and others he has seen. There is so much natural beauty here. He is soon lost in the formations and colors. The feathering especially draws his attention, and he engages many of the guards, wives, or consorts (if it is appropriate) to inquire about the birds and areas where they came from. This is mostly idle conversation though he is interested.

As everyone approaches the lake, Baka is surprised by the transformation of the king's litter. I did not know such things could exist. As he lifts his eyes from the lake to notice the palace, he realizes how inept his thoughts were. He is awestruck by this palace and tries to regain his composure, but remains quite stunned for most of the boat ride. To regain his concentration, Baka is seen to kneel on the boat and study the waters as they glide across them.

The gilded boats take you across the lake to a palace port, more golden guards are here, and salute your large party when you arrive. They attend the King's ladies, and then usher you into the lower gates of the palace which were built straight into the hillside.

Waterfalls crash all around you here, and you will walk over a thin raised stone bridge to the main landing of the palace. Outside here, is a great feast already prepared in your honor with about 500 staff members around to make sure each of you never has any want.

The tall garden walls rise high above you, and the distant roar of the waterfalls, is actually kind of relaxing, and doesn't deafen you all once you are in this stone-courtyard clearing. The ground is finely carved stone, with huge pictures of warriors battling great forest creatures.

The walls are painted and carved similarly to the ground. though the ground incorporated colored glass and tiles into the artwork there. The walls were more of a glazed paint.

Xu shouldn't have gone... She hadn't wanted to, and with every step the tension inside got worse. Visiting Nerise had been difficult, but it was much less formal and she had had friends there to draw strength from. This place made her feel small and vulnerable, and there was nobody there for her to lean on.

Her muscles tensed as the group entered the palace, and then froze at the sight of the feast. She wasn't looking at the table, but at the rows of servants all apparelled in the same garb, waiting to serve. For all she knew they wanted to be there, and were even honored, especially given the reactions of the throngs outside, but why they were there didn't matter.

Memories flooded in and she saw people she had known in the Antarian's places. Xu stood there for only a few moments, though it felt longer to her, and the rear escort probably thought she was in awe of the place instead of the opposite, until she began to shake her head and back away from the sight. Panic gripped her. Bumping into someone behind her caused an adrenaline rush and she turned to make a break back to the waterfalls, struggling to breathe.

He was relieved in leaving the crowd behind, he felt allways uncomfortable with many people around. His mood rose again when he saw the birds. Iyapo looked like he'd like to join them, yet he didn't forget his job.

The life hardened kid's childlike features started to surface, untill they entered the feasting area.

It couldn't be, he thought. His fear came true. That what started in his home village has spread here. Had the king lied that he didn't know him, Iyapo Guardian of the Deep. He shuddered at the thought of the name. It had destroyed his peacefull fishermans life in the village. He had followed Chaigani to be respected, not worshipped, adored, hated or feared. Steaks, fowl, and exotic vegetables steam over the table in sort of a buffet style display. Wine, Juice, or Water can be requested from the many servants around with golden jugs.

You will all be entertained by performers from all over Antaria; from singers, dancers, to even sketch artists {drawing and acting even :smallwink:}. Baka

This will be a night that I remember long into my old age. While lying down to sleep, Baka reflects on this day behind him. His day had started with the glory of new friendship being bonded as all stepped from their ship together for the first time and started to analyze the adventure ahead of them. As he felt privileged to meet King Zrkra, this was quickly overwhelmed with awe at the city and palace that this king and his ancestors had built. He even struggled with guilt due to his own awe. Osiris, have I not seen this beauty at the falls of Zandra? Don't the plains of the Lion hold as much majesty? But he had to admit that he doubted his own answers tonight. This was truly amazing.

He even enjoyed the feast, which is something he would normally find an excuse to dismiss himself from, as he had done with his mother many times before. The food, the company, and the performances all spinning together to create the magic of a king's feast. It did not occur to him that this may have been one of the purposes of this night, to create the stories of glory about King Zrkra.

He was careful to not drink to much as he remembered that he was still a representative of Chigani at this council. So it was easy for Baka to close his eyes while lying in the Pagoda, letting the soft sounds around him rise as the still night descends on the final hours. I think my only regret this night is that I did not take a swim in this lake.

The white robed priest goes on with enjoying the feast, though he seems to be doing a lot more talking than feasting as he tries to learn as much as he can about Antaria as well as the other guests.

Sometime during the dinner, Ramose inquires about bringing away some left over food from the feast. If the answer is affirmative, he leans over toward Serasita and says, "Xu's missing out on some good food, my love. What do you suggest we take back for her?" The priest packs away some food according to Serasita's advice, not wanting to bring anything unsuitable to the elven palette. As soon as a good opportunity arises, he tries to find Xu. If he does indeed find her, he lays the food out in front of her as quietly as he can manage - hoping to not disturb her while she meditates - before rejoining the festivities.

After viewing the pagodas, Ramose returns Gwen's quirky smile with one of his own as he replies, "We did manage quite nicely, didn't we? Yes, let's share one!" Baka will be in luck, because all the lakeside bungalows, had easy swimming access on a beach. It looked set-up so that the King could even throw parties there.

Serasita blushes at Gwen's comment unsure of what to make of it. A smirk crosses her lips as she turns to Ramose, beet red. Elves try anything, and let us just say that indeed, what happened in the pagoda, should probably stay in the pagoda. Xu will probably hear this activity all night across the lake.

Chigani will swim out with Allie and engage in their own idea of making love on a bed of water.

These can only be fey lights, and a magical effect will calm her down, and allow her to enjoy the beauty that is this fresh new land. Xu

Xu looked over the food that awaited her when she came out of her revelry. It was sweet, if not wasteful, as they had overestimated how much she could eat. She did eat, if only to show that she was grateful for the kindness, even though the culprit might never know, and then placed the remains in a place a servant would find them.

After a bit of watching, Xu retreated back behind the waterfall to escape the sounds echoing across the lake, wishing as she went that the loss of her ears had taken the keen hearing with them. The sounds could not last all night, and eventually she came back out to watch the light show.

She wondered how V was doing. Xu was bound by herself, forever a prisoner to her cause, and she prayed to Corellon that he would watch over her friend until she could find release from it and let herself stay with him. It was a silly thought. She was sure the world would never be free from the darkness...but she could hope...

Breakfast, without all the pomp of the previous night, was tollerable, though Xu remained to the side watching instead of partaking. She was anxious to get going. Even if it meant facing more death and horror, it was preferable to the memories that this place wouldn't let rest.

"Arcanist? Not quite. Bit of planar research. Somethin' I picked up from Blue, actually. Bit of a funny story; would ya believe that I, navigator and chief of crew, haven't the foggiest idea where I am? Backwards, right? Thing is, I can navigate the Tornado and read the control panel; I know where we've been and how we got from there to here, but I don't know how to get home. I mean, to my home. I don't know if ya noticed, but I don't have a lot of kin runnin' around in the world, mostly 'cause it isn't my world. I managed to stumble from elsewhere into Blue's domain quite by accident, and I've been tryin' to figure out how ever since.

"Don't get me wrong, though. I won't be takin' off as soon as I know the way back. I'd just like to have the option one day, and it doesn't hurt to know a bit more 'bout the planes when you're on a ship like the Tornado."

Xu looked at Falgort with a highly arched eyebrow and a half-smirk. "The elves of the crystal city said something like that too. I talked. Eldrin listened and tried to help me, but two weeks with V did me more good because at the very least he understood what it was like not to belong anywhere."

She sighed slightly and tensed, a trained response to such behavior, but the whip didn't come. It hadn't in years but for some reason she still expected it. Her voice remained calm as she continued, as though she were meerly talking about the weather. "I am not sure what talking about it helps. It does not change anything, and it does not make me feel any differently about it. If I understood the reasoning behind other people's actions perhaps I could come to terms with everything, but more than twenty years later I still cannot even figure out why they took my ears." As Xu pondered the problem once again her eyes searched the empty air as though an answer might appear. She shook her head, "The world does not make any sense, so why should I?"

In the morning the group is pampered with fanfare, and Allie and Chigani meet with all of you. Chigani and most of his men would go on. Allie and a couple of other lucky ship crewmen, who made it to dinner, will go back to the ship, or stay with old Zrkra.

The party escorted to the edge of town would be:
Gwen
Jondalar
Ramose
Farlgort
Wrick
Xu
Rikaan
Baka
Iyapo

npcs:
Chigani
Serasita
and 4 other warrior Antarian escorts of Chigani

Zrkra will meet with this small group alone in a small hut on the edge of the city into the jungle. "Only the strongest should go into the lowest depths. Those too weak may turn against you. So beware. My friend, Chigani, you are a great warrior. I hope we can drink to your name in victory. You know the markings I speak of... Most of the seals are marked with blood, but a few are invisible. You should make sure that you detect for magic often."

Chiagani will say his good-byes and the lead the party on out in the jungle. He knew right where it was. He needed no guide. No pack animals would be taken, too dangerous. All excess gear will have to be left on the ship. Magical portation to the temple was bad too, as wild magic surged everywhere in the land.

The large party will first set out on an old trader road. It will only be familiar to Baka. Iyapo and Rikaan have never been here.

Chigani volunteers to be point, and two big Antarians will be rear guards if needed.

Xu paused, "Are you afraid that I would turn on the rest of you?" She nodded, "I suppose that could happen. Given the right stimuli most people could be turned into something that they do not think they are." She watched his reaction carefully. The people she had met rarely showed genuine concern for others, usually having some alterior motive when they bothered with the attempt. The first day in the jungle will reveal many outlying farmers and cottages, and even a few small Inns along the dirt road through the jungle. This first day the group may decide to take over one of the larger Inns, since they can legitimately sleep under a roof even a day out of Zrkra's City.

Baka and Rikaan could probably suggest several excellent places to sleep in the woods. Chigani knows an Inn suitable for all of you. He seems saddened to not be at Allie's side, and there was a long look when he walked away with the group. Allie stayed as a special guest of Zrkra, and the crew was getting shore leave while the temple mission was a foot.

Xu

Xu watched Falgort walk away and wondered if she had been a little harsh. He was more pleasant to talk to than a rock, but the city had her on edge already, and there was no way she could let down her defenses in this place.

She sat and pondered. Mishakal...it sounded familiar, but every country, and sometimes every city, had its own names for the gods. She had been around, but she couldn't figure out where she'd heard it, and which god it refered to. The thoughts slipped away as it came time to leave.

Leaving the city behind did wonders for Xu's mood. The tension noticeably melted away, and she started to pester Baka with questions about the jungle since he seemed the most talkative. When the question of the night's rest came up she looked to the inn with a frown, "I think I would prefer to stay outside."

Chigani decides that he'd like to stay in an Inn. He has a friend around here.

Inns in Antaria are not unlike Inns in the Empire, though they are much smaller, and not as many great communal rooms. The Inns also have no signs or formal posting to mark it. They are mostly converted homes, of those who have settled in the jungle or along the road.

Chigani suggests a large thin wooden building made of wooden slats. You didn't need insulation at night here, it was plenty warm.

An old dark man with a white afro will greet you as proprietor of this Inn. When he sees Chigani the old man will nearly burst into tears speaking in Antarian, "Lord Chigani... Your honor. Welcome. This humble abode is all I can offer to such a noble quest. I am glad to be in your presence again." He looks to the rest of you and speaks in rough Imperial common. "My name is Pili Phomello. You are all my honored guests." He bows before you all.
{Ghedi- one of Chigani's entourage who took you to the seer's cave acts as interpreter for those who do not speak the Antarian tongue. Rikaan knows him to be a fairly decent archer, but not too good in hand-to-hand.}

This is a large Inn, 3 to a room will suffice... though 4 could fit if that is desired. Chigani feels safe here, and suggests no night-guard. He looks to Ramose and Gwen, "So, then your late night tryst can continue." He gives the two priests an amused smirk. Chigani will retire to a room and later will be visited by two of Pili's daughters.

This will really be no different than an Imperial stay at an Inn, though the fruit at breakfast and the strange juices do remind you that you are in a new part of the world {some of you that is:smallwink: }. The road ahead on the next day will fade into the jungle, and only Baka can see the hidden trail that the animals use to get to waterways. Baka can also see markings of an ancient road that once did continue out here, and in the direction that Chigani indicated the temple was in.

If there are any takers, he will guide them on a safe evening journey at the edges of the jungle, making sure to take them through safe trails and giving the appropriate warnings to stay out of the tall grasses and a good distance from the jungles edge. As twilight comes, Baka will walk softly and talk quietly about the area. "We avoid the tall grasses at night because the hooded snake hunts then. He will stand tall like the grass for hours waiting for prey and then fall upon them using its poison. In the jungle, other snakes will do the same from a tree. Things that look like vines may not always be so." Since there is only one person to watch for, Baka will go further to the jungle than he originally thought.

A thought occurs to him while walking this night. I wonder what burdens this one carries. They are plain and strong. "I have heard your kind to be light-hearted and light-footed. I do not mean to offend, but we each have our burdens to carry. Some I think more than others. Let's see if you are still light-footed, and maybe your ancestors still sing to you this night." Baka quickly chooses a large tree and begins to deftly climb the hanging vines around the large trunk. Trying to gauge Xu's confidence in climbing, Baka will try to find a good vantage point to lie on a tree branch and watch the jungle night begin.

The strange elf looked dubiously up the tree. Xu had only a vague idea of what Baka was trying to say, and wondered what her ancestors had to do with climbing a tree. Never having been allowed to climb trees as a child, and never having the desire as an adult, she had some difficulty. She was strong enough, but there was no skill, as she had no idea which vines to grab or where her feet would find purchase. At least her armor wasn't hindering her, but it was still slow work.

Patience is a virtue, and luckily one she had in great supply. Like the snake Baka had spoken of, she was able to stand still for hours, days if necessary so long as she didn't walk in her meditations. At least she had gotten something useful out of the whole ordeal, but she could have done without. A strange smile came to her face and Xu nearly tumbled from the tree as her mind wandered. She clung to the trunk, taking a deep breath and continuing the rest of the way up to a large branch near, but slightly lower than Baka's.

That's far enough

Xu looked down and then up at Baka, "I may need some help to get down without breaking a leg...or my neck." She was only half joking, but that was much more than usual. Continuing to look around, she spoke her thoughts aloud. "Where is Wrick? He should not wander alone."

The uneventful, if slightly unnerving, night was preferable to the inn. At least Xu thought so. When the small group returned to Pili's house she noted Pili's daughters leaving Chigani and all she felt was disgust. It seemed the longer she spent with humans the more she disliked about them. She added it to the list and hid it behind the mask she always wore.

Xu volunteered to hack away at the vines, if only to take her mind off of the boredom and the company. She pulled out her finely-sharpened, dull-grey longsword and went at it. It was just like working in the field, only there was no one yelling at her to work faster and harder. As she continued forward, Xu began to hum a song that no one in the group would recognize. It would have been brutal work in the heat of the day, with the humidity making it almost oppressive, but Iyapo's blessing took the harsh edge off making it easy for Xu to simply focus and ignore everything but the next section of vines to be cut. She found a rhythm that matched her song and the humming grew louder.

Baka will gladly accept the blessing Iyapo or anyone else gives in preparation for the entry into the temple. As Chigani takes the lead, Baka maintains a distance behind him while walking up the temple steps, although he is perplexed by the almost ceremony of the moment that Chigani displays.

As he hikes the steps, Baka suggest further order to the approach. "You are brave young Iyapo. We will all rely on your keen eyes up front." Baka looks around the group, noticeably taking inventory of the skills and trying to use his warrior's training to guide him. I have never traveled with so many that knew how to defend themselves so well. Baka motions to Xu, indicating to move forward. "I think we would also be wise to use your instincts to know when evil approaches. I also have experience hunting the undead in these ancient temples, but I will rotate into the rear guard with our two other spearmen and Rikaan after we enter the temple."

Baka looks past Chigani to the top of the temple, "May the gods bless us."

At first, the center of the orb glows faintly, then it quickly becomes as bright as a torch. "So, how bright do we want it? Just a little, like so?" The priest asks, gesturing toward the orb. "Or shall we all work on our suntans while we're inside?" With that, the orb's light intensifies until it can barely be looked at without blinding oneself. "Or we could have it a bit brighter yet..."

The entrance of the pyramid leads to a small chamber with a spiral stair down. It is pitch black, and no markings are on these walls. They have been stripped clean by age and wear. It is simply grey stone.

Chigani leads onward with one of his warriors carrying his torch behind him. It gets dark fast once you reach the large and lower chamber. This chamber has almost no light in it, and at the far side of the chamber was another spiral stair down. Chigani once again boldly leads the party down to the third chamber. According to legend the upper layers were merely larger and larger rooms, until you got to the underground complex. No-one has gone past the crypts in the underground complex, and lived to tell the tale.

Once everyone enters the third floor, as Chigani is nearly about to continue...
The ground suddenly leaks an awful fleshy substance that fills the entire chamber with its odor. The fleshy rotten aura causes you to make a fortitude save. The fright of it makes you fearful.

Antarian #1 with the torch is swallowed whole by the fleshy nastiness. The man attempts to scream and is struggling still! It also grabs Farlgort {d:13} and Ramose {d:10}, and begins to pull them down, but they are resisting a little better for now... The damage is acidic, and sharp, as mini teeth try to devour them, and prick their blood.

Gwen, Farlgort, and Ramose will also notice several lesser shadows starting to peep their heads through the walls.

Chigani and Iyapo are near the stair down and could continue. Rikaan and Baka are near the up-stairs and can retreat if needed, the rest will be slowed by the fleshy crap pouring out of the very cracks in the stone. Chigani looks like he intends to save his companion and friend.

OOC- I like to move the battles along, so keep up. I will usually do conservative 'safe' actions, but often times I do make bad moves that result in 'grave'-states for PCs. I will at least post once a day, and have done a fifty round battle on these boards in much less than a month, so keep up!
OOC2- I doubt this battle will go THAT long. That was an epic war zone.

Round 1:
Rikaan unleashes fire from his spear, and fries the smelly undead flesh! {d:12 fire} The fire seems to effect the mass fully and it squeals somehow as it sizzles.

Chigani moves alongside Xu and hacks away at the mass of flesh, and causes it some wounds. trying to hack out his friend.

Serasita backs up, and tries to hit the flesh off Ramose, but is only effective in scratching it somewhat.

Ramose pulls out his golden anhk, it shines in holy light {14 HD}, 4 shadows are destroyed, and scream as they disappear from the light; they are sent back to the Abyss. His feet are still entrenched in the fleshy muck. Ramose is pale, and seems to be succumbing to the sickness more...

Jondalar sees an opening near Gwen and launches a lightning bolt into the mess. It electrocutes it a little, but somehow, Jondalar thinks that it was insulated against some of his attack. {d:29 lightning}

Wrick grabs Ramose and Farlgort and dimension doors them to the stairs. They are in the dark spiral stair, and can hear the comabt, but can't see it currently. Though Rikaan and Baka can be seen at the stairs landing.

Baka retreats up the stairs toward Wrick and fires an arrow shot at the mass of flesh covering the floor now. The flesh seems to have fully seeped up from the rocks. {13+3-2 hit d:6} He fires his arrow for minimal effect. There does seem to be a minor damage resistance.

Farlgort will bless all in the stairs {Baka, Wrick, himself, and nearby Baka, Rikaan, and A.W.2}

Xu reaches into the muck cut open by Chigani for the Antarian warrior, she finds the undead flesh eats her skin as she reaches in. {d:8} She can feel it fight her and pull her in as she tries to get out. Xu pulls the unconscious, but alive warrior out of the muck. {grapple 17+9} The Antarian warrior is in her arms, but it took a moment for her to get him out, and she can feel that the ground is moving on her now! Her hand has many tiny bites on it.

Gwen moves to the rear and blasts a concentration of shadows. She destroys five shadows, with her holy light of Ehlonna. {DM action} She can see there are only a few more shadows around.

Iyapo can fly I believe... {this action can be retro'd}

The other Antarian warrior retreats up to Wrick, "We must not abandon the chief!" His accent is very thick.

Most of the shadows fly at Gwen... only one manages to hit her, and she feels as her muscles freeze up a bit, from their icy deathly touch. {-5 Str.}
A few fly at others, including one that weakens Chigani a bit.

The flesh first goes at Xu, and the elf avoids it cleanly pulling the Antarian man up with her. The warrior looks quite big in her arms.

Rikaan is also attacked. A tendril of sickly flesh reaches up and grabs at him. {grapple 1+6+1 fumble} Rikaan is pulled face first into the muck! {d:7} {Doh! Double fumbled will save!} He is stunned and now engulfed in the muck.

Serasita's holiness is detected, and she is grabbed and also pulled in. Judging by the way she is limp when she is engulfed it is likely she is stunned too! Ramose has not seen this yet.:smallfrown:

Ramose and Farlgort feel sicker almost immediately!
Fort Saves:
Farlgort 20+4
Ramose 14+5

They puke and lose control for this round, but will have no other side effects.
{Ramose and Farlgort can't act for one round, still at -2 Con. Saving was definitely good there,}

Some of the monster's wounds close up a bit. Rikaan can feel the sickness trying to enter him again as he is covered and stunned!

{OOC - I assume 'frightened' only lasts one round?}

Frustration and rage grow within Baka as he watches the group try to regain its ranks. Rikaan's attack seemed to be the only thing that the monster reacted to. Seeing Gwen and Rikaan fall into the ooze and witnessing Chigani's and Xu's rescue of the Anatarian, Baka grabs a torch from his pack and a flask of oil. Laying the flask down he will light the torch on any fire that is near or with his own flint if necessary.

Grabbing the torch, the flask, and his scimitar he steadies himself against the panic that took him moments ago and reenters the chamber to damage this unnatural affliction and rescue Gwen, then Rikaan (who may be strong enough to pull himself out).

Xu still has the warrior in her arms, she will have to use her action to carry the large man away from the monster, and can put him on the stairs down. She'll have trouble fighting with him in her arms anyway...:smallwink: {OOC- She did save him!}

Gwen destroys four more shadows with her light of Ehlonna. {DM action} Chigani shouts, "Save some of that holy power in reserve... just in case." He swallows nervously as he looks across the smelly chamber to Gwen.

Those near Chigani and Iyapo will be horrified as the teen's fiery breath covers Chigani. {The only one left in the immediate area of effect.} Chigani is unharmed though is a bit startled by the warm sensation around him. The strange scorching breath hurts the undead flesh, and seems to make it slow down in the frontal area, but it seems to act as seperate parts, so only a little bit of it was slowed and entangled.

The sickened Antarian warrior {#2} bends over and hurls his lunch as Ramose and Farlgort do near him. He however breaks out into a sweat, convulses, and begins to bleed from his nose. He still lives, but is looking bad!

The fleshy substance continues to crush and devour Serasita and Rikaan. {d:12 acid 6} From the outside it is hard to say either one still lived. The flesh around Chigani, Iyapo, and Xu is slowed and having difficulty. It looks like they have turned the tide on this side of the flesh!

{OOC 2: This round... EDIT: Oops. Forget all of this part, I got simu-ninja wizarded...}

Feeling marginally better, Ramose draws his khopesh as he flies back to the scene of the battle. As he gets back into the room, he can't help but notice the flames being tossed about by some of his companions, and that their weapons don't seem to be doing much. He laments the fact that he hasn't prepared any fire magic as he quickly scans the room for Serasita. Unsurprisingly, he doesn't see her anywhere; but, he does see the two mounds amongst the mass of rotten flesh.

Suddenly, a new option occurs to the young priest, and he begins to chant feverishly. A lump begins to develop in his throat, making it difficult to speak, but he still manages to finish his prayer. As he speaks the last word, some of his strength leaves him, but he pays it no heed as he steels his mind to focus on the task at hand.

Why is it always this way? She proceeded to say a quiet prayer in elven, that the souls of their lost comrades be guided safely to their final resting places, and that they find joy and peace there.

A hand on her arm broke her from it, and Xu looked at Falgort as the pain from her wounds subsided. "Thank you." She reached out and stroked his cheek with a sad smile, allowing her own divine energy to flow into him.

Upon seeing what is left of Serasita, the sun priest drops to his knees next to her remains. Choking back tears as well as the urge to vomit once again, Ramose closes his eyes and prays quietly over his beloved's body as it rapidly breaks down. After what seems to him to be an eternity, he finishes the prayer, and then he looks about for anything belonging to Serasita that might have survived. Whatever he happens to find, he cradles it tenderly - just as if he were holding his elven princess once again - before stowing it away in his pack, presumably to keep as a memento.

Finally, Ramose stands up again and turns away from the grisly scene, holding his glowing orb in one hand and a stick carved from ivory in the other. In the bright light emanating from the orb, two wet streaks can clearly be seen on his face, and the young priest is certainly - and understandably - not his usually cheerful self, but he manages to keep his composure as he asks, "Does anyone...need healing?"

Xu

In comparison to Maliki, Xu looked tiny. Still, she lifted the warrior rather forcibly from bowing. "No bowing to me Maliki, and no debts either. We are all in this together. We must all watch each other's backs or none will escape this dark place." She turned as if to give her attention to those in the room but paused and looked back. "My given name is Lillerian Kel'Corell, but everyone calls me Xu."

Why she had felt compelled to tell him that she couldn't say. Perhaps it was only the reciprocation of the formality he had showed. Perhaps she was getting tired of hiding. Perhaps it didn't really matter anymore. It was what it was, and so she dropped the thought and surveyed the group trying to determine how long they should rest before continuing.

OOC: Lillerian Kel'Corell <<Hope, Beloved of Corellon>> for those who were paying attention and understand elven.

Iyapo

Iyapo didn't flinch of the scene of bodies. He had witnesses burned corpses and bloated ones of whom died in the sea. He wasn't even a boy for words but new that words or not allways needed. He flies beside Ramose staying at the same hight as he and lays his hand on Ramose shoulder. Not that used to his wings, he can't maintain hovering for long anf has to continue. Finally he lands at furthest opening from the point they entered from and puts his shoes on, his large wings folded against his back.

Chigani nods sadly, as he sees Iyapo land, his eyes are clearly impressed as the white dragon wings fold on his back. "We must push on. The Evil knows we're here."

Not much is left on Serasita, her family signet ring and her partially dissolved longsword, among a few other mostly destroyed things can be found.

The disease that infected the Antarian warrior effects Serasita as well, and their bodies continue to breakdown and decay, eventually seeping through the cracks and disappearing.

Chigani swallows, "I say we should prepare for what ever lays in the next room down the stairs. The evilness here seems to have gone down there."
Chigani reaches into his sack and pulls out an elixir, and goes to Gwen's side. "This will help you. I do not think Jondalar's magic will last long enough." He forces the clear-blue liquid to her mouth, and heals her! {An elixir of Heal!} She is completely healed, and her muscles are warmed and strengthened. Gwen has seen powerful potions like this, but only with the high priests at the big temples of Ehlonna's forest.

Chigani calms Farlgort, "Be careful, but we must find the hidden stair. Below us, say the hero's of our past, is the ground floor of the pyramid. No-one, but the old priests ever dare go lower..." He nods to Ramose. "We needn't go further, for the sword we seek lays there. The old King says there was a muck below, a foul swamp, that covers the ground. Only the bravest must search. The rest should stay here by the false crypt or nearby in the stairwell. Know this. Few that have stepped into the foul mucky waters have returned. I shall lead. Young Iyapo, this will not be the time for you to use your swimming skills. You must stay above us. The chamber is 20 feet high there, and you can cover us with this." He hands Iyapo his golden spear. "It is highly magical, and has the power to become what ever material you need it to be. Be careful, for there is a limited number of times you can change its material make-up per day." Maliki looks in reverence as the golden spear is presented to the teen. Chigani then speaks in their native tongue solemnly. "If I should rejoin the Light of Ra this day, you must make sure this spear is returned to my son, after the Red Tornado retrieves the Sceptre." Xu took her assigned watch, moving quietly to the stairwell, and spreading a bag of caltrops a little more densely than normal across one of the upper stairs. She sat at the bottom letting her torch shine a few rays of light, just enough for her keen elven eyes to see by.

Rikaan's shout drew her eyes to him and she saw the fleeting whisps of the shadows. "Everyone to the center!" Her call was mostly for Rikaan, but being away from the walls would force the creatures to attack from the floor alone, or leave them more vulnerable by flying through entire room. She moved to the center, sword drawn. "Here, away from the walls."

Xu focused on the evil around them. It was difficult to pick out anything more evil than anything else in the forsaken temple, but she still tried. If she could warn whomever was closest, they might have a better chance to dodge or attack when the shadows re-emerged.

Rikaan's {DM action} spear is alive with flame and he jabs with difficulty at the injured shadow. {14+8 d:12 +6 fire} The monster still lives!

Ramose fails to drive the greater shadows away with his rushed turn attempt.

Iyapo spread his white wings and flies over Rikaan. Iyapo will have to land quick, after his attack for there is not much room to maneuver here. He releases his breath over the shadows... {more on this... can the breath entangle incorporeal creatures?}

Gwen stands and shines her light, to turn undead, and manages to make one go away, and retreat into the stone.

Chigani jumps to Rikaan's side and finishes the most injured shadow.

Jondalar aids with magic missiles, but his seem to do less adamge to another shadow. {d: 9}

Maliki moves in behind Baka.

"As for strategy, I think we should pull out all the stops as far as our magic goes. Just before we go down, I plan on using all of my longer-term spells. I'll put up a Magic Circle to protect us from the Evil below, shielding magic on those leading the charge..." Ramose nods toward both Chigani and Xu. "...and a few other protective prayers." The priest looks to the other spellcasters. "If anyone has magic detection prepared, it might be good to have it active when we go down. I plan on doing so as well; it might help us locate the artifact more quickly. And since there's supposed to be water and muck down there, I've asked Lord Ra for a special miracle today. Hopefully it will help us as well."

"Jondalar, that strengthening magic of yours might also be good for our front-liners, if you think you can spare it. And if anyone plans on having a free hand, I'll need someone to carry this..." He holds up the glowing orb, which is now shining as bright as daylight. "...because I'll be needing both of my hands for this..." He pulls his khopesh out from his backpack.
