Before all of the errata, how did those spells function?

You can find the 3.0 versions of the spells in the 3.0 SRD, which is available for free online here (http://www.dragon.ee/30srd/).

If you're talking about errata taking the spells from 3.5 to errata'd 3.5, then I don't think those spells changed much. You can see the changes hereabouts (http://archive.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/errata). Except for baleful, which was totally replaced, anyway. PaO just had the list of spells it could emulate altered, shapechange had its HD limit halved, baleful had the aforementioned total changes, and the rest seemed to stay the same.
