Well, everyone, it's all come down to this. Two strips were so close, we're running a run-off to see who is the real champion. These are the best of the best of the worst OOTS strips of all time (Disclaimer: by "all time" I mean prior to August 31, 2015). Once we vote on these, we will determine what the best of all the worst strips in OOTS is!

Also, please visit the "Ultra Brick Awards" (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?499636-The-Ultra-Brick-Awards-Round-1)!

Please vote once before 10:00 am PDT, 9/13/2016!

My original vote was for 658; it would be fickle to change now, wouldn't it?

Our two grand finalists are both great strips. While I voted for 18 in the finals, I'll not be sad that one of these two will be crowned instead.

I think, upon further reflection, that both strips are carried by one character in particular. Xykon's banter is totally on point in 658, and Julio's big speech is definitely one of the series' best.

Such a tough call... but in the end, one strip had fantastic dialogue and badassry... and the other had fantastic dialogue, badassry, and a dressing down of one of the biggest fantasy tropes of all time.

#392 wins this one for me by a hair.

#392

I've listed my reasons in the other thread. I have only one thing left to say.

Inner greenness.

Ummm... if it's OK for me to come in at the end and vote? I missed the earlier rounds....

392 is good, it has some wonderful bits. Inner greenness.... Julio debunking the aged mentor trope, while coming from a character build that works around exploiting story tropes, including using just that kind of trope several times on that very page (passing on the sword, getting Elan to the destination by instinct etc.) ... the hollywood action hero shot of Elan after jumping out of the airship.... but the thing is, the punchline panels already happened in a previous page, and were timed to absolute perfection there (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0386.html) (#386 being one of the all time funniest OOTS punchlines for me) so for me it somehow falls a bit flat through the comparison.

658 doesn't have as much packed in (it is only one page vs three after all!) but it does it well. It's part of a sequence that is building the tension up to very high levels, and plays it's part in that. And I do like the recurrence of the "Blackwing was there too" joke, which manages to fit in a laugh without breaking the tension. So that's my vote.

Always! Though be warned - if we have another tie I'm extending the deadline indefinitely until someone comes in and breaks it. Don't be even - be evil!

392 for many reasons; including but not limited to: *takes deep breath* Meta jokes, "It's not like they're gonna get invaded before they can repair it, you know", Elan's dramatic instincts, Julio talking casually about being a wanted man, Julio's parting advice, meta jokes, :thog:thog get in ouch with outer greenness, too, and meta jokes. Whew!

With 10 votes to 392, and 10 votes to 658, I reluctantly carry my vote for 392, from the last thread (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showsinglepost.php?p=21153886&postcount=2).

By the tinniest of margins, this will make 392 the golden brick, but 658 deserves it's spot in the sunshine for it's spectacular performance.

But hey, at least we got to vote a bit more.

Ahh, I forgot to vote in this one :(

Still, I'd have voted for 392 as well, so it would have totally dominated... thog brought breadcrumbs... non-sequitor for the win :smalltongue:
