I know this is a problem that comes up more often, but I need it straightened out again for a new player. The text of the Illumian race, although a little ambiguous, seems to declare that an illumian can only ever have two sigils.
The problem is that any image depicting an illumian has... well, more than two. Sometimes up to seven, from what I can see. Is this just artistic licence, or what exactly is going on here? Or is it really true that multiclassing can give more than two sigils and all depicted illumians are Epic and dip-crazy?

An illumian has two -power- sigils but also has purely cosmetic sigils beyond those two. That clarify matters?

At some point in development, illumians had two sigils at 1st level and gained another at every 5th level (http://web.archive.org/web/20041207024604/http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/iw/20041114b&page=2). That page has since been edited (http://archive.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/iw/20041114b&page=2), but there are still a few references to the old stats (http://archive.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ag/20041217a) left on the Wizards site.

An Illumian has an array of luminous sigils that orbit their heads. Some of these are more brightly lit and referred to as power sigils, which grant bonuses. The Subtle Sigil feat affects all sigils, not just power sigils.
