I'm amazed nobodys made a thread like this already, or maybe im just stupid...if anyone has made a thread like this plz tell me...if not...continue with your sorry lives...

What's your favourite character? Please include; their name, why, what you think their best moment was, and a link to that moment.

My favourite is either xykon, or redcloak, and i personally liked the scene where they almost died...found here (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0462.html)

A reasonable nominee is

Miko
http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0215.html
and
http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0270.html

Miko is a character that is there to be hated, and that makes her very useful, both when she is bold and when she is buffoon. I feel the writer made a serious error writing her out of the story instead of having her join the party.

I can't decide I like them all too much. Every character is hilarious in their own way.

My favorite is Elan. Though I daresay I'm not bothering to find a favorite moment.

It's hard to pick a favorite in this comic... they all have their moments to shine and then you think "ohmigodd! that [insert character name] is tha bomb!"

some more than others though... like Belkar, Elan, Thog, Xykon and Lord Shojo...

Ey, if Xykon's plans to become world emperor fail, he can allways become a standup comedian... "Terrible evening everyone, I'm Xykon the Lich! You're gonna laugh so hard that you're all gonna die and then I'll raise you as my undead slaves! -... no, that was serious, come on! don't laugh at my threats! fine, Meteor swarm"

I totaly agree. I really liked Miko and her death has made this comic slightly less incredible.

As for favorite character, I don't see how he wasn't mentioned befor - Belkar! I don't think I need to explain why he's the best.

He's got so many "good moments", hard to choose. And yet:
Best moment (more like "Best line"): http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0320.html (Panel 5 if you had a doubt.)

I absolutely love V. She's so smart, yet so clueless in some cases, and the explosive ruins thing is awesome. (It also helps that I generally prefer wizards.)

Belkar is also pretty cool. I usually prefer more intelligent characters, but his pyschotic "let's set something on fire" approach is great.

Honorable mention goes to Redcloak and Xykon.

Belkar. He won my heart 3rd comic.

Miko

Miko is a character that is there to be hated, and that makes her very useful, both when she is bold and when she is buffoon. I feel the writer made a serious error writing her out of the story instead of having her join the party.

I liked Miko, but I don't think Rich made an error in writing her out, if she really has been written out. In a lot of ways, she was dominating the forums discussions, and while that didn't bother me, this wasn't necessarily her story. I think she will show up again at some point: Rich has stated in No Cure for the Paladin Blues that Miko will be a part of the story until the end. Of course, this could mean that she'll simply appear once more close to the end, or rarely as a spectral entity such as a ghost.

My top five favorite characters are:

5. Redcloak
4. Elan
3. Durkon
2. Miko

And my favorite being

Roy Greenhilt.

Roy is my favorite simply because of the amount of depth I feel there is to the character. Of all the characters within the strip, I think Roy has been the one to mature the most of the group, as it should be considering he's the protagonist of the story. I think one of the telling moments of his maturation is when he's talking to Xykon during their fight on the zombie dragon, when he proclaims his reason for wanting to destroy Xykon isn't necessarily based entirely around his inherited blood oath, but the fact that Xykon himself offends him due to what he is and the cruelty and pain he would cause.

It was at that moment, really, that I think Roy had achieved one of the things he truly wanted: full independence from his father. While he was still striving towards the goal Eugene basically foisted upon him due to not having realized a blood oath was passed on to the next of kin, he was no longer moving towards it because of the blood oath. Rather, he had decided to continue towards it because it was what he felt it was the right thing to do, and thus, what he should do. While he pursued Xykon's destruction due to the blood oath, Eugene still had some say in how Roy's life would be shaped. In finding his own reason for continuing to pursue Xykon, Roy has truly become independent of Eugene.

That's my thought on the matter, at least.

Inside the Order

#1. Elan the Bard :elan:

Favorite moment: There are SOOOOO many great Elan moments, but I have to say strips #386-400. Those rocked.

Why: He is just so fun to read, he really is a child at heart, but he always tries to do the right thing, and he is SUCH a funny character. Elan rocks.

#2. Belkar Bitterleaf :belkar:

Favorite moment: http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0435.html There are lots, but this one sticks out in my memory. But another favorite is strip 3, actually.

Why: Usually I hate characters that are evil and savor taking away others' lives, but Rich Burlew can pull off this type of character masterfully, as an antagonist or even a protagonist. Belkar in particular is simply hilarious.

#3. Haley Starshine :haley:

Favorite moment: http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0393.html, http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0396.html, http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0400.html, http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0428.html,
http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0470.html

Why: She is a terrific dramatic character, and my favorite female in the series by far. She has several noticeable flaws or problems, but these make her more entertaining and more relatable. (her greed, her imprisoned father, her "hiding behind herself" thing which was resolved in the "Elan-Dashing Swordsman" mini-arc.)

Those are my top 3, and I'm out of time. More later.

Miko is the character we love to hate! :smallwink:

Belkar's Left Foot
2007-07-10, 08:52 AM
:roy:Because of the simple painful irony of his mere mission in life/death
:xykon: Because he gets the best one liners
:belkar: Because he's a homcidal/somewhat suicidal murder whore
:vaarsuvius: Because he's elfylicious!

Roy is my favorite. During most of my role-playing time, I've ended up as the leader of the parties I've been on(and have no clue how), and have had some severely dysfunctional groups, so I can really empathize with what Roy has to go through.

Miko is my least favorite. I've also been a GM/DM/etc. quite a bit, and had more than my fair share of players who played a paladin/holy knight/etc. in the way that Miko is written, the lawful stupid. It wasn't much fun listening to them become the medieval version of Judge Dredd(I AM THE LAW!) then, and reliving it through a comic kind of makes me wince.

Redcloak: Goblins usually are considered stupid, weak and worthless. RC shows people thinking that the error of their ways. He's the single most amiable villain there is: hardworking, smart, dedicated. I also love counter stereotypes.

Haley: She stole my heart along with Belkar's healing potion. I'm a sucker for the thief stereotype. She's also exceedingly humorous with that sharp tongue of hers. I like girls with a sense of humor.

Roy: He's the good guy. The protagonist. A man who has to take all that **** and still be the hero is someone deserving respect. Plus he's an intelligent fighter. I love counter stereotypes.

Xykon: He gives me a Joker vibe, the father (and coolest) of all supervillains. He also gets perfect one liners.

Belkar: Ahem... I AM A SEXY SHOELESS GOD OF WAR!

And honorable mention goes to...

The Chief. You are not forgotten.
