The town of Longacre sits just outside the fringes of the Whisperwood. A few lights shine in the streets and windows, and the occasional snippet of conversation or laughter issues from open doors, but here on the outskirts of town, the night is quiet and dark. Sparse clouds scud across the sky, momentarily obscuring the dim light from the moon overhead. Theres a faint wind that blows across the assembled persons backs, then down across a scrubby field that is barely distinguishable under the starry sky, coming to rest before a darkened, fortlike compound hunches in the distance.

The lithe woman points to the Structure in the distance. Cimri. The girl is young, probably in her mid twenties by the looks of things, with a body somewhere between scrawny and wiring. Athletic, but not too athletic. Her face is vaguely almond shaped by wit more hard lines that round edges to it. Theres a crooked smirk her lips, in anticipation of whats about to happen. In one hand she holds her sap. The other grips a dagger firmly pointed at Louslik's Tannery in the distance.

“That’s it—Louslik Tannery. So here’s the job: We break in, sack Ol’ Louslik’s office, take whatever’s shiny, and get out before the sheriff shows up. If we get separated, meet back at the Ash House by dawn.” Dull moonlight glints across her dagger as she flicks it slightly upward in emphasis. “If you get pinched, remember: you’re mute. Keep your mouth shut, and I’ll handle things. I got assurances that we won’t take any blame if things go south. But get chatty and I’ll let you rot.” A beat passes as she maintain the crooked smirk. “If we don’t screw things up, we’ll all be drinking on Razelago’s coin come dawn. Any questions before we do this?”

You've all made prior arrangements with Cimri to do this mission.
If have any questions for him, you will recall the events as answers.

For Garrick Hruska only:

You recall the meeting you had with a representative of Darellus Fex. He told you to help out an employee of his Cimri.

Lady Holly Thrune struggled to remember why she agreed to going this crude route rather than using diplomacy. Meanwhile, she blotted her forehead with the sleeve of her ornate silk dress, absentmindedly, albeit carelessly as her mother had thousands of such dresses back at home. It was a hot and humid night, but at least she could see the stars.

Niccolo frowned, shifting in his saddle uncomfortably. When he was younger he'd dreamed of all the different careers he wanted to live; none of them had been 'thief'. His stomach rumbled audibly, and his empty coin-purse weighed on his hip. Mammon makes fools of us all.

Dismounting, he wrapped the reins around a nearby tree and nodded to the others. "Lets get started." He starts to trot towards the tannery.

Lady Holly recalls asking that same question when she met Cimri at the Last Standing Inn. Cimri told her that all she knew was that Louslik wasn't paying his taxes like a good law abiding citizen. She wasn't sure if diplomacy was tried. You are told your pay is likely tied up in what is stolen.

Bring you back to the present, Cimri says, "While I'm all for killing when it needs to be done, but see if you avoid killing a person like Louslik. Lot easier to free ya'll if you get caught that way."

Morvius gives a grim chuckle at Cimri's last comment. "True. Bodies tend to attract too much attention, even though we are of course simply taking what is due. Everybody talks, gets upset. Really, it is just mess." Despite this, Morvius takes comfort from the familiar weight of his rapier at his hip. Though he had little intention of stabbing someone tonight, it was always good to have the option.

When the man starts walking towards the tannery, Morvius says "Hold on for a second. This place isn't just somewhere to walk into. Louslik is probably awake in there, there are two farmers coming and going all night, and there are dogs about. Just be patient and cautious."

"There's an opening in the palisade, near the beam house. Bit of a squeeze, but it saves us a climb, and it's out of their way." Garrick motioned to the complex as though to point out the workers undoubtedly milling about. "I reckon a show of force oughta be enough to get through most of them down there. I have some rope; if anyone has spare rags for gags we can tie up anyone who gets in our way, in case they wake up before we're done."

A question aboit Cimri; how has she presented hersef to our characters? Is she representing the government, or a "private party" so to speak?

"Louslik can't learn from this if he's dead," Yllada said dryly. ""He'll be left alive."

She didn't bother to add that the idea that the sheriff could do anything to make her speak almost amusing. Yllada doubted that the Longacre constabulary was more persuasive that the Inquisition of Zon-Kuthon.

She followed Garrick's gesture dispassionately. Not disinterested; the dark-haired woman was paying very close attention to what was being said. But Yllada had never been given to extremes of passion, and her expression and body spoke to that.

"Intimidation. Simple enough." Familiar, too; Yllada touch the wicked spiked chain looped at her hip. She was not a stranger to stealth, even if she preferred the thought of marching through the front doors, and taking what was owed.

Crimri represented herself as associated with a private party who is deeply invested in the safety and security of this city. Whomever she said they were, they seemed able to procure documents freeing almost any imprisoned if this mission ends pear shaped.

"I should warn you, a Tannery is not a nice place for a nose. If they have any critters like dogs or dinosaurs," She pauses and laughs ."I'm joking" Cimri says, "{there are only a myth}, feel free to kill then."

With that said, Cimri lopes alongside the rest of you as you make your way towards the gap in the palisade that Garrick has pointed out. Now would most certainly be the time to cover your noses.

"So, unless one of you has a better plan, I say we take this little gap." Cimri draws her own sap, "while I'd prefer my dagger, this will be more efficient."

OCC:

Ffeel free to make stealth checks as you go either in gap or around palisades in to avoid the possible guard dogs detecting you right away. While the smell will hide your scent, they can still hear or see you.

Also, anyone going inside has to make a DC 12 fortitude save to avoid being sickened by the stench. Those who cover their noses with a mask, handkerchief, or similar item gain a +2 circumstance bonus on the saving throw. Failure results in being nauseated for one round then sickened for the next minute as you acclimate to the smell of the tannery.

Morvius pulls a handkerchief out of his rear pocket and ties it around his face, quite glad he hadn't brought anything finer than the ragged cotton. He'd have to burn all of his clothing after this. The scent from the tannery was awful, and it would no doubt imbue itself permanently in anything brought inside. He'd no doubt have to scrub his weapons thoroughly just to feel like they were clean again. He draws his rapier and steps in behind Niccolo.

The tannery reeked. She hadn't expected quite so overpowering an odour; or, at least, not this kind of overpowering odour.

Yllada turned up her nose, and pressed a gloved hand against her face. She was regretting coming full-armored, or at least bereft of a coat or a scarf.

Either way, she followed the others. She didn't bother to unhook the weapon dangling at her waist; she trusted herself to be able to draw it quickly enough, if it was needed.

"Come, now, Idiot. Give your Lady your shirt or you will get another flogging."

Lady Holly Thrune's 70 year old halfling slave came forward. He had been renamed Idiot since his master found it amusing. As the old slave removed his shirt, scars could be seen all along his back--due to frequent lashings by the cat-o-nine-tails in his youth.

Holly remembered the smell she saw earlier when snooping around, and shuddered. Not this time, she thought, as she wrapped the slave's shirt around her mouth and nose.

"That is a good slave. As a reward, you will not be punished when we arrive home."

The old slave's shirt smelled like sweat and dirt, but it was preferable to the smell in the tannery. Lady Holly and Idiot went forward, and each braced themselves.

Yllada and Idiot made a little bit of noise, accidently kicking a loose board on the ground. In the distance you hear a bark. And the three of you can see 2 small puppies near the stench pits. They seem to be looking for the noise, unsuccessfully, but they are aroused.

Garrick grimaced as they neared the tannery. The places had a reputation but he'd never been this close to one, and the shirt he'd wrapped around his head (to cover his face as much as to dampen the smell) did nothing to help. How do the dogs put up with this? he wondered. He had his long spear in hand, he had nowhere else to stow it after all, but he planned to use it only as a last resort. His fists and boots would do for these yokels, he was sure.

The smell was overpowering as he reached the gap, and he had to lean heavily on his spear as he tried not to make any coughing or gagging noises.

Speaking of dogs, it'd be hard to get past them without being spotted. Once Garrick was through the gap, he reached into a pouch and hurled a chunk of dried meat over the dogs to the far side of the yard. Then he signaled the others to make for the office.

Yllada's eyes tightened critically at the sight of the scars on Idiot's back. Or -not at the scars- at the casual and off-hand manner of Holly's. Speech.

It might have been odd, for an inquisitor -which, in Yllada's case, was vrually a polite way of saying torturer- to disparage the use of pain. But Holly's words struck Yllada as those of a spoiled and petulant child. Her lip tightened to a rough line, her hand almost reaching for the chain...

But, no. Even if Holly Thrune was in need of disciplining, a midnight adventure was hardly the right time to do it. Instead, Yllada settled for simply glowering at the child...

Enough that she disn't notice stepping on the board until it was too late. It wasfortunate -if ironic- that Lady Thrune was the one to take control of that situation.

Morvius and the others began picking at the locks of the door. Between the low light and the farmers age, they didn't appear to have been spotted. Nit yet, anyway.

"Morvius." She knelt behind the noble, squeezing his shoulder. "Is there a problem?"

She wanted to slow them down even more if possible before following the others inside. She could put something in the cart's path with mage hand. Unfortunately, she was out of range. Silently cursing, she readjusted her makeshift mask, and stood behind the others, ready to follow them once they entered. She gestured for Idiot to follow. 'Like a tannery' Yllada mentally added, wrinkling her nose with distaste. It probably smelt better inside...but no doubt Morvius and the others would be better able to part the fool from his pennies without the grim inquisitor looming over the proceedings.

Payment. Louslik was being shown a leniancy that would be near unhead of in Nidal. It made Ylada ill at ease.

As did the approaching farmers, though Niccolo seemed to have them well in hand. Pushing their cart for them was a deft touch -and an impressive feat; she hadn't thought the man so strong. She approved of it- even if the banter which he struck up seemed superfluous.

"Okay, I keep cash in this lockbox, a safe is less mobile, but harder to hide. Careful, it weights 20 pounds. And here is the key." Louslik hands it to Lady Holly, his new best friend.

"Tell your friends, Louslik needs the business, I have the finest leather in all of Longacre."

Cimri replies, " I didn't think we'd actually pull this off nonlethal like. We should head to the Ash House, our employer awaits".

No screams for help, and no cries from guards arriving at an inopportune moment. Those should have been good things; more people getting involved would have been messy and inexpedient.

But...Yllada couldn't quite shake that discomforting feel. Enforcing the law should have meant more than back pay. The price should have been extracted in more than just coin. If she had had her way..

"Are we done here," she asked the negotiators as they exited the building. She glanced inside, and the sight of the unharmed, bemusedly content Lousli made her frown tighten.
Definitely not how she would prefer things...

(you can post your actions prior to this if you want. Just setting up the next place)

What remains of this manor looks like it could collapse at any moment. Bearing the scars of a decades-old fire, the house is blackened and sags under the weight of its collapsed third floor. Shattered windows pose no barrier to the riot of ivy scaling each gable and invading every cavity. Bent pillars and a cracked granite porch lead to a warped door bearing a rusty doorknocker shaped like a boar’s head.

When you eventually follow Cimri to the Ash House, "Good job chaps, that was fun. Now for our reward. Follow me to the office upstairs where our employer awaits." She climbs through the broken window rather mess with the door and waits for you inside on other side.

Seeing the door to the offices open, Niccolo jogs over and motions that everyone should leave by the front gate. He, too, isn't smiling at the lack of punishment but knows it isn't his place to question. He tips the farmers a brief nod on the way out. Politeness costs nothing, and we may wind up seeing them again.

Arriving at the Ash House, he once again loosely ties his horse before entering. He follows Cimri through the window, stepping gingerly and staying near the walls for fear of the floor collapsing under him. While he does, he thinks. What kind of authority conducts itself out of a place like this? Either they are unsure of their power or, worse, they are illegitimate. Questions need to be asked.

Lady Holly put her Saps away and graciously accepted the lockbox and its key. Before setting off, she makes a final request of Louslik.

"Would you consider swearing your undying allegiance to Asmodeus? I mean, to become a devout agent of his will?"

Regardless of whether or not he converted, Lady Holly tried to recall something about Louslik she could use later.

Upon seeing the Ash House, Holly said "What a dump this place is. Somebody remind me to commission a painter and an engineer to refurbish this place!"Nonetheless, she followed the others inside. As she trudged up the creaking, dirty steps of the building, she tried to recall that book on local lore she researched before coming here that talked about what happened to this place.

Morvius shakes his head at the Thrune's actions. First she uses magic, and then tries to convert him while under spell. He hisses at her "In about an hour, your magic is going to wear off, and he is going to realize exactly what happened, and go screaming about it all over town. Fool." He tightens his grip on his rapier, considering the possibility of ending a likely source of future difficulties right then, but then relaxes as he realizes the vapid noble's death could likely be much more useful at a later time.

Morvius just shakes his head yet again, and follows Cimri through the window. He was going to need the services of an outrageously expensive masseuse after this was done.

Garrick was too busy trying not to vomit to say anything throughout the proceedings. He considered threatening the man with his spear and the greater numbers, but the high society lady broke the impasse with a single spell. So that's why she came along. And then, of course, she tried to play the missionary right afterwards. Garrick didn't even bother to gainsay her, as he simply departed with the others. He was not an especially fastidious man but the sooner he could be out of these clothes and into a scalding bath, the better.

Back at the Ash House:
Lady Holly

Supposedly, witches and witchfires attacked the building. In return for staying neutral in the wars. Whether, this is a myth or not, is unknown.

Inside:
Pieces of battered furniture lie here amid the choking scent of dust and ashes. Beneath a mantle crowded with empty whiskey bottles, the fireplace shows evidence of recent use. The scorched, broken visages of curious cherubs leer from atop archways leading deeper into the house.

"Bit of a mess, my employer's been letting me sleep here. Luckily, he hasn't saw it I hope. I'll clean up later." Cimri says as she scratches the back of her head chuckling.
"Come on, let us go upstairs. Come on, don't dawdle here. He'll want to know all about out success and give us our rewards."

It just shows the dark prince's order is inevitable and we ought best convert those of lesser faiths while we can. It curries favor in Hell. Now, I must excuse myself to the powder room. That tannery was DREADFUL. A hot bath and some tea is in order to celebrate our successful mission. IDIOT, PREPARE TO DRAW THE BATHWATER!"

With this, Lady Holly waited expectantly for her reward for being the star of the show at the tannery. A nice, bright red would do well on these walls, she thought.

Still following close behind Cimri, Niccolo is very careful to maintain a neutral expression. His shoulder had started to ache, deep in the muscle abutting the bone. Yllada always had something of a dour face, but there was something in the expression that expressed particular disapproval as they approached the Ash House.

'In through a window like rats,' she thought sourly, after relieving a criminal of his pennies.'

She liked the sitation she had found herself in less and less. She doubted she was the only one.

That man who had helped the farmers. Yllada disapproved of the leniency shown to Louslik -if he was to pay for his crime, let it be exacted by the lashings of the chain- but the mercy shown to his employees? That had been unexpected.

And the expression he wore approaching the house; that was far too even to be a natural reaction. She had to get his name; he was interesting indeed.

Cimri, she eyed evenly as they moved through the house. Yllada was getting the impression that this expedition had been less than legal. If that were the case...well. Zon-Kuthon would have his due of flesh and blood.

When you follow to top of stairs and turn into nearest room:
Toppled bookshelves, a table, and some chairs half-covered in ivy suggest this room was once a library. The ashes and pulp of burned, waterlogged books lay heaped amid fallen furniture, creating a large nest of sorts against one wall. A set of folding paper screens divides the room. A lantern flickers on the opposite side, projecting the silhouette of a desk and high-backed chair upon the thin paper.

You immediately notice a strange creature dozing in the nest of book pulp. The creature lifts her head with suspicion as the strangers enter.

Razelago. With all the effort he was going to to conceal his face, the Inquisitor doubted that was his real name.

"Why did you target Louslik." Not a question, exactly; more a flat tone demand. Yllada folded her arms, staring, as if that would be enough to pierce the paper screen.

"If you have authority in Longacre, and it was about taxes, why not just have him flogged? Why hire people to break into his business at night?"

She resisted the urge to grind her teeth, barely. Morvius, and Holly, and Razelago. The Cheliax were fond of their words and subtle intrigues. A consequance of Asmodeus, no doubt. In Nidal, that evasion would be frowned upon.

He'd oppose the cooperation I'd like to see among the town. I'd prefer that his influence weakened -- and no one trusts a poor man. I'm glad you didn't kill him... yet. That time may happen. Martyrdom. Yllada grimmaced, openly and with distaste.

Even in Nidal, there were some who saw the allure of that. Uncommon, unlikely...but never unheard of. There were always those too willfully ignorant to embrace change, and equally willful fools willing to follow them.

"I'd have preferred he pay in more than coin," she admitted, "but fine. He admitted to fraud."

How much more might he have admitted, had he been subject to the torturers touch? Still, it sounded as if this Razelago was more than a mere crime boss; his precautions alone said as much. And if he were intent on rooting out the corrupt of Longacre, well, that was a goal worth pursuing.

Either way, the inquisitor concede to the masked man...for the moment, and followed Cimri.

You are sure, he isn't being dishonest. He is being very careful how he words every sentence though.

Toward Kyronak, Razelago states this" I could tell you, but we are just starting our building of trust. I promise do more mission and I'll reveal more. Nothing I ask will require harm to befall you. But I'll mention, of Louslik, I discovered he associated with known vigilantes who speak of sedition against the our way of life and Queen. I have yet to act directly against them. I was weakening them this way. I hope that answer will do for now. I know of your past, I'm sorry they misjudge you."

Toward Lady Holly after the rest leaves, the figure behind the sheet puts one hand on his chin, "I hope, one day we can try that. I cannot jeopardizes my figure. I want to trust, but I've been betrayed in the past. Maybe after more missions are done, we can bloom more goodwill."

Downstairs:
Cimri is the first down stairs and exclaims, "Holy Mackerel, pardon me, look at all this banquet. Guys, we got the goods. And over there, seems to be chest on that table. Anyone want to eat first or get our pay first?"

While there is the chest, it is not alone included in the ground floor is eight bottles of a fine Wiscrani barbera wine, several loaves of fresh bread, garlic-flavored butter, and a variety of smoked fish and boar’s meat. It’s a veritable feast, and among the best food Cimri—and likely many of the PCs—have ever had in their lives.

Even the kitchen, which was unlooked at in Cimri's rush for everyone to go upstairs, while still burned texture in the wood: it has tea pots, cutery, and other odd and ends expected in a kitchen. Lady Holy could probably even make that tea she wanted.

The bathrooms are still blocked by debris (1 hour to clear ground floor) while another to cleave Master bath, if any of you were inclined.

Holly decided to make the tea she wanted earlier. It had been a long day, and the reek of the tannery hung on her silk clothes. She called to the others, "I'm going to have that tea now, and I'd like to eat before opening the chest. Let us feast and be marry, for life is short and there are good things to enjoy!" The food looked delicious, and she was starving. After boiling the tea, she added sugar until it could not hold any more, then sat down with the others. She grabbed a small glass of wine in addition to a glass for the hot tea, and loaded up her plate with a little bit of everything. Holly's plan was to begin work on clearing the bathrooms as soon as she received her payment. She was distasteful of the idea that she had to get her hands dirty, but she loved baths. Sedition. That was a fearsome word. Not enough to wipe away Yllada's discomfort at how the mission had been conducted, but it went some way towards providing satisfying reasoning for it.

(Assuming he was telling the truth, of course. Razelago's motives were something that would certainly bare further scrutiny.)

But for the moment, Yllada could work within that reasoning. She followed the thief and the rest of the party downstairs.

The sight of the tablespread was nearly enough to stop the woman in her tracks. It was, certainly, one of the richest feasts Yllada had ever seen; almost decadently so. The smell of fish was familiar; she remembered the fish her parents reeled in to cook. The meat was a stranger smell, and she uncorked a bottle of wine to sniff it with more than a little wariness.

Either Razelago had resources to burn and wanted to impress them, or the Cheliax lived a very different life. Between the meal, and the Thrune girl's comments of silk curtains and tea, Yllada wasn't quite sure which was the more likely possibility.

"Someone who could be turned with some words is someone who didn't have much conviction to begin with," she commented dryly. "Spell or otherwise."

Both Holly and the imposing male set to the meal before them. Yllada remained standing. Part of it was caution -best to let another eat the meals first, in case Razelago was less genial than he claimed- but part of it was...

Awkwardness was probably the best word for it. The feast was intended as a celebration; Holly toasted to being merry. Neither were things which came easily to the Inquisitor.

Niccolo had stopped short as soon as he entered the room, and was looking over everything and everyone with a critical eye. He let a question hang in the air: "There's only one person besides us in this building and the kitchen is still filthy. So where did the food come from?"

"... Arguments? You plan to argue at rebels?"

What an utterly ridiculous notion. Yllada was stunned at the thought. In Nidal...well, things were different in Nidal. The nobles shared the Chelaxian delight of high living, but the idea that the Umbral Court would allow a rebellion to progress to being an actual threat to the nation was absurd.

Then again, in Nidal, people knew their place; the word of the Umbral Court was virtually sancrosanct. The people of Nidal served Zon-Kuthon. They knew the price of disobediance was one that was paid for with flesh and blood.

Trust a Chelaxian to try to negotiate with revolutionaries, as if she were writing a contract.

"Order is all. We agree on that. But you believe people will be swayed by empty promises and magic words. They will not. Either your promises will be fulfilled, and know they can make demands, or they won't, and they will know you for a liar. They must be taught to accept the way of things. That is the way of Zon-Kuthon. When a criminal has felt the spikes tear his skin and acknowledges it as justice...that is when order and tradition will be restored.

"Does your slave ask concessions? Does he demand paid leave, and time off? No. Because he knows his place." The inquisitor paused, and her eyes narrowed, the neutral tone dropping a shade. But she continued in that soft voice. "But if your behaviour tonight is how you usually treat him, you are too liberal with your threats and beatings. A broken creature is little more use than a resentful one. Cruelty is never a necesity. When one is punished, it must be inevitable and proportionate. Constancy of pain is neither lesson nor deterrent."

Cimri listens to the debates while eating a haunch of boar, " While I did like how that spell made Louslik more manageable, I doubt every foe will fall for it. Don't spells sometimes fail?" Cimri said toward Lady Holly.

She didn't really pay attention too much theology or politics, but he knew people, sometimes despite all your work, they might need to be put down.

"About the place, I've taken to sleeping on the couch since my Aunt was giving me beef. I haven't been cleaning. Sorry about the mess. Granted, most of the house was like this, but I could have done more." Cimri said with a smile.

Niccolo:

The chest radiates faint magic. The food does not.

Satisfied, Niccolo sits down and takes a bite out of... he's honestly not sure. It's made with eggs, he thinks, and some kind of spicy pepper. While he eats, he listens carefully to the debate.

"I disagree with your premise, Yllada, though I agree with your details. Power is all, whatever clothes it walks in. The weak serve the strong, creations their creator, and thus a natural 'Order' arises out of chaos. But it is a consequence, a stream and not a spring. In this order all things have a place, but that place is decided by the more powerful. If Lady Thrune should decide that her slave's purpose is to be broken, perhaps for the encouragement of others, perhaps for her own entertainment, that is her prerogative - though I agree that I would see it as a a waste. And she would not be cruel in doing so: power exists to enforce the whims of the powerful regardless of their motives; to call its exercise 'cruel' is meaningless. 'Wasteful', yes, the exercise of power can be that and, if the powerful lack so much discipline that they lose their station, then all is as it should be."

He turns to address the Lady Thrune.

"You, Lady, also miss the point of power - though from a different direction. You fear the masses; you lack confidence that the institution, forged in the fires of Hell and which you are a part of, could survive the torches of the peasantry." He pulls one of his few coins from his pouch, turning it. "Power is the pentagram; the will to use it is your aunt's face. You focus on that latter half; on convincing the people that they have less power than they do and that they should give away what power they have. But this is temporary, mere smoke to true power's fire, and eventually you will be called to prove your dominance or fall."

Addressing the table as a whole:

"The paradox of power is that it exists in the exercising of it, whether that be punishment or mercy. And so we are here, to exercise power, to be the mailed hand of our superiors, and perhaps to gain power for ourselves. As is our purpose, and as it should be."

Garrick went back for a second helping of boar and a glass of wine while the others discussed philosophy. That one of their number was addressed as "Lady Thrune" gave him pause. Her 'aunt', he said. He no longer felt like telling her how irritating she was getting. Instead he directed his next question to Niccolo: "If you don't mind me asking, what kind of power do you possess? It'd seem a little grandiose to me, for someone to get all poetic about the nature of power without having held it. But I don't know your story," he conceded in advance.

"I possess what power the Lord of Flies has seen fit to grant me, in addition to my own strength of arms." He doesn't look insulted at all. "And I'm flattered you think my words poetry, but they largely belong to another - a traveling preacher and rag-picker, who's domain was all that he saw and nothing more. Yourself?" Talking about the preacher twitches the corners of his lips up into a smile for just a second; a smile at a private joke.

"Wait, my aunt is the sheriff in town, not Razelago. Hope I not confused you there. I mean, she has a power of a sort, but she was way too bossy for me. Mr. Razelago, he gets me, gives me no curfew, nice digs, little perks here and there and money. Don't get me wrong, I still love my aunt, but I can't stand her. Family thing I think. You guys have given a lot to time thinking about power." Cimri says as she drinks her glass of wine.

Morvius takes a bit of repast for himself. "Some of us have been trained to think about nothing but power and how it operates since we were born. It is power that keeps us safe, keeps us in our positions. To show weakness is to allow your enemies to have power over you. I think Niccolo has the most accurate perception of all of this, though perhaps a bit cynical overall."

Lady Holly Thrune turned to Yllada, "I'll have you know that I know there is a place for intimidation and physical punishment--for those with strong wills. Idiot was a rebellious slave, and I cowed him into submission. Now, I must only threaten the use of my power and he obeys. Power is an art."

Turning to Cmiri, she said, "I am Lady Holly Thrune, daughter of Archduchess Mary Thrune and Niece of the Infernal Grand Majestor, Abrogail Thrune."

"Threat should be unnecessary. Your slave should obey you because that is his role. If he still hasn't learnt that, then he really is an idiot, or you were a poor teacher.

"Or maybe things are just different here," she admitted. "Power may be a stream in Cheliax, but in Nidal, we still know what well it springs from."

She didn't offer her other suspicion; that the authority in Cheliax was so weak as a cause of the Thrune's war. Oh, they had performed well, pulled themselves to the top of society. Nidal and Cheliax both benefited from Queen Abrogail; Yllada would rather see the rebels broken than the Infernal Majestrix dethroned.

But, if the government could be decided by the outcome of a war once, why not again? Thrune should have seized the throne, unquestioned and absolute; instead, they courted rebellion from their coronation, dared to be overthrown.

Or maybe, she allowed, that was a foreigners perspective. The Umbral Court of Nidal had never been overthrown, after all; even under servitude to Cheliax, the Nidalese peoples knew who they served. Of course, she didn't say any of that. It would not, she thought, be diplomatic.

"Cynicism and optimism are just moods," Yllada offered instead, sitting with a half-hearted shrug. "Power and the law are inviolate. Reality will be as it will be."

She poured a glass of wine; a small one. Measured and precise.

"But I'll admit to curiosity," she allowed. "The seven of us make for an unusual grouping. At least two countries, three gods, and as many different philosophies besides. From what Razelago said, we might be working together for some time. And he finds the situation behind our employment delicate. It might be wise for us to reach an...understanding."

Trust was a word too far; Yllada barely trusted those she had known her entire life. She wasn't about to place that trust in an ecclectic group of strangers.

...but arguments would get them nowhere, except a grave, and one had to sleep sometime. Better to hash things out now.

"What is it we want," Yllada asked aloud. "Better we are all aware of that going forward. I want to root out corruption, wherever it may be. I don't expect that sentiment to be shared, but I'd prefer to know if it's coin or ideology that's driving this...assembly.".

"Razelago didn't strike me as the type to keep chains lying around," the inquisitor said dryly, measuring it. Plain, unadorned, and forged of thick, dark links. She gave it a lazy, half swing, measuring the balance.

Excellant,' she thought. She ran a palm over one of the spikes, testing it. Sharp . The length of it. Acceptable.

This raised questions. It wasn't as if Yllada hid her weapon, or her allegiance; the same could be said for Morvius' blade, or the giant's spear. But to have had so many weapons forged, and with such specificity...

Then again, it wasn't as if Yllada believed the group had been chosen as random. Pitting a child of the Thrune blood against the enemies of her house helt far too calculated for that.

Well. Either way, Ullada wouldn't begrudge her weapon. After al, like Razelago, it was a tool. And Yllada would make use of any tool to scourge the unworthy.

Assuming you started right away with cleaning bottom debris, the bottom floor bath is accessible after an hours work. Luckily, it seems nothing fell from the ceiling, bathroom while dusty from unused is largely useable. The tub while small seems useable. Pipes even work from sink.

Sadly, the upper floor bathroom is another story as once debris is moved, it seems the ceiling did fall in certain parts. The master tub looks dirty but is huge enough for a giant or three halfings. Maybe it was filled with water and never unplugged. If you reach down to drain it, who knows it might work.

Of course the Thrune girl woud demand the master bathroom. A few hours in her company had been enough to convince Yllada that, like pain, that was inevitable.

She was welcome to it. The inquisitor twisted her neck, feeling an unpleasent -though never unwelcome- twinge in it. She had done enough cleaning in her youth to know that that tedium was it's own sort of pain, and liking it or not wouldn't change the fact it needed to be done.

It did not, however, need to be done in full armor. Clearing rubble would be irritating enough without the added weight and drag of scale mail.

Perhaps it was surprising to see the inquisitor in a jacket and skirt. Perhaps not; even if the jacket and skirt weren't slashed with fabric in Nidalese read, even if she weren't wearing a pendant of a skull wreathed in chains, her expression was far from what one could call sociable. Grim, was closer to the truth in a way; passive closer still. She had attended the task of clearing the rubble with much the same lack of enthusiasm as she had the raid at Louslik's tannery, as if both were mere chores to be endured.

At last, she broached the topic. "There's one bath. And it looks too small to share." The dry statement was to Kyronak and Garrick; no doubt Morvius, as nobility, would prefer the master after Thrune had finished. "So who goes fir-"

The hideous screeching from the master bathroom silenced the Inquisitor immediatly. Yllada frowned.
When the screeching was followed by cries of 'Thrune', 'Revenge' and 'Attack', that frown became a quiet curse.

She stomped into the room...and the sight of the creature was enough to give the inquisitor moment to pause.

More for how unexpected it was than anything else. "What did you do," she demanded, stepping up next to Holly. She had kept her frustration about the Thrune girl discrete; now she was wearing her irritation openly.

At least she had Razelago's black chain at hand. How fortunate, she thought, unwimding it. It felt anything but. From the sounds of things, the creature in the tub did not have cause to love the Thrunes. Razelago placing the party in this hovel suddenly became a suspect proposition.

Something to consider at another time. Yllada eyed the creature, trying to take the measure of it.

I figure, heavy rubble cleaning, probably wouldn't wear the armor. So, AC is 10, speed now 30.

Morvius' attitude might have been flippant. It also wasn't inaccurate. The creature had made a taken effort to discuss between Holly and the others. Yllada wonder whether or not Holly realised how easily Kyronak and her could have left her to her fate.

The medals might have been a small taken of that acknowledgement. Or maybe she was playing at being her great-aunt. Either way, Yllada took the box, driven more by a morbid sense of curiosity than anything else.

"Comfort is a luxury, but a room with a roof is better than an alley and cheaper than an inn."

When Yllada is alone, she's take out the medals and examine them. Considering their history, and the fact their last owner turned out to be an undead monster, she's keep on seeing if they have any trick she should be wary of. So...Arcana.

Yllada:

There is nothing arcane about the tarnished medals as far as you know. But they still mildly shiny. Could fetch a good price to an antique dealer. For a second, it seemed they still hissed like they were in boiling water, but it might just be your imagination.

Yllada turned the medals over, frowning. Nothing; for an artifact in a dillapidated building haunted by a monster, the Inquisitor had expected something...more.

"Hrm." She scrutinised them, and the box, thinking.a lost legacy from an ancient war, and a lost noble; they might be worth something, maybe. But then, Yllada didn't care much for coin. Razelago's pay should handle that for the foreseeable future.

So, what she was left with was some pieces of metal, and a nice box. Hardly worth anything, barely worth the effort of selling them on, even less worth the effort of carrying them around.

Regardless, after a moment thought, she found herself pocketing the box in her bacpack. Not quite reasonable, bit throwing it away would offend Lady Holly, and that would be more trouble than it was worth.

A late night robbery, and a battle with a..thing. Yllada was far too tired, and probably imagining things. She frowned, rolling over, and trying to get some modicrum of rest.

Morvius really was the odd one out. Niccolo, Garrick, Kyronak, Cimri... there was a certain roughness, an untidiness to them. Even to the inquisitor herself; Yllada was not shy or ignorant of underhanded work, even if she dislike it.

Assuming no objections, Cimri follows the others back upstairs, when they arrive at the door, she knocks, "We are here , Boss."

The room is almost like it was before*, but a small, black lacquered box sits on the table before the paper screens.

“With the number of veterans who live in town, it’s not surprising that there’s a church of Iomedae in Longacre. But there might not be one much longer if Tileavia Allamar, its priestess, does what she has in mind.”

Razelago’s silhouette clasps shadowy hands. “There’s growing unrest in the empire, and not just in Pezzack and along the Hellcoast. Many of Iomedae’s faithful have begun speaking more boldly of the monarchy’s vices and the rights of citizens. They seem to believe this is Andoran and that the people have only to reach out to seize power. But they are wrong. This is Cheliax, not Andoran, and we know where true power lies, don't we."

Cimri shakes her head in agreement. Then Razelago continues:
“Fifth Sword Knight Allamar is gathering all who will listen for a sermon in front of her church this afternoon— only two short hours from now. I don’t know what she has in mind, but I suspect some revolutionary claptrap that can only sow the seeds of confusion and frustration among Longacre’s citizens. That is contrary to my wishes. So I’d like you to attend the rally. In the box are sashes marked with the insignia of Archbaron Fex. Wear them, remind people that the lord of this town is not without supporters, and see what transpires. Afterward, Cimri will report back to me. In return, you will all receive double what you did last night. That is all I require. Any questions?"

Cimri right away answers, "Works for me, boss. I'm up for it." She whispers to you all, " Easy money, doesn't sound like an issue, why not" . She picks up and opens the box then starts putting on her sash from inside.

*Remind of room from last time:

Toppled bookshelves, a table, and some chairs half-covered in ivy suggest this room was once a library. The ashes and pulp of burned, waterlogged books lay heaped amid fallen furniture, creating a large nest of sorts against one wall. A set of folding paper screens divides the room. A lantern flickers on the opposite side, projecting the silhouette of a desk and high-backed chair upon the thin paper.

"What an odd thing to say. I don't believe I said I was dedicated to the Thrune family to begin with."

Yllada had thought that she had made her position quite clear on that point. The Thrune family were to be respected as the font of authority, rebellion to that authority crossed... but respect was not fealty, and if Yllada was to swear allegiance to anyone of Cheliax, it wouldn't be the Thrune.

Niccolo didn't notice anything special about the crowd yet, though he was sure it was about hundred if not more. The sheriff's conversation seemed normal to him.

Lady Holly:

She seemed unaligned, but she didn't seem a strong Asmodean if she was one.

Sheriff to Cimri regarding Lady Holly, "Are you sure your friend is all right? That seems rather far fetched."
Cimri, "Well, one can't choose friends sometimes."

Sheriff, "Well, I'll be nearby if you need me." She walks off with her entourage walking around the crowd lookinbgf for trouble.

The time has passed as suddenly, Tileavia Allamar, Fifth Sword Knight of Iomedae, appears on one of the church’s balconies, dressed in the yellow-trimmed white cassock of her faith, and addresses the crowd in a clear, strong voice.

"Friends and neighbors, I have wondrous tidings to share! We have all known hardships in our lives—needless sorrows, injustice, even cruelty. Indeed, such is the struggle of all who live. But many among us have known more than our share.
Many among us have shouldered burdens laid upon them not by the Inheritor, but by those who would curse her name and taunt her faithful.
“But today, I bear a missive from champions of Iomedae’s faith, heralds of the goddess’s will, who know your troubles and would see them end.”

Allamar gestures to her twin sons, Loran and Lacall, who carry a box swaddled in white linen between them and
place it on the table in front of the church. The priestess unfurls a rolled parchment and again raises her voice,"
“I received this letter last night:
“‘People of Longacre! The time of your redemption is at hand. When the song of the Inheritor rises, you all must choose: live as complacent vassals of corruption and evil, or embrace honor and claim the glory that is your right. The Glorious Reclamation gives you a choice.’
“Signed, ‘Lencia Visserene, Knight-Inheritor of the Glorious Reclamation.’
“Friends, it is up to us to restore the worship of Iomedae to its proper place in Cheliax and reclaim our nation in the name of the Inheritor. But we have been given a sign—a sign that the ‘Angel Knight’ has come to Longacre to lead us to glory!"

Allamar’s sons lift the linen and box lid, revealing an ornate silver helmet sculpted with angelic features and a
halo of curls. The faceplate’s eyeless hollows stare sternly into the crowd.

Once Allamar finishes her announcement, she turns and reenters the temple, leaving the crowd with plenty
of questions about the Glorious Reclamation and this “Angel Knight,” Lencia Visserene. Allamar’s sons remain
in the churchyard to give the people a good look at the helmet.

Some people immediately drift away following the sermon, but several pockets of curious and upset
townspeople remain in the square to get a closer look at the silver helmet in the churchyard and muse on
the meaning of the priestess’s message, gathering in larger clusters than before.

Anyone with a good check of Sleight of Hand or stealth check (DC 14) can attempt to steal the helmet IF they make a distraction first as the Sheriff is watching.

Cimri remarks, "Guess Razelago was pretty spot on. Um, Lady Holly, I don't think you should have told my Aunt about being hired. Sometimes silence can be better than words, but cats out of the bag I guess."

Garrick just looked on, unsure of what to do. Sedition was brewing, that was plain, but he was certainly not the type to try and sway the crowd in the other direction. One of the twins goes into the door way looking for a sound, "Did you hear that bro?"

"No, Bro, we got a duty to watch the helm. Sigh, my brother..."

Niccolo's arrival makes Lacall stand straight, "You may look at the helm up close, but please no touching. May I ask what faith you hail?"

Morvius takes a swig of shield extract before taking any further action. This whole situation looked like it had the potential to get violent, and he was loathe to be injured in a street brawl. It would certainly be interesting if things went that way, but for now, he was content to see what Niccolo could do.

Baalzebul. Yllada had recognised the symbol at the first, but having that thought confirmed was pleasent. The Lord of Flies was more pleasing company than Iomeade after all...

They seemed resolute in their beliefs. That was, perhaps, disappointing. Yllada was not one of ger fellow, and she would take no especial joy in breaking those convictions.

She turned from those thoughts, to her...allies, in the crowd. One of which seemed to be marching towards the clerics.

Don't interrupt,, she thought darkly, part silent-prayer. An aggressive move yet could be disastrous...
And she herself was more than curious about the Warpriests Tale.

If anyone tries to heckles, interrupt, or cut Niccolo's story short, want Yllada to use Intimidate to hackles them down so "We can hear the rest of it"

There was the briefest hesitation as Niccolo stepped across the threshold of the temple. His palms had started to sweat; he scratched nervously at his stubble but his feet were firm as he climbed the stairs. He remembered his last sea of faces - standing in line, watching his friends be punished one by one and waiting for his turn. Shuffling forward, swearing to himself he wouldn't scream, wouldn't give them the satisfaction. Failing miserably, crying, voiding himself to the Mother Superior's tender ministrations; his humiliation on display for all to see.

Stepping onto the balcony, he saw the assembled crowd turn to look at the red-sashed man standing above Iomedae's holy symbol. His face went white and, like a drowning man, he held tight to the railing. "M-My -" he coughed, clearing his throat. A hint of read crept into his cheeks, and he started again: "My name is Niccolo. I am an orphan and, though I serve our Lords in Hell, my family has not always done so. My parents were blessed champions - of Iomedae." His voice broke here. These were not happy memories. "Wh-When the hoards of Belkzen swept down with the storm's fury, they held the line. Those around them..." he swallowed nervously, "...did not. Those men, devotees of this pretender to righteousness all, fled and left my parents to die. Many of you are soldiers! How often did you lie awake at night, praying to any god that would listen that you would see your family again? And now you would bring that war to your very homes on the empty words of these cowards and traitors? You would and lay down your families for their cause, for this Knight-Inheritor's glory, for the momentary pleasure of spiting your rightful commanders? I have no faith in their soft-lit tyranny, in their pretender god, and neither should you!"

At that last, his voice rose to a fever pitch and he stepped away from the balcony, taking a few shivered breaths to steady himself. His stomach churned, and his shoulder had started to ache again. He took some small comfort in that, and in the weight of the icon on his chest. The lines have been drawn, then. They know now their cause, and it's price. We will know, soon, if they are willing to pay it.

Morvius might not be the most adept perofrmer himself, but he had read enough on dramatic theory to know when an appropriate moment presented itself. During Niccolo's speech, he withdraws from the crowd and makes his way to the delivery cart. As the speech comes to a conclusion, Morvius takes flint and steel out of his pocket, and sets the casks of wood tar on fire, then rolls them into the crowd!

Niccolo had known loss, and pain. It was a little disappointing, but there were many who fled from Zon-Kuthon's touch into the embrace of another god. In the meantime, it did nothing to stymy the inquisitor's curiosity in the man...

Her musings were, however, interrupted by the sudden shout from within the crowd, which began to scatter. It took the woman a second to spot the fire starting to spread across the square.

Okay, so... Hp 1. I can live with that. Barely.

Yllada growled batting at the flames. The fact that that meant she was hitting herself was not lost upon the inquisitor, but it felt deserved.

It was, of course, natural for people to panic at the sight of fire, more so when one was themselves alight. But still. Why should a follower of Zon-Kuthon fear such a thing? Yllada was no stranger to steel and flame. She ought to have embraced this; was this churning flame not a crucible?

Instead, she was trying to put it out. She bit her lip sharp, drawing blood. Her own lack of faith was a disappointment, and punishment would be exacted for it.

She knelt down, scooping some of the dirt. Niccolo's magic had been widespread, some of it splashing over her and the crowd, and so.e falling to watch the earth. She slashed the sudden soul across her arms, trying to both smother and down the fire...

And after a few moment, Yllada was left kneeling in the dirt, clothes single, forearm burned, hair and skirt and skin drenched, but the fire -the physical one, at least- thoroughly extinguished.

Healing magic, she thought. Her teeth grit themselves with an unexpected Fury's, both at the Sword Knight so casual undoing Zon-Kuthonn's touch...and at her body for yielding to it.

A slower pace would also, she grudgingly admitted, be welcome. Healing aside, she still felt sore from the flames. She wrapping her arms in her cloak, hiding the scarification as much as anything else, and felt the symbol of Zon-Kuthon on her chest.

When she got her hands on the one responsible...

Yllada took a seat at the house. That was a grudging admission of the discomfort she was in.

That only partly accounted for the dark expression brewing on her face. Morvius' confession accounted for the rest.

She wanted restoring the worship of Iomedae to its proper place in Cheliax or reclaim our nation in the name of their god. Niccolo here decided to counter with his own speech. It was nice: you'd have liked it. Oh. then Morvius burned the whole crowd, us included, in a fire (she winks at Morvius before continuing). It wasn't a pleasant event at that point. During we all were on fire, Lady Holly here decided to steal the Angel Knight's helm."

“That’s a more dramatic move than I’d expect from a country priestess—I’m impressed. Tileavia Allamar might be more interesting than I’d thought. It’s the helmet and this ‘Angel Knight’ I’m curious about, though. I’ve heard rumors of the Glorious Reclamation. An overzealous mob of Iomedaean fanatics calling for a nationwide revolution, as if there was any hope of that. Still, Archbaron Fex might find this information valuable.

He is somewhat less impressed with the bag of gold. The idea of being paid an actual salary was foreign. Grubbing over actual coins was best left to merchants and commoners. Those of his class were expected to measure their wealth in land and heirlooms, to measure liquidity in ledgers as opposed to actual gold. Still, he was living without familial support at the moment, and certainly could not reject coin when it came. It would be best to bury such counterproductive prejudices for the time being.

Garrick pocketed his gold with a grin like the cat who'd just eaten the canary, and reclined on one of the chairs in the parlor.

"So, ever wonder what the Angel Knight looks like without her or his helmet? You know since we stole it".

"Does this Knight preach against vanity? With a name like that, somehow I doubt it, so my guess is that this Knight is quite the looker. No one'll care how pious he is, he can't call himself that if he looks like a ****in' goblin."

Morvius accompanies Kyronak on the shopping trip for some better armor. While serviceable, his current attire wasn't quite up to standards. He trades it in for some that is proudly shown as a masterwork piece, supple yet protective, and dyed in colors appropriate for the nation.

The next morning, Morvius' curiosity impels him to quick action. A message directly from the Archbaron could prove interesting.

When Yllada emerged from her sleeping quarters that morning, it was wearing an expression that seemed more gaunt and inflexible than ever. The inquisitor hadn't rested much; the opposite, actually. She had spent most of the night in prayer to Zon-Kuthon.

Of course, unlike other gods, mere words were of little value to the midnight prince. Or to Yllada herself.

Two days, running errands for Razelago. The inquisitor chain was settling by her hip. The last few days had been doing an exceptional job of trying her patience.

For Razelago's sake, the message had better be worth it...

Niccolo rose and settled his horse into its newly-christened armor - the leather's former allegiances obscured by black burn marks. His holy symbol had made for an effective brand.

The Ash House's titular smell was beginning to make way for the scents of people and food; someone - probably 'Lemmy' - had made breakfast. Time for that later, though, for now he was almost late for a meeting.

Cimri answers Holly, "We shall see, miss."

When the PCs are gathered and follow Cimri, we enter the office:
"We are here, sir. Let us know your message."

“Nothing more than an errand today, but one well suited to your skills. I met with the Archbaron last night.”
Razelago’s silhouette inclines a hand toward a stack of rolled parchments on the table. “
He has issued several new decrees that he’d like posted across town to inform the citizenry.”

"Post these decrees at the notice post in the church square, the jail, the Last Stand Tavern, and the Castle Gate. And while you’re at the jail, stop by the sheriff’s office. The Archbaron has a second decree for you to deliver.”
Razelago’s shadow tilts toward Cimri, who picks up a folded page from the table. “One that dismisses Rhona Staelish as the sheriff of Longacre."
Cimri gasps and nods.
“You have until noon today. Perform as reliably as you have in your last two tasks, and I’ll pay what we agreed upon for your first task. If this assignment goes smoothly, the Archbaron would like to meet with you. It sounds as though he might soon have some civil positions to fill, Oh, and if you have questions ask. Feel free to read the decree..”

The Decree

All Citizens of and Visitors to the Town of Longacre,
By Order of His Lordship Darellus Fex, Archbaron of Longacre, and in accordance with the wishes of Her Infernal Majestrix, Queen Abrogail II of the Thrice-Damned House of Thrune, the following decrees are now in effect:

Longacre’s western gate, known as the Castle Gate, is closed until further notice. All travel into and out of Longacre must employ the north or south gates and be officially sanctioned. Only the archbaron’s agents, sanctioned local businesses, or those displaying a writ of passage bearing the seal of House Fex, will be granted passage. All others must obtain a writ from the Longacre notary or do business elsewhere.

Longacre citizens shall not congregate in groups numbering greater than six in private, or in numbers greater than twelve in public. Exceptions will be made only for families with more than six members or for individuals undertaking the natural course of their business. Gatherings for the purposes of celebration, education, or religion are not exempt from this order.

A curfew is now in effect. From the hour after dusk to the hour before dawn, no citizen of Longacre is allowed upon the town’s streets without a writ of exception bearing the seal of House Fex. The archbaron’s agents and sanctioned local businesses are exempt from this order. Those seeking a writ of exception may apply at the Longacre Notary.

Any persons found in violation of these mandates or any other laws and sanctions of Longacre will be considered seditious agents and are subject to questioning, imprisonment, and summary judgment by the Archbaron of Longacre and officials of the town government.
For the prosperity of Longacre, the protection of the Empire, and the glory of House Thrune,
Darellus Fex,
Archbaron of Longacre

Taking a decree, Niccolo takes a moment to read it. He raises an eyebrow. "I presume the Church of Asmodeus and those of his subordinates are exempt from this?"

Holly took a decree and awaited an answer to Niccolo's question. She wondered the same.

Morvius takes the time to properly outfit himself for going out. He applies his cologne and consults his books. Taking a copy of the decree, he carefully adds it to the book of letters. One never knew when the signature of an archbaron could come in handy.

The sound of a civil position was actually quite enticing to Morvius. An idea had been forming since he had come to Longacre, and had come together last night with the bag of coin. There was great wealth in the cities, but little access to capital. The matter was even worse in the rural areas of the country, such as where Morvius hailed from. The church of Abadar did a fine job, but their religious function was perhaps standing in the way of profit. With the right funding and official support, one could form a rival bank and accumulate great wealth, eventually spreading to other cities and industries. Longacre seemed a fine place to start.

Applying cologne, consulting blue book and book of letters. Overall a +6 to diplomacy, +2 to know local, and +2 to bluff.

You see the silhouette of Razelago give a small chuckle
"They will still need a writ of exemption, but I bet it will be a guarantee it will be given. As long as the Archbaron is in good standing with those subordinates, of course. And before you ask, these decrees are binding until the Archbaron changes his mind. Likely when this silly Glorious Reclamation talk has died down. "

Cimri asks, "I'm not sure, but maybe she was asking if we were exempt?"

Razelago pauses, before exclaiming, "I can't yet given thought to that. So not as yet. So do not be out past dark. But likely our future meeting with the Archbaron will exempt you all if you perform this deed I have given you without major issue... try not to set the rest of town on fire."

"An idea I have is to put on a concert. If we can make the town forget all about the rebellion with some acting and fine food and drink, we can make them not WANT to fight. Today may not be the best day, but I would love to brighten people's spirits up a little and maybe bring in some revenue with ticket sales. What do y'all think?"

Morvius gives a long, hard stare at the Thrune. "Absolutely not. The town is halfway to rebellion, and you want to throw a damn party." He shakes his head with a dumfounded look on his face.

"Anyways, Razelago, I can promise to try to avoid any more inflammatory incidents. I have plans for this town and its improvement."

"I think few of us here are singers or performers, but that is beside the point. Your brother has forbidden gatherings of over twelve people." Niccolo turns to Razelago. "Very well. This mission, and then we see behind this veil of yours."

After they had all left the room, Niccolo speaks up. "We should move as a group - numbers send a message all of their own."

Cimri pips in, "Where do you want to check first? We can do the church, I'm sure that Priestess will be happy when we post it. We can deal with my aunt at the jail. We can have a drink before upsetting the Last Stand Tavern; I doubt he'll serve us after. Also be a jerk to whoever runs the Castle Gate."

"The church first, I think. It's only polite. And we should save your aunt for last; we may need her support before the day is out."
