Founding the Justice League

New York City, New York, United States
10:48PM Local Time, 24th August 2016

As the cool night air whispers its siren song into the metropolis that is New York, people go about their routines, unaware that human history is about to be forever, irrevocably, altered.

Kar-En/Superwoman

The Sanctum is a large ship, and even though beneath your feet breathe eight billion people, up here in orbit you feel alone. Perhaps every so often you may pretend that there is hope, but sometimes you find it hard to get past the fact that Krypton's future rests solely on your shoulders. You wonder what dreams you will have tonight.

The onboard computer, Janus, broadcasts an alert. Police scanners in the kingdom of New York seem to be speaking of something they believe to be the result of another rogue superhuman. Several creatures seem to be attacking various parts of the city, stretching the police force.

Some nights you would be forced to confront your status as the Last Daughter of Krypton. This is not one of those nights. Within minutes, you have donned your protective suit and are close enough to this New York that you can see its buildings with your enhanced senses.

An unusual sound makes itself known to your hearing, and you quickly readjust your course to intercept.

Three creatures have taken flight in the air. Each is a dull grey colour that makes them hard to pick out against the backdrop of the city. For all intents and purposes, they appear to be gigantic bats with four wings. As you approach, their ears prick up, and it is obvious that they are now aware of you.

Puck

New York was one of those big cities, where everyone wanted to go. Including you. In some part of your swiss-cheese memory, you recall either visiting or wanting to visit New York, but you're sure that coming here would have triggered some recollection. So far, it's been three days and nothing you've seen has given any hints as to your past.

You're lost in your own world when it happens, just thinking about how the whole endeavour was a waste of time. So of course, something happens to disrupt the monotony. There's a scream, a roar, some more screams, and by that time you're sprinting towards the action.

Right in the middle of the road, there are three creatures raising havoc. Two look like werewolves out of some cheap horror movie, though the blood that they're covered in is very real. The last one is shorter than the other two; not difficult when they're seven foot, but what it lacks in height and muscle it makes up for in armour. Every inch of the thing is covered in a thick, wrinkly skin that looks almost impenetrable. Maybe a tank could put a hole through it, but you aren't that sure.

The time to strike is now.

Aranea

Getting out of Gotham seemed like a good idea at the time, but now you're starting to wonder if it really was. After all, Falcone's men might have been gunning for you, but there isn't really anyone else to defend the city apart from that Deluge guy. New York was far enough away that Falcone would give up looking for you, but close enough that you could get back if you needed to. But no one has asked for your help, and you can't help but shake the feeling that some lunatic has managed to blow up the whole place.

None of that really matters now, though. New York has enough crime that you could probably spend the rest of your life here trying to solve the cold cases. It's just one of the things that you think about on a cold night with no real purpose.

Then the screaming starts.

You bolt around the corner, expecting to see a rape or a fight. What you see is much worse.

Three abominations are on a rampage, attacking whatever they can see. Two are massive, muscular wolf things that have red liquid staining their forearms and snouts. The last one is short and stout and heavily armoured like an armadillo on steroids, or Venom. On the other corner of the street you can see a green person. Perhaps they're the one controlling these creatures.

Guess New York wasn't really that boring after all.

Resonance and Harmony

New York is so much more vibrant than your one Starbucks town. The lights and colours and emotions and everything just bring the whole experience to life. Especially to two creatively attuned people such as yourselves. You've been in New York for almost fifteen hours, and already you're tired from the experience. Art galleries and theatres and Central park and all of that. Maybe you did try to fit too much in.

The current place you're in is an Art Gallery owned by someone called Velvet. Gabriel? Daniel? It doesn't matter.

So far, you're thinking of ways to get a gig in New York for Glory Rising when suddenly there's a lot of loud noise and yelling. Two wolf-like creatures burst into the exhibition from the main hall, snarling and drooling at the buffet they see before them. The creatures have razor sharp teeth and look vicious enough to want to kill. To make matters worse, behind them you can see one more and another thing, ten feet tall with arms as wide as a tree trunk.

Hell, I guess you always did want to be heroes.

Livewire

You weren't really that interested in going to the function at your New York Art Gallery, but Vanessa somehow managed to convince you. You can't really remember what she said, but you know that it probably didn't matter anyway. If she wanted you here, you would have arrived here whether you were conscious or not.

It's as dreadfully boring as every other function you've been to in New York; all eighty year old billionaires who have kept a tight grip of their fortunes since they inherited them from Daddy dearest. Come to think of it, that describes you. Apart from the eighty year old part.

Just as you're listening to Mrs Such and Such - whose husband was a very big man on Wall Street before the GFC, but then he made his money all back through this marvellous invention that's going to change the world and if I could just have a small investment of around two hundred million - there's a commotion in one of the other parts of the gallery. Within seconds you've arrived in the room, only to see four beasts about to terrorise the partygoers. Functiongoers? Anyway, there are three werewolves and a giant elephant thing.

Time to show the world how much of a hero Livewire really is.

Wraith

New York is as corrupt and infested as any other place. Dig down deep enough and you'll find dirt on anyone. You're investigating a lead concerning the existence of an apparent superhuman Black Ops team; the dark shadow of the 51st Brigade. So far, you've only found rumours and hearsay, but one of those rumours turned out to be hiding a grain of truth. So with suit in hand and Jason in ear, you made your way to a small warehouse at the Docks, like the set up to every noir movie ever.

There's no one there. The place is clean. No guards, no data and definitely no supers.

Then they appear, out of the night. Three creatures, straight from Doctor Frankenstein's Veterinarian Clinic. Two of them stand upright, and look like Lou Chaney Jr got the CGI treatment. The last one looks like someone took two bats and spliced them together, Human Centipede-style. Whatever they are, they don't look friendly, and you're sure that they'll take a bite out of you.

The shadows are a welcome ally as you move to intercept them.

Travelling was super-fun. So much to see and do, it was awesome. Definitely had to get a gig here, or at least plan another trip with the others. Matt in particular would have loved this place.

But such happy thoughts were put on hold by the sudden commotion. When the twins whirled to see the three giant monsters, look, they could admit it, their first thought was "run". It didn't matter if they had superpowers, their base instincts saw giant predators and the immediate response was heart-pounding fear.

It lasted maybe a fifth of a second.

In the few months that they'd been "doing the superhero thing" as they called it, they'd mostly faced mundane crime. They barely even took it seriously. It was probably kinda surreal for the criminals. The treated it more like they were putting on a show for the bystanders/victims than saving the day. Usually a comedy show, actually.

This was different. This was serious!

"Wow did you guys ever pick the wrong house to huff and puff your way through!"

"Seriously. Little old ladies in the woods? Way safer targets. I'm just saying."

...Well, it was different, anyway.

The twins ran straight at them, leaping and flipping over the wolves to come down on the elephant with simultaneous hard kicks, using the momentum to spring back and plant their hands on the wolves' shoulders, swinging around to bring their knees up hard under each wolf's chin and kicking off their chests. They landed on their hands, springing up and arcing across each other to land in front of the opposite wolf, each of raining a hard flurry of punches before rolling beneath their legs and coming up before the elephant again, throwing a final powerful blow at its stomach, their fists aiming barely an inch apart.

But for all their speed and power, their fists and feet were the least of the beastfolks' concern. Every blow of Kyle's hands would be like a jet engine roaring in their ears, while Kelly's strikes would fill them with a sudden, passive content, a feeling of complete calm.

Any trace of fear was gone. They were both wearing bright, excited smiles.

Initiative? [roll0]

Assuming they win or are assumed on-turn:

Move: Into Close range of the beastfolk.

Standard: Attack using Sensory Overwhelm and Emotional Overwhelm, Multiattacking for 3. Each target hit must make a DC 28 Toughness save vs. Damage, DC 23 Fortitude save vs. Entranced/Stunned Affliction, and DC 23 Will save vs. Dazed/Compelled Affliction. Compelled targets must spend their standard action reach round doing nothing. If desired, they may roll a single d20 check for the Fortitude and Will saves and simply apply their defenses individually to that result, rather than rolling each check separately.
Wolf 1: [roll1].
Wolf 2: [roll2].
Elephant: [roll3].

Current Status: Normal.

Dressed to the nines, Nathaniel Velvet smiles and nods his way through yet another night of schmoozing. Talking, listening, laughing and replying--he plays the game he's known since childhood. It's not a question of whether he wants to be good at it, just that he is. It's just not what he wants to be doing right now.

He takes another sip of his scotch and listens without hearing the umpteenth elderly socialite asking him for a favor. Given his druthers, he'd be at home whipping up another batch of VeVo Generators(tm). Or designing another concoction to try out. Or anything but this, really. But Vanessa had insisted, and by the time he realized it he'd been walking into the gallery entrance. She knows how to get what she wants, it's uncanny. Then again, the two of them know each others' buttons well enough by now. To be honest, it's a wonder they haven't gotten together by now.

His introspection is interrupted by the commotion in another room. With a quick "Sorry, I must go," to the woman he was speaking with, he zooms over to the next room to see the cause. The sight before him brings him some pause. Now, he's done quite a bit in the past few months. He's faced down cartel drug runners, mafia thugs; hell, one time a hitman came after him in his bed. That had been scary.

But these things are like nothing he's seen before. At least, nothing in the real world. That's enough to give him pause for a moment of time. A moment of his time, however, is a mere fraction of a second to the rest of the world. In the blink of an eye electricity has gathered around his entire body. It curls around his arms and coalesces onto his hands, and his hair stands straight up in the air. He has no true super-suit, not yet, and so he advances in all his finery.

"Everyone, evacuate the building!" he yells to the crowd in a voice that crackles across the air. He takes a split second of his time to run through the entirety of the building. He checks for any other monsters before returning to the first group. He plants himself squarely between the monsters as he readies himself. In a literal flash of electricity he bursts out at the monsters around him. Fists pound onto a single space between the elephant's eyes, as if to hammer a hole through its head. He finishes with a double uppercut to the jaw. Then he turns to the werewolves: he rings one's head like a bell, alternating fists to shake its brain up; the last two he does some good old-fashioned fisticuffs to the midsection.

His strikes, covered as they were in lightning, pierce through their hide and skin. The electricity courses through them, promising further pain very soon. He finishes to stand between the monsters and the majority of the people. He calls and motions for the rest to get behind him, then takes up a defensive posture. He appears calm and relaxed, despite the situation. He's already been dead once. That tends to take the wind out of a lot of dangerous situations.

Move action: Move so that the enemies are within a 15ft radius of Nate.

Standard action: Shock and Awe, Targeted Cloud Area, Power Attack for -5/+5, DC 28+Multiattack Damage. If it hits, they will need to save again next round.

The glittering ocean blurred beneath the Kryptonian as she rocketed across the sky, black cape billowing behind her. On the way to a crisis as she was, Kar-En couldn't help but smirk as she barelled-rolled in mid-air; the woosh! of air past her helmet echoing within her ears.

Up ahead was the Kingdom of New York. Based on her analysis so far, this was an incredibly important population centre to this region of the human planet. Janus' had analysed enormous (for the humans anyway) volumes of data being imported and exported, while the financial system the humans used seemed centred on this landscape of chrome and steel. But as much as she'd enjoy depositing herself in the streets and waving hello to the locals, Kar-En was brought to a stop when she noticed the three winged, bat-like creatures flapping away from the Big Apple.

The cloud formation Kar-En stopped in exploded in a puff of speed forces and momentum as the Kryptonian came to an abrupt halt. Hovering in the air, her cape fluttering to one side, she peered at the trio of...things before her. "Janus, can you make anything of this? Do the humans keep these things as pets?" she asked quietly into her commlink.

Not waiting for an answer, Kar-En hovered forward as the opaque darkness of her helmet visor shifted into a transparency that allowed her face to be seen by any onlookers.

Somewhat reserved but open to the idea that she was interacting with human subordinate or some type of domesticated fauna, Kar-En held up one gauntleted hand in greeting as the micro-speakers on her helmet amplified her voice to be heard over the rushing winds of this altitude. Unsure of what to say to bat-thing creatures, she tried to act casual.

"Hey there! How's it going? Are you guys from around here?"

Aranea scowled, but gave a silent prayer that she had remembered to pack her mask. A moment later, her body was subsumed from within in what amounted to a tidal wave of beetles, bees, spiders, wasps, and countless other creepy-crawlies too numerous to mention. The veritable avalanche of insects glided towards the abominable creatures with an air of confidence and power. As she ambled forward, a blast of insects swept out from her body, sweeping over everything nearby; civilians were shrouded from vision by swarms of insects, while the abominations were harried and hindered by even more bugs. Aranea spoke through the swarm:

ALL CITIZENS: PLEASE LEAVE THE AREA IN A CALM AND ORDERLY FASHION WHILE THE ABOMINATIONS ARE BEING CONTAINED. YOUR COOPERATION IS APPRECIATED."

Initiative: [roll0]

Free Action: Change "Quickness 20" fully to "Senses 20" DAP.

Move Action: Activate "Alternate Form".

Free Action: Change Attack Array to AE9.

Standard Action: Use Attack Power: Concealment+Environment.

Every enemy within 120ft has their movement speed reduced by two ranks. Every civilian within 120ft must make a DC 14 Dodge check vs being Concealed from view; they can still see cars and streets and what not, but the abominations won't be able to see them if the civilian fails the save. Aranea is not concealing herself in this manner.

Peeking from around the side of a tall crate, Charlie glared at the supernatural-looking creatures. They weren't the ugliest things he'd seen on the job, but...actually, they probably were. And they were heading his way. Of course, he saw them and they didn't see him. As long as he could keep things that way, there was nothing to worry about. Not to mention he had his speedboat in the water just a hundred metres away, and his power suit waiting inside if things got hot. He elected not to say anything to Jason, lest he gave away his position.

The creatures turned a corner, coming to the spot where they should have come face-to-face with the Wraith. Only, if they'd been expecting such an encounter, they'd be surprised to find nothing but a small cylindrical yellow canister lying innocuously at their feet.

Bang!

A blinding flash, and a searing screech. In the confusion, it would be almost impossible to hear the whirring noise of the vigilante's grapnel launcher retracting, and pulling him to the roof.

From one of the warehouse's ceiling rafters and behind the safety of his protective mask, he peered at the strange things to see how they reacted. Wolf and bat motifs could both imply immunity or vulnerability to a sensory attack.

Gonna try to get a Surprise Round with Stealth [roll0]*. Initiative [roll1].

If my turn is up:
Standard Action: Stun Grenade on the three of them. Dodge DC 18 for Half, DC 18/14 Fortitude against Dazed and Vulnerable/Stunned and Defenseless.
Move Action: Swinging up into the rafters with Hide in Plain Sight at [roll2].

Status: Normal.

* As long as Wraith's in the city and not wearing his Mecha Suit, I'm going to assume that he gets the +5 bonus to his Stealth for having appropriate urban camo. If I'm wrong, feel free to subtract 5 from my Stealth checks.

Puck hated being late to a party.

This whole trip was turning out to be a serious bust. Coming all the way here hoping to track down a lead, and all she had to show for it was a serious hotel bill waiting for her, and the knowledge that the local pizza was seriously overhyped as far as she was concerned. She was actually relieved at the sounds of catastrophe, least at first. Stopping bad guys always put her in a good mood. But low and behold, it she wasn’t the first on the scene. Or the second for that matter. Seemed like everyone and their grandmother had shown up to fight the Furry Force.

Or…wait…****! Which side was the bad guys in this scenario? It was kind of a coin toss here, and she didn’t really recognize anyone. It was to chaotic to make a call. Maybe she should just fight everyone? It wasn’t a terrible idea, nobody looked tough enough to give her worry, and she’d yet to encounter anyone who posed a threat.

Of course, even after beating up everyone, she’d probably end up looking more like a jerk or a psycho than a hero. Lame!

Puck ended up just strolling onto the battlefield, pushing her way through the crowd where needed, her form fluxing away from her cover (A brunette with glasses and freckles), back to her default. She also did some routine work under the surface. Call it ‘putting on her game face’ if you’d like. Her hands were held casually in her pockets, and she took her time walking, being in absolutely no hurry as she approached the battle. She even morphed-up some bubble gum so she could casually blow a bubble as she entered into the fray. “Hey, everyone who doesn’t want a concussion, cool your jets or I’ll have to knock you flat on your backsides.” She said, smooth as she could, though internally regretting that she’d forgotten her sunglasses at home. It’d look way more badass if she had a pair of sunglasses to put in her pocket once the fists started flying.

Superwoman
Above New York 10:53PM Local Time

None of the bat-like creatures reply to your question. However, they do respond, by altering their formation. One breaks from the pack and flies off back towards the city, while the last two take a sharp turn and head further west, towards a large statue of a green woman.

Puck
New York 10:53PM Local Time

The wolves and armadillo thing don't respond to you, though they do continue to cut through the crowd of people. Just as you think that you're going to have to take them on by yourself, a swarm of bugs emerges from the opposite side of the boulevard. It's probably a super, mostly because you don't think that anyone has the time to train that many bugs for their synchronised flying performance.

Live Wire
Velvet Art Gallery, New York 10:53PM Local Time

One of the benefits of being a living lighting bolt, perhaps the universe's way of negating the fact that you are living lightning, is the speed. Fast enough to bolt through several hundred metres of art gallery in a fraction of a second, fast enough to scout around the freaks of nature for any further signs of danger and fast enough to leap into action before they can react.

Just as you enter the room where the beasts are, you see two similar-looking people who don't look scared, but excited. Probably supers, but you're fast enough that you don't need their help.

You leap into action in milliseconds, your fists moving fast enough that even you aren't entirely sure that you can see them all the time. Lightning races across the skin of the elephant creature and over the fur of the wolves, dancing to its own tune. As you move back a safe distance, you reenter normal time, and see the effects of your attack.

The smell of burnt fur permeates through the air. One of the wolves falls to its knees, then falls onto its face, unconscious. It's definitely out of the fight. A second one falls to its knees, but manages to right itself, though it still has a dazed look in its eyes. The final wolf is also dazed, but not nearly to the same degree that its brother is. Finally, apart from a few scorch marks, the elephant is fine.

The wolves failed by four, three and two degrees respectively. Funnily enough, the one that failed by four had the highest initiative. The elephant only failed by one degree.

Aranea
New York 10:53PM Local Time

Your calls don't seem to create much in the way of order in the crowd of civilians. Luckily, your transformation into a swarm of bugs seems to draw the attention of the wolves away from the defenceless civilians.

The closest one leaps at you, swinging its bloody claws in a powerful downwards motion.

DC32 v Dodge, DC30 v Toughness. If it hits, roll for DC 23 v Fortitude for Progressive Affliction (Hindered, Disabled, Paralysed)

The concealment works, however, and you can see some of the civilians using the opportunity to retreat. However, in that time, the next wolf attacks.

DC18 v Dodge, DC30 v Toughness. If it hits, roll for DC 23 v Fortitude for Progressive Affliction (Hindered, Disabled, Paralysed)

The armadillo-creature lumbers towards you, its strength in its tough skin rather than its speed.

Resonance and Harmony
Velvet Art Gallery

Barely a second after the creatures enter the room, a lightning bolt blurs into the room, bouncing off each of the creatures like a glorified pinball.

What it was trying to do becomes obvious, however, as one falls unconscious and one falls to its knees, staggered. Now is your chance to attack.

You leap forward, striking at the large elephant creature. However, it is more agile than it appears, and ducks out of the way just in time. Landing against a wall and pushing off, you flip back to where the wolves are and begin your assault. Both of them are weakened enough by the lightning bolt's attack that they stand no chance; another falls unconscious at your feet and the last falls prey to your sensory and emotional powers, swaying slightly as it tries to fight back against its own mind.

The tank, however, has different ideas, and smashes one very large hand to the ground, breaking the floor in a pattern that impedes movement.

One wolf down, another both staggered, dazed and prey to both second degree effects of the powers. The tank, however, is not affected by either attack, and instead uses an Environment power to impede movement by 1 rank.

Wraith
Abandoned Warehouse, New York 10:53PM

The shadows are your ally as you lift into the air. None of the creatures below you seem to share the extraordinary sensory abilities of their compatriots in the real animal kingdom, and appear none the wiser to either your existence or your movement.

As they approach the spot, where you left your very little friend, only one of the wolves fails to recognise the danger. The bat scrambles into the air and the wolf ducks for cover a second before the grenade goes off.

The extra metre or two that the clever wolf managed to get wasn't enough for it to escape the effects of the blast, and it too is hit with a full blast. Both wolves fall to the ground, defenceless and stunned. However, the bat still remains active.

Both wolves failed checks against the stun grenade, while the bat succeeded.

Since all of you succeeded the assessment check, I'll put the info here. The wolves are agile and tactical brawlers, but aren't very tough, so fall easily. The elephant thing is stronger physically, meaning it is both tougher and packs a bigger punch, but is slower and finds it difficult to hit fast opponents. The bats are very agile and quick, but are extremely weak and can barely attack. The armadillo is a tank in every sense of the word except for the modern military one; extremely slow, but can't be taken down by anything less than a cruise missile.

Pcuk fumed. What the hell was that? She walks right up to these beasts, throws down the gauntlet, and they just flat out IGNORE her? Ok, No! That just does not happen. These guys were going down hard. No kiddie gloves, no chance at surrender. This was now a demostrative lesson as to why you don't treat a freaking super-hero like they were some flunkie intern and brush them aside when they are talking to you!

"Wrong choice, dirtbags" she growled. Staying where she was, Puck stretched her legs, coiling them into a giant spring, which gave a quick flex and propelled her up into the air. As she flew, she tumbled over, turning upsidedown so she could see the three beasts below her. Her arms morphed next, widening out and rounding off into a series of parallel barrels. Two Gattling-Gun arms, Ready. Aim. She gave a smirk. FIRE!!!!

If any of the onlookers had the reflexes to see, they might have observed that Puck wasn't shooting bullets. Rather, out of each barrel shot a pencil thin tendril that inflated its tip into a fist in the moments before it impacted on the scene below. The tendril would then retract just as swiftly, right in time for the next 'shot' to be fired. Of course, few people would have the needed reaction time to observe these events. They'd probably just be able to see the dust and debris kicked up as Puck let loose with wild abandon.

Tumbling as she landed next to the central mass of the swarm. She shot a side glance at the buzzing ball, and tried not to gag. Mega-gross. "Thanks for the assist, Buggs, but I've got it from here. Keep the civies on the sidelines and I'll handle the rest."

Before the twins could even move, someone shot a bolt of lightning at the monsters. Hey cool!

Then they realized he hadn't shot the lightning, he was the lightning.

"Wow he's fast!" Kyle said.

"He is indeed fast," Kelly eloquently agreed.

"You, sir, are very fast!" Kyle helpfully informed him.

With the wolves taking a pounding, the twins focused their attention on the elephant.

"Hey, so, I'm Kelly. This is my brother Kyle," Kelly said to the electric guy.

"Heya!"

"And may I just say, awesome power! You're all, 'Whoosh! Zap!' And they're like, 'Ack!' and 'Sizzle!' and stuff!"

"And like, seriously, we have a friend who's a speedster, and he's not half as fast as you. Uh. I don't think. Past a certain mach it gets hard to tell, admittedly. But I'm pretty sure!"

"So what's with these animal guys do you think? Is it a full moon out tonight or something?"

...Okay, so they focused some of their attention on the elephant. Close enough! When they attacked it halfway through their little chat, it would never see it coming!

They came in together from opposite sides, dancing around the wolves to lash out with swift strikes from opposite sides. Kyle's blow would also fill the elephant's nose with a nauseating stench, while Kelly's would carry an insidious pulse of empathic energy, heightening its emotional sensitivity.

Move: Feint the Elephant at -5 at [roll0]. If they succeed, use Set Up 2 to transfer the benefits to both themselves and Live Wire.

Standard: Attack the Elephant with Sensory Overload and Emotional Surge at [roll1]. On a hit, Toughness DC 28 vs. Damage, Fortitude DC 23 vs. Cumulative Impaired/Disabled/Incapacitated, and Will DC 23 vs. Secondary Effect Weaken Will. Nate backflips out of the area of the broken floor, frowning in annoyance. "C'mon, I haven't gotten freaky-monster-insurance for this place yet," he says with a scowl.

Then he blinks at the Twins'...exuberant response to his powers. With a chuckle, he says, "Thanks. I haven't clocked myself yet, but I have managed to go from here to Europe in a few seconds flat. Pretty fast, if I do say so myself. Kelly and Kyle..."

He thinks to himself for a fraction of a second. "The Chase Twins, singers and guitarists of the new band Glory Rising, right? Pretty good stuff you've got there, and I'm not talking about just your powers. I'm Nathaniel Velvet, owner of this humble gallery. You can call me 'Live Wire' when we're fighting, if you want; my secretary says a super-hero name is silly, but really, I think I deserve it."

"As for these things...I haven't heard about any unusual phenomena in the past few days. Well, other than the sudden uptick in super-powered individuals like the three of us. But now that you mention it, this may not be an isolated incident...pardon me a moment."

He tenses for a moment, and in the next eye-blink he is gone from the room. Throughout the rest of the city, a current of electricity zips through the streets one by one. Up and down Broadway, by Rockefeller Center, across the bay through the Statue of Liberty, and basically inspecting every inch of the city without intruding into private areas. In the next eye-blink of the Twins the electricity is back and zipping at the elephant-creature.

It's a simple mathematical equation: E=mc2. Energy equals mass times the speed of light squared. Well, Nate can run at damn near the speed of light, and he's not a light man. So when he deals the elephant-creature a double-fisted blow, there is a tremendous amount of kinetic energy that crashes against its tough skin. And in addition he places his hands onto the creature's head and focuses as much electricity there as he can. That much energy would be enough to induce a seizure in a regular elephant; odds are it'll do the same to it.

At least, that was the original plan. I mean, Nate'll say there was a hole in the floor that wasn't there before, or the elephant-thing got lucky, but for some reason the bolt of electricity that is Nathaniel just sails past the elephant-thing and smack into the wall. He makes a resounding "thud" sound as he bounces off and back to his original position. He tries to play it off like nothing happened, but his clothes are noticeably messed up from what they were earlier.

He gives a slight cough. "There are other groups of similar creatures in various locations around the city. This is either a tremendous coincidence, or these groups are being orchestrated someone...or something."

Free action: shuffle Thunder in Heaven to have Speed 20 and Quickness 20

Move action: Run through the city for reconnaissance. Nate can move 4,000 miles (2,000 miles if the -1 movement speed from the elephant-thing works on the entirety of his movement throughout the round), so he'll hit the major places of NYC to look for more enemies. If you'd rather he not do this, please let me know and I'll change his move action.

Move-by Action: Use Shock Overload, All-Out/Power Attack for -5/+5: [roll0] vs DC 34 Damage, DC 29 Will vs Entranced+Vulnerable/Stunned+Defenseless

End turn in original position away from the elephant-thing.

Superwomans senses took in the bedlam unfolding on Manhattan island as she watched the trio of bat-things become a duo and a loner. Pursing her lips, saying quickly into her commlink "Janus?! Do you have anything on these...things?" as she rocketed forward.

Unsure if these things could even communicate yet, Superwoman shot out ahead of the two bats heading towards the big green woman before she ripped to a halt. Bringing up a closed fist and pointed finger, "Last warning: who the hell are you and what's going on?" as she gestured to Manhattan island with her free gauntleted hand.

Wraith watched and nodded as the creatures were dazed by his blast. In one hand he still had his grapnel gun; in the other, he reached into a hidden pouch in his suit and retrieved a number of small boomerangs, flinging them towards the warehouse floor. The loud clattering of metal on wood would hopefully distract the bat-like creature long enough that it wouldn't notice him aim and fire his grapnel launcher right toward it, shooting with enough force to pin it.

Move Action: Feint the Bat at [roll0].

Superwoman
Above New York 10:54PM Local Time

Neither of the flying creatures even attempts to communicate with you, simply bringing their wings in close and diving under you, before reextending their wings and continuing their flight. Either they are unconcerned with your presence or they cannot understand you at all.

In the distance, the third creature flies further and further away, before diving below the New York skyline, as if searching for something back in the city.

Live Wire
Velvet Art Gallery 10:54PM Local Time

As Nate speeds through the city, he finds a similar story occurring everywhere: mutated creatures are attacking places where people are, though they don't appear to have an actual goal in mind. Points of interest are a fight raging in the centre of a boulevard in the centre of town, where a swarm of bugs has appeared to shield the civilians from their furry attackers while a green skinned figure rushes to assist, and a location near the entrance to Central Park, where what looks like a cloud of floating steak knives was flying through the air.

On the plus side, though, it seems that the official response has begun, as police officers stand shoulder to shoulder with armed civilians, placing well-aimed shots in the flesh of the mutants attacking.

Aranea
New York 10:54 Local Time

The wolves' attacks are a bit like trying to barricade a river with a twig; ineffectual and wasted. Their strikes move through the swarm of bugs, pushing some to the side but doing no damage at all to Aranea. Maybe it was a lack of intellect that caused them to not recognise the improbability of them being able to kill a being made of bugs, or maybe it was something more primal that forced them to do it in the first place. Whatever the reason, the wolves land with a snarl, spinning to face the swarm of bugs rapidly surrounding them.

By now, more than half of the remaining civilians have managed to flee from the area, in search of safer ground. Those who remain are quickly moving to follow them.

The green-skinned figure that Aranea had noticed before has moved closer, and is apparently intent on fighting the creatures too.

Resonance and Harmony
Velvet Art Gallery, New York 10:54 PM Local Time

As Nathaniel's, though the twins prefer to think of him as Live Wire, attack misses, the twins see their opportunity to strike. They feinted at the creature, not expecting it to be able to guess their deception. It isn't, and moves to defend against the fake attacks. In the moments of confusion that follow, the twins are able to strike the elephant, channelling their power and powers into the blow.

The blow seems to be effective, if the fact that the force of the blows is enough to create dual indentations approximately two inches deep on either side of the creature's head is any indication. It gives a small groan, then collapses bonelessly to the ground.

Except for the sound of one of the civilians softly sobbing, the art gallery is silent.

Wraith
Abandoned Warehouse, New York 10:54PM Local Time

At the sound of Wraith's boomerangs striking the floor, the bat seems to be startled and flaps its wings more violently to get away. It isn't listening to the shot of the grapnel gun as it fires, but the creature has some sort of supernatural reflex and manages to avoid getting tangled. It screeches and flies off into the night, quickly moving out of Wraith's line of sight. Though, from what he can see, it is flying back into the city.

Back on the floor, the two wolves still remain, paralysed by Wraith's stun grenades.

Puck
New York 10:54PM Local Time

Puck leaps into the air, assisted by her spring-loaded legs.

Her fists rain down upon the creatures, but the wolves are able to block the punches, having either supernatural reflexes to see the punches or supreme fighting ability. The armadillo-creature isn't as quick, and more of Puck's punches slip through its defences than are blocked. However, the punches are ineffectual, bouncing off its tough skin like water off a duck's back.

Puck lands almost perfectly next to the source of the swarm of bugs, having now drawn the attention of all three creatures.

Despite the serious situation, the twins wore smiles, clearly pleased at the compliment. "Thanks!"

"Ooh, right, codenames, fun," Kelly added when Live Wire introduced himself. "You can call us Harmony and Resonance! If you want."

"Although to be fair, Kyle and Kelly are easier to shout when there's a giant werewolf thing lunging at speed for the backs of our necks, so either way."

One wolf down, elephant down, two other wolves largely insensate. It was pretty much a win, but their powers didn't last indefinitely. The twins hammered the pacified wolves with some final hard punches, aiming to put them down for the count so they would be free to assist the rest of the city.

Move: Nah.

Standard: Attack the still-standing wolves with Sensory Overwhelm and Emotional Overwhelm. All Out Attack for 5, Power Attack for 5, Multiattack for 2. On a hit, Toughness DC 33 vs. Damage, but they're already suffering the worst results of the Affliction.

Nate smiles with encouragement at the Twins' enthusiasm. "I'll keep it in mind," he says with an equal level of enthusiasm. The two have the right idea: leaving the wolves free to wake up would be a bad idea. Practically in tandem with them he lunges at the remaining wolves, punishing them with fists and lightning.

Once the wolves are taken care of, he does one more circuit around the art gallery to ensure no more wolves have erupted. Assuming no more monsters are found, he returns to the Twins. "Well, shall we?" he asks with a charming smile as he takes both siblings' arms. In less than the blink of an eye the two Chase siblings find themselves near an abandoned warehouse. Two wolves lie on the ground, senseless, as a bat flaps frantically away.

"This seems as good a spot as any. Here's a commlink, buzz if you need me. We'll regroup after we clean up, kthanksbye!" Live Wire's rapid-fire sentence trails off as he zips away into the air. During his run, he had noticed something in the air near the Statue of Liberty. As he nears it, he sees more of the bats, and the Earth's resident alien.

"It's Superwoman, right?" he asks with a charming smile. Though he looks nonchalant, a sharp eye can see his legs pumping the air several thousand times a second to keep him aloft. "Any idea what these monsters are?"

Attack with Shock and Awe, Power Attacking for -5/+5 vs DC 28+Multiattack Damage. This Damage also has a Secondary Effect.

Having readied herself for the things to decline her invitation to cease and desist, Kar-En pursed her lips in disappointment. Immediately, her visor blacked over to hide her features and the mouth-guard slid up from her collar area to shield her jaw.

"Fine."

Shooting forward, Superwoman drove one of her open-fists into the left creatures face, while her other hand grasped for the second...

ooc:
This is happening before Live Wire says anything; Readying and Action earlier and all that :smalltongue:.

Superwoman is:
- Using All-out attack to take -4 to her active defenses and apply +4 to her To Hit.

- Using Rapid Strikes Multiattack to target each bat, incurring a -2 to hit; however it is Subtle 2 (undetectable), so the bats active defenses are halved (so if they've got Parry 18 (10 base + 8 parry) she makes her To Hit against 14). If she hits they must make a DC 34/37 toughness save depending by how much she beat their Parry by.

- If she hits she is using Fast Grab to get a free grapple, and using her Improved Grab to Grab with 1 arm, allowing her to Grab both bats with one arm each; each bat must make a DC 27 Strength check to beat her; if they fail this round, then Improved Hold means they have to beat DC 27 strength check at -5 penalty.

- She's then using Move-by Action and the rest of her movement to zoom after the 3rd bat-thing (which is where her turn would end, unfortunately, as Slam is a standard action I think otherwise she'd plow right into it).

At the end of this she has:

- To-hit: +9 normally +4 All-out Attack -2 Multiattack =+11

- Parry/Dodge: +9 normally +2 favorite environment -4 All-out attack = +7

Puck fumed even more so, boiling with indignation. The bugs were ignoring her, the beasts were ignoring her, and she might as well be lobbing pillows at the armadillo for all the good it was doing. The hell was up with that?! “…ok then…” Was about all she muttered for banter, her composure cracking a little as frustration was setting in. “Guess I’m going to have to get rough!” She grit her teeth and with a quick burst of force, willed her body to reform. Bicepts, Tricepts, Abs, Quads…Puck bulked up big time. The She went from lean and green, to mean and green. Interlacing her fingers, she cracked her knuckles over her head, and cracked them hard enough that her arms split into a second pair. Now sporting two sets of 25 inch pipes, She was back in the game.

She let fly another flurry of strikes, lacking the speed of her earlier attempt, but a heck of a lot more force. Also unlike last time, she wasn’t content to just hit and fade. Her blows were more fluid, sticky and adhesive. Ready to ensnare as well as strike.

Velvet Art Gallery, New York 10:55PM Local Time

Though, technically, the wolves are still conscious, it takes very little energy to effort to rectify that. Of the attacking creatures, a quick inspection reveals that all four animals are knocked out, courtesy of yourself and the twin's attacks. It occurs to you that PETA will probably have a field day tomorrow, but you can't bring yourself to care too much. After all, they were attacking your art gallery first.

Leaving the art gallery, Nate brings the twins east, towards the ocean, where he had seen the warehouse. Before they can even utter a quick 'thanks', Nate has already set himself on the path to Liberty Island. Upon sighting Superwoman, he notices that she is chasing two flying creatures that have a remarkable similarity to bats.

Superwoman
Above New York 10:55Pm Local Time

The bats still refuse to listen to your orders for them to stop. They continue to fly towards the statue, so you decide to attack.

Rocketing towards them, you aim for both with closed fists. One is fortunate enough to dodge out of the way. The other isn't so lucky. Your fist hits it flat in the chest, causing it to momentarily forget to flap its wings and fall for a second before it regains its bearings and tries to escape.

Your hand grasps the one that you had hit, due to the fact that the other had flown out of range. Spotting the third bat retreating, you manage to pull the grappled bat with you back towards the city, quickly catching up to the third bat.

Resonance and Harmony
Velvet Art Gallery, New York 10:55PM Local Time

Before either of you can react, Live Wire has already taken out the last two wolves. You turn back to see the crowd staring at you with a mixture of horror and gratefulness. One or two of them are filming the action with a handheld smartphone and you even spot a man in the background that has one of those old cameras that you've heard about.

Your ears catch the sound of a nearby well dressed older lady asking the man beside her, "Did they kill those animals?".

He shakes his head, replying, "No, only knocked unconscious."

Live Wire grabs both of you by the arm and activates his speed. Within seconds, Live Wire has already moved the two of you from the art gallery to an abandoned warehouse near the docks. The sound of waves crashing against the concrete of the docks is quietly audible, and simply adds to the eerie feel of the deserted area. All of a sudden you hear the sound of flapping wings as a bat-like creature with four wings flees the building. Already it is too far from you for your attacks to be effective, but perhaps the warehouse holds something of worth.

Puck
New York 10:55PM Local Time

Your blows are strong and fast enough to catch the wolves and the tank off guard, and all three are struck with your fists. One of the wolves walks into one of your punches the wrong way and falls to the ground, blood seeping from its head. The other wolf and the armadillo are battered heavily, opening their guard for the precious few seconds that it takes for Puck to snake her arms around the group and take hold of them.

He scowled and shook his head as that damn thing got away, but even as he did so Wraith was reaching for more throwing weapons out of his costume. He threw a handful down at the stunned wolves and watched as they broke apart, flew in on a curve, and would hopefully collide with the creatures hard enough to knock them out. If he succeeded in his endeavour he would rehook himself onto the beam he was balancing on and lower himself back down to floor level.

"Carrady, what are these supposed to be?"

And whoosh! Before they could even say "Whee!" they were elsewhere.

"Okay b- ...aaaaand too slow," Kelly said.

"Left before we could tell him we have commlinks. We'll have to find him after these creatures are all dealt with and give it back."

"Ayup," Kelly agreed. No threats seemed present at this location, aside from the bat, so they moved off, racing down the streets - although hey, if it were low enough, they'd jump up to tag the bat on the way. Because why not? Otherwise, they'd dart about until they found more monsters and basically just start immediately pummeling whichever one looked biggest and meanest.

It was like tactics, anyway!

Move: I don't think Wraith is actually in line of sight here, and even if he technically was I'm not sure we'd be able to see him because Wraith, so they're just gonna start running through the streets at 16,000 MPH until they come across more monsters to hit.

...That being said, it was mentioned that the bat was out of reach, buuuuuut I'm not sure if that takes into account the fact that they can move up to 30 miles in a move action including up to 900' of vertical movement. So if the bat's within 900' of the ground (or of a building they can run up and jump off of, whichever works), they'll go after it, and then Move-by Action off elsewhere.

Standard: Attack either the bat (if it's within their "jumping" range) or the first animal monster thing they encounter. If they encounter multiple animal monster things, then whichever one looks most dangerous. Let's go with Sensory and Emotional Overload for this attack. [roll0]. On a hit, Toughness DC 28 vs. Damage, Fortitude DC 23 vs. Cumulative Impaired/Disabled/Incapacitated, Will DC 23 vs. Cumulative Vulnerable/Defenseless/Incapacitated. Fort and Will can be made as a single roll if desired. EDIT: ...Maybe I should start using my Area moves. If for no better reason than so I don't have to actually make attack rolls.

Puck sported a cocky smirk as her targets were ensnared. Despite her initial frustrations, this fight looked to be turning out exactly how she’d hoped it would. With her quick and decisive victory. Almost made her regret the fact the crowd had already evacuated. Stopping monsters was surely worth a decent round of applause. Ah well, nothing could be done about that. She’d probably have to wait for the police or news to show up. That was when she realized she was technically getting ahead of herself here. Her arms, wrapped tight around two of the animals, continued to extend, adding additional layers to the ensnarement. The limbs morphed as they moved, becoming handcuffs, shackles, straightjackets, muzzles, and all manner of restraints short of a full iron-cage. “Alright guys, good show, but let’s wrap this up” she chuckled, before realizing what she said, and groaning “Oh jeez…that was a pun. ‘Wrap this up’. I can’t believe I said that” Still, even the bad wordplay couldn’t sour her mood. “If any of you can talk, now’d be a great time to start spouting of whatever grand plan you all had in mind with this.” Puck wasn’t 100% convincenced these guys were intelligent enough for that, but it was worth a shot.

Speaking of animals who had thus far made for terrible conversationalists. “Hey, Buggs, thanks for the assist on this one.” The gratitude was a little feigned, but Puck tried not to let it show that she’d done all the work here. “After these losers get sent to the pound, we should grab a bite. I hear Chinatown has some spicy udon that’ll seriously mess you up. You interested?”

Move action: None
Standard action: Increase the degree of restraint on the grab + Picking up and grappling the unconscious wolf.

Fast Grab: DC 31 Strength or dodge vs increasing grapple from restrained to (defenseless, immobile, and impaired). Puck also has chokehold, so anybody still resisting is getting suffocated (10 + Stamina rounds until they need to start making their saves, but still)
Improved Hold means enemies are at -5 on their rolls to resist.

Hissing under her breath as she missed that second bat, Superwoman remained focused as the third flying thing grew larger in her sight as she rocketed towards it with one of its friends in hand.

Not allowing the creature to get far as she held the first bat in hand, Superwoman twisted her hips sharply to one side to create a sharp, pivoting momentum in which she drew first bat around her body and hurled its screeching face at the second bat like a slingshot.

This post is acting under the assumption that the enemies fighting me were all handled, and that the green figure earlier noted as approaching was another PC. If that's not correct, disregard this post.

"Celebrating success should wait until it has been ensured that no more threats are waiting in the wings," came the swarm's reply, its 'voice' such as it was more of a dissonant harmony wrought from the thousands of little insects trilling or buzzing in a shiver-inducing symphony. Without another word, the swarms of insects filling the block flowed back into Aranea's form, and she drifted higher to get a better vantage point, to see if there were any abominations still making nuisances of themselves nearby.

Superwoman
Above New York, 10:55PM Local Time

The free bat is agile enough to avoid the throw, and it easily sails out of harm's way. As soon as they have both gotten their bearings, they immediately split again, one tucking its wings in and diving towards the water, the other stretching out and gliding down to the nearest set of buildings, perhaps attempting to lose you in the small area.

Aranea
New York, 10:55PM Local Time

From your vantage point just above the street, you can see chaos as far as the eye can see. The wolf-like creatures march in packs, flanked by the heavily armoured armadillo creatures. There are other things too, large creatures with elephant-like skin and large, overdeveloped forearms that make their blows strong enough to bend the metal of cars or shatter brick walls. There are also small, four winged bat-like creatures that aren't participating in the fighting, but instead simply hover around areas where the other creatures are. You can also see what looks like that alien, Superwoman?, in the sky, fighting a couple of the bat-like creatures. Below you, the green creature with the motor mouth continues to wrestle with the mutated creatures, though she seems to be in control of the situation.

You set off in an instant, rushing towards the bat. It seems unaware, so you think that you might have the drop on it. Racing up the side of a building and backflipping off it, the intention was to strike the bat whilst you were both in mid air. Unfortunately, it was too agile and your attack was mistimed, causing you to miss by a metaphorical mile. It screeches as you pass, diving down low to the ground, as if it wants you to follow it.

Wraith

The throwing weapons strike the wolves even as Carrady's voice comes through on your earpiece.

"I'm not too sure. Obviously, they aren't natural, which leaves only a superhuman as the culprit. Police scanners in the area are talking about the attacks being random, but with a small amount of purpose, if that makes sense. They think that the attacks are more like the work of a terrorist than a criminal; intended to strike fear. Hold on, something from a chopper overlooking the city. They say that they can see a swarm of those bat-things emerging from somewhere near the Central Park Zoo. And what looks like a person wearing dark clothing exiting the area, heading south towards Times Square."

You're currently in the docks area of Brooklyn facing Liberty Island. It'll take about two hours to get to Times Square, but if you have your car here it'll take about ten minutes.

Puck

The wolves and armadillo struggle against your arms, but are ultimately ineffectual and are easily subdued.

"Looks like it wants us to follow it."

"Indeed. Almost certainly straight into an ambush."

"It would probably be the smart play not to follow it, yeah?"

"Yeah. Or at least, to approach with stealth and scout the situation before revealing ourselves."

"Yep. Just one problem with that whole plan though?"

"Is there? Do tell."

"I...simply am not afraid of these guys."

"Oh. Well in that case!"

The twins bounded along after the bat at speed, their movements a graceful dance as they leaped and whirled - and struck, coming down on it again hand in hand, twirling and dipping and coming up with hard strikes. Kelly focused her powers through their dance, to draw in any hostiles that might be nearby, while Kyle sharpened their senses in preparation for oncoming attacks.

Move: Chase the bat!

Standard: Attack the bat with Hypercognitive Attunement and Inspiring Performance, at [roll0]. On a hit, Toughness DC 28 vs. Damage.

In addition, regardless of whether that hits or misses, the bat and all other hostiles that are within 30' must make a DC 23 Dodge save. Any who fail (this is Sense-dependent, so there is no half effect), must then make a DC 23 Will save vs. Vulnerable/Defenseless/Controlled.

Kelly and Kyle, and any non-hostiles within 30', receive a Deflect at 1d10+23 this round. The Deflect bonus for any given target is lowered by 1 per point the target's Toughness exceeds 13.

Current Status: Defended (1d10+23).

At Superwoman's declination to respond, Live Wire gives a shrug. Alien etiquette, amiright?

Still, this is strange. These things are attacking randomly, but they are obviously just pawns. Someone or something bigger is behind this, and the sooner they find that out the sooner they can stop this. He concentrates but a moment and gathers strength.

In a burst of motion he explodes forward. He pinballs between the two bats before going on to run through the city again. This time, he makes a note of where the monsters seem to be coming from, and tries to form a guess of where the source may be.

Using Move-By Action here.

Standard action: Use Lightning Strikes Twice, Multiattack for -2 on both, All-Out/Power Attacking at -5/+5 for a total of DC 28 Damage with Secondary Effect, and a DC 23 Fort vs Impaired/Disabled with Secondary Effect on the first bat that Live Wire attacks (it does not have Multiattack).

Bat #1: [roll0]
Bat #2: [roll1]

Move action: Platform Flight through the city, 4,000 miles in a round, Flight 20 and Quickness 20 hopefully allowing him to use an Investigation check to guess at where the action's coming from.

Investigation: [roll2]

Superwoman narrowed her eyes as her fists just seemed to pass through wind - the bat-things swooping to either side to avoid her bone-crushing blows.

Snorting in irritation, Superwoman kept herself close as the permeability of her visor allowed for a jet of cold to stream out from her lungs - the freezing temperature dousing the bats and working to crystalise them mid-flight.

ooc:
Keeping near the bats; Superwoman is using her Arctic Breath.

They need to take a DC 23 Dodge save vs 1st degree Vulnerable and 2nd Degree Immobilised, and they're now in Extreme Cold conditions (if it matters). It's a 60 foot Cone effect so she's positioning herself to catch both of them in it.

"Ugh."

He jumped down from the rafter, relying now on his athletic prowess to survive the fall. Standing over the stunned and physically incapacitated wolves, Charlie nodded to himself.

-

Thud!

"That should do it. Even if they wake up, it'll be very hard to break those ropes. And if they do, they'll have to break the glass. Then they'll drown."

Tapping his earpiece onto silent, the Wraith made a run to the edge of his speedboat and leaped back onto the dock.

"Deploy suit, submerge to fifteen."

On cue, a particular side panel of his naval craft opened up and violently ejected a large black cube-shaped device, covered in glowing lights. It had small thrusters on either side steadying it, and it floated over to him. At the same time it was changing, unfolding and opening up. His scientific prowess wasn't nearly adequate to process exactly how the many functions of the device worked; he barely kept up as panels and pieces flipped out and clicked together and started to take shape. In just a couple seconds, a full humanoid suit of body armour was floating in front of him, coming down to land in front of him with its front side open and its limbs spread out. Even as Charlie was stepping into his mech suit, he could hear the speedboat's ceiling panels flip up and lock into place over it as it submerged underwater with his captured targets. A crimson red HUD came alive in front of him, status bars and radar tech taking over his natural vision.

"Divert power to thrusters."

On cue fire began to spew from the feet and hands, lifting him up into the air. From there Wraith took off into the sky, getting up into cloud cover before blasting towards Times Square.

By double moving, I can go at 120 miles per hour in a straight line. I'm guessing that's faster than the car, even if its top speed was higher, because I don't have to worry about traffic?

Aranea makes her way over to one of the wolf packs and lets loose at them from the air, spewing a veritable plague of wasps to seek them out and sting them in their vulnerable spots...assuming they had any.

Switching Attack Array to AP4 as a free action. Moving over there as a move action. Using AP4 as a standard action.

AP4 creates a cone 120 ft in length, width, and height. This cone of flying venomous insects bites and stings at enemies only (does not effect allies or civilians). Each affected enemy makes a DC 23 Dodge check; success halves the effect rounding down for future saves. Enemies must then make a DC 23 Fortitude check to avoid being affected (DC 16 if they succeeded on the Dodge check). If they failed the Fortitude check, they must make a DC 28 Toughness check against the Damage (DC 21 if they succeeded on the Dodge check)

Your attack misses the first bat, as it too dodges out of the way. The second bat, however, is not so lucky. It takes a few hundred punches to the wing and falls out of the sky, incapacitated by your attack. Small bolts of electricity flicker over its body as it plunges into the water.

You shoot forward into the night, your legs propelling you at speeds unmatched by the police aircraft flying over the city. Monsters seem to be everywhere, but your reconnaissance flight over the city shows that it definitely seems as though they are coming from the Central Park area.

Superwoman
Above New York, New York 10:56PM Local Time

The cone of cold air crystallises the water molecules in the air, making what looks like hail fall into the ocean below you. One of the bats has already fallen to Live Wire's attack, however, the remaining one is as agile as ever, and easily ducks out of your breath attack, diving down once more before reaching the city. It ducks and weaves through the urban jungle in an attempt to lose you.

Aranea
New York 10:56PM Local Time

Your swarm of bugs is unleashed far too quickly for the wolves to react, and they are hit by a veritable plague of insects. Each of them takes damage, being bitten, stung and poisoned dozens of times a second. Within seconds, they all fall to the ground, unconscious. This part of the city is safe for now.

Resonance and Harmony

The attack again misses, as the bat ducks out of the way just in time. It pulls up, flying up to the tops of the buildings as you land in a deserted street full of abandoned cars. In an instant, a pack of wolves surrounds you, slowly pawing their way towards you, snarling in anticipation of what is about to happen.

First of all, roll initiative for the wolf pack attack. Secondly, here is the first map of the game. (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1kSHtvC4D5YFxReQu4ApLJ0fL9gsx4AcAxobPYsOwndA/edit?usp=sharing) As you can see, Resonance and Harmony have landed on a street surrounded by cars. The wolves have come out of the woodworks and surrounded you. And now they're named for convenience.

Wraith
Times Square, New York 10:56PM Local Time

Your suit makes the trek to Times Square in barely a minute. There's something to be said for personal jet boots when trying to navigate metropolises. You land right in the centre of the square, to find people huddling in corners of buildings. Surprisingly, there aren't many of the creatures here. About three hundred feet from you is three of the wolves, who are stalking around in search of more prey. You hear the sound of gunshots, pretty close from what you can tell. Maybe police, maybe civilian.

Suddenly, what looks like a swarm of metal shards comes in from the direction of Central Park. It whirls around the square, as if looking for something, then coalesces into a man, wearing a leather jacket with an unfortunate haircut that looks like he did it himself. He leers at you, grinning dementedly.

"He said there'd be some of you to play with."

The man's skin melts and becomes gunmetal grey as it splinters off into little shards, becoming a whirling vortex of shrapnel.

Hissing under her breath again as she froze one of the things in mid-flight, Superwoman rocketed forward full pelt unto the one that got away to lay an hail of armored fists into the back of a bat. Not wanting to murder the creature, she held her punches a little...but she wanted the thing out cold.

Should she be successful in her offence, then above the city-streets the black-armored Superwoman would ensare the bat-creature in one hand and turn herself about; with a sonic-Boom! she'd catapult away towards the Statue of Liberty, her left hand firmly seized of the bat-creature by the scruff of its neck.

ooc:

Rapid Strikes again vs Half the bats active reflex defense.

If she hits she's using Fast Grab to make a Grab (DC 32), like last time, she's grabbing it and then using Move-by Attack to travel back to the Statue of Liberty where the third bat was - her current one in tow (it gets another resist at -5 penalty).

All-out Attack for -5 defense + 5 to attack, and sinking Favorite Environment (Aerial) into attack as well.

Attack: [roll0] vs the bats halved active Parry.

That's a Crit. And if 33 beats the bats Parry by more than 5, she gets +5 damage from multiattack. So DC 42 toughness save.

Unimpressed by the shrapnel man, the suited Wraith rose a finger and pointed towards the nearby wolves.

"I'm here to investigate their appearance. Do you know anything on the subject?"

It was a trick. On his raised forearm, if his target cared to notice, was a tiny blinking light. It represented one of his stun grenades being broken down and chemically refused into something far more potent. While still a knockout weapon, this variant was almost lethal for ordinary civilians; not for use except against hostile metahumans.

As soon as the man across from him showed any sort of hostility, the energized compound would blast away and he'd have to get through it before he made his move.

Central Park, New York 10:56PM Local Time

You speed through the park, searching for the source of the mutated creatures. You're beginning to give up hope that you'll ever find anything when you notice a group of about three of the wolves exiting a small abandoned building. A closer inspection of the building reveals that the wolves are exiting through a small hole in the building's wall. You enter quickly, then dash through the building in search of more of the beasts.

In one of the southern rooms, there is a small area that could have been a laboratory when the building was actually in use. Now it sits, grimly and mouldy, with virtually no signs of occupation other than the animals that are currently locked up in cages inside and the gaunt man in the white lab coat.

You rush into another area of the facility before anyone can spot you.

Disregard the stealth and perception rolls in the dice thread. That was for something else before I remembered that you were going to hide in another part of the area. Map (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1supSLnGyNI7rGVD7jRsZzEjp0Km-Nzcp1xVwP2qZniY/edit?usp=sharing)

This time, the bat has no chance of avoiding the attack as you rocket forward. It cannot even hope to dodge the rapid attack, and is easily subdued, allowing you to capture it with your free hand. In response to the metahuman approaching, Wraith automatically threw both his arms in front of him, getting into a slightly crouched stance as a forcefield of dark red energy materialised in front of him. The flurry of spinning blades clashed against his energy field and failed to make it give, bouncing off piece after piece with a shower of sparks each time. On his scanner screen he noted the intensity of the attack with a raised eyebrow and nodded to himself. This was probably the most powerful opponent he'd ever faced, at least in terms of raw offensive force, regardless of whether or not it got through his barrier.

"What are you doing?!" His modulated voice rose over the clashing blades.

As the attack came to an end he disengaged the shield and planted the balls of his feet into the ground, using his enhanced servoes to spin around at high speed and swing out at the metahuman with an empowered backhand. He continued to move in with a low kick to the gut before initiating another superpowered punch to the face. The attacks were merely a mental distraction; at the same time, he was activating his full scanning program to find a weakness in the man's defences. After he'd thrown a few attacks he switched on his jet boots and blasted himself backwards over the ground, sliding to a stop a few metres back.

"This isn't gonna end well for you. Just give it up."

The twins scoffed at the time it took the wolves to close. They could run circles around this lot if they wanted to. It wouldn't even be a thing.

But, I mean, come on. Where's the fun in that?

With Kyle's powers enhancing their speed and clarity of perception, the wolves seemed to approach in slow-motion. They easily discerned their angles of attack. Kelly whirled and dipped as one wolf lunged at her, slipping beneath its claws in a graceful maneuver. Kyle merely took the slightest lean back he could, the wolf's claws passing by fractions of an inch as he stared it down.

"Hey Batty!" he called up. "Stick around! You can lead us into another ambush to wipe out when we're done with these guys!"

"He'll be the best fighter on our team!" Kelly enthused with a big smile.

The twins executed a short rush forward at one of the wolves, coming in hard with fists drawn back, and lashing ou-no! It was a feint! All a feint! In a sudden move they pivoted and twirled around each other, coming at the wolves on either side with sudden swift blows! Kelly began to sing (it was a bit hard to say without instrumental accompaniment, but the best description would still have to be a J-pop rendition of "Who Let The Dogs Out"), pouring her powers into her voice, while Kyle continued hastening their senses, keeping the battle seeming to move in slow motion to give them plenty of time to avoid the wolves.

No! I'm finally in a position where I could actually use Redirect, and the fact that it's so hard to actually set up using that advantage convinced me not to take it! I am undone!

Move: Feint Wolf 3 at [roll0].

Standard: Attack Wolves 3 and 6 using Independent Attack, Hypercognitive Attunement, and Inspiring Performance. Power Attack for 2.
Wolf 3: [roll1].

Regardless of it they hit or miss, all wolves must roll Dodge DC 23. Any that fail must roll Will DC 23 vs. Vulnerable/Defenseless/Controlled. Controlled wolves are forced to attack each other to the best of their ability, All Out Attacking for the maximum.

As Live Wire runs through, he takes a gander at the surroundings in the moldy former-laboratory. If this is where the animals are emerging from, there must be something here that creates them. And this scientist must be involved. 'Cause if he ain't, it's either a gigantic coincidence, or Live Wire's finally lost it even worse than normal.

The lightning shifts around him, and two long arms made of pure electricity emerge from his shoulders. He zips into the room, smack in the middle of the wolves and scientist.

"Oh, don't mind me," he says to the scientist in a voice of pure nonchalance. The lightning arms fly out, striking through the cages' bars to hit the mutated animals. The arms retract and Nate turns to face the scientist. "Gotta do some vermin control here. Looks like an infestation."

"Well, that took forever" Muttered Puck as the last of the beasties finally blacked out. She collected the trio of unconcious beast-guys together, and then snagged a broken streetlamp pole from their earlier battle, using her buffed-up muscularture to wrap the metal frame around the three. Probably wouldn't hold them for long if they woke up before the proper authorities could show up, but it was better than nothing.

Speaking of showing up, there wasn't any sign of a press truck or anything like that. Which was werid, because again, it took foooreeeveeeer to choke out the monsters. Somebody should have gotten here by now. And Bugsy had already buzzed off to who knows where.

Her gut said that something was up.

A quick shift, and Puck lost her extra limbs, redirecting them to her back where they formed a sleek retro-jetpack, which took her rocketing upwards, above the city skyline. The wolves look as though they're moving through molasses to you, whose punches are quick enough to land multiple times on their bodies. None of them are tough enough to survive your attack unharmed, and most fall to the ground, with one visibly being knocked unconscious.

The scientist looks around the area, not even seeming to be that interested in the fact that you just took out some of the wolves in the cages, or even that you're there. A ball of what looks like a grey, sticky fluid is caught in one of his hands.

"They don't understand, they don't understand. All I want is to be left alone with my creations."

He shuffles over to one of the cages, where you can only just see a little girl tied into a corner, her face glistening with tears. The man kneels down to her, gently attempting to calm her down, and touches the hand with the fluid to her face. In an instant, her body stretches and grows, causing the girl to scream out in pain, deforming until she appears more like a gorilla than a human. The scientist steps to the side and opens the cage, letting the gorilla free. In an instant, she charges forward, swinging towards Live Wire.

Wraith

The blades bounce harmlessly off your field, though they do manage to carve some small, insignificant chunks out of it. At a perceived decrease in the battering of the blades, you leap forward, spinning around to deliver a blistering attack at the superhuman. The attacks do nothing, however, and the field simply laughs.

"What's the matter? Never tried to swat a fly?"

You jet back, but the superhuman is just as fast, if not quicker, the blades that make up his form whipping through the air aerodynamically after you. The field of blades still rotates like they're in orbit around a weight, scratching notches in your armour, but this time some of the blades seem to be more directed, as if the superhuman is aiming them towards specific parts of your armour that look weak.

Just as before, DC 24 v Dodge/Parry and DC 29 v Toughness. This effect repeats as long as either Bladestorm remains in his metal form or as long as Wraith remains close to Bladestorm. Also, damage roll for his next attack: [roll0] if it hits Wraith, DC 25 v damage. In addition, the Assessment makes it appear that the superhuman is weaker than you in all aspects.

Though it is confused by your trick, the wolf that you feinted at still possesses enough presence of mind to block your attack, a feat also achieved by the other wolf. In conjunction with that, one of the wolves dodges your mental attack, while another is mentally strong enough to hold it off. However, the other wolves aren't strong enough to do that, and turn on their opponents.

Just as the group begins to tear into each other, you hear gunshots ring out from behind you and see little clouds of blood form in the air where the bullets hit the pack of wolves.

Police officers, dressed in full SWAT gear, quickly make their way towards you, calling out to each other in slang you don't understand. One of them walks up to you, his gun still aiming towards you as he nervously asks, "I sure as hell hope that neither of you are with them."

You stretch up into the air and look around, seeing only destruction and violence. There looks to be a fight going on near the Statue of Liberty, and you can see two things fighting in Times Square.

Nate's eyes widen when he realizes what the man intends to do. "No, stop!" he shouts, but even he's not fast enough to stop the man from touching the little girl with that strange substance. The electricity-man watches in horror as the girl mutates and transforms, and he wonders how many of these gorillas he's made before. Experimenting on wolves and bats to make these creatures is one thing. That alone would label the man a goddamned sociopath.

But this...this man doesn't deserve to be called human.

"You're a worse monster than your creations," he growls. In less than a fraction of a second he appears in front of the scientist. He places his hands on either side of the man's head so his palms face the scientist's temples. Electricity crackles between them, and the man's brains are scrambled viciously.

Move action: Stand next to the scientist at J19

Standard action: Use Shock Overload, All-Out and Power Attack at -5/+5: [roll0] vs DC 29 Will vs Entranced+Vulnerable/Stunned+Defenseless. If possible, I'll forego the Damage portion, because I want the guy conscious so he can be interrogated.

Status: Enraged, Dodge/Parry at 13 this round
HP: 1
Luck: 6/6

The twins glanced sidelong at each other, bemused expressions on their faces, as the police pointed their guns at them. It was kinda adorable.

"Nah, we're cool," Kelly said.

"Any word on locations that need assistance, officers?" Kyle asked. It'd be more efficient than running randomly around the city punching anything furry.

Snatching the last bat with her left hand, Superwoman shot off from the Statue of Liberty's orbit. Her black-clad figure rushed to a halt between the buildings of Manhattan island - dark cape fluttering behind her and a bat-thing in each hand. Staring down at the scene before her, she looked as to where she might apply herself next.

Your attack seems to work, as the scientist is quickly electrocuted and falls against you, stunned. The gorilla-creature doesn't like that, however. She swings a massive fist towards you, not using any pretence of skill or technique, simply relying on brute force.

Gorilla moves to cell next to Live Wire and attacks with unarmed. [roll0]. On a hit, DC 28 Toughness.

At your words the policeman visibly relaxes, but he remains as professional as possible.

"As far as we can tell, this sector is clear. The city's in chaos, but right now we're just starting to get on top of things. Your assistance is not required, but it would be extremely helpful."

He presses a finger to his ear, then mutters a few quick words into his earpiece, before turning back to the rest of his team and calling, "Let's move. Command just spotted a pack of them a few klicks north."

He turns back to you. "Are you two coming or staying here?"

You see chaos across the city. Fighting is visible everywhere. You can see a group of human paramilitary surrounding two young-looking humans, a light as bright as lightning further into the centre of the city and two men making their way towards a small building. The two men would be entirely unremarkable if not for the fact that they walk past several packs of mutated creatures without being harassed or attacked by the things.

"Third option, we'll beat you there!" Kelly answered cheerily.

"Feel free to place bets on how many we'll have down by the time you arrived," Kyle told them.

"Smart money's on 'all of them'," Kelly added, and then whoosh they were gone, once again bounding through the city at Mach Several, heading north to search around for more targets. If a quick run-through didn't find them any, they'd head up to the roof of the tallest building in the vicinity, and focus their senses to try and find imminent peril.

They appeared to have entirely forgotten about the bat. No one said they had the best attention spans.

And they're off. If a quick run-through doesn't find them anything, they'll use Focus Senses to try to find a target, Routining Perception for 26. Specifically, Kyle will be listening for screaming, sounds of combat, etc, and Kelly will be scanning for fear.

Focus Senses is: Senses 9 (Extended Hearing 3, Rapid Hearing 3, Analytical Hearing, Hearing Counters Concealment [Background Noise]); Senses 18 (Ranged Acute Analytical Radius Extended 3 Counters All Concealment Penetrates Concealment Rapid Mental Detect [Emotions]; Limited [One Emotion at a time]); Senses 2 (Direction Sense, Distance Sense).

Hovering between the city skyscrapers, Kar-En watched as the humans, metahumans and....more of the animal creatures? went at it. Resisting the initial impulse to dart forward and help the nearest enemy of her enemy, Kar-en instead found her attention drawn to the two non-chalant individuals who..seemingly...were not drawing the attention of the beast as everyone else was.

Then again...Kar-en herself hadn't drawn their attention, per say, but that was beside the point!

Keeping her distance, Superwomans black-armored figure hovered up-and-above a good hundred meters or so from the pair; her amazing perceptions allowing her to keep a track on them wherever they went, her X-ray vision ensuring that no sudden passing bus allowed for their dramatic escape.

Live Wire grunts in pain as the gorilla-ized human's fist crushes down upon him. He can feel his shoulder start to dislocate, but the damage is not as bad as it could have been. He regards the monstrosity with a good amount of sorrow. "I'm so sorry. I'll see if you can be turned back, but I can't help you now. I'm sorry..."

He reaches down to the unresponsive man at his feet. Snagging him by the armpit, Live Wire drags him out of the laboratory and through the city. He taps the commlink in his ear, and the commlink in Resonance's hand sparks to life. "Resonance, Harmony, there is a laboratory in Central Park from which the monstrosities are coming. I've captured a madman who mutated a young girl into a gorilla and am taking him to the chief of police. If you see any policemen, please let them know."

In a rush of electricity, Live Wire searches for the Chief of Police and stops in front of him. "Sir, I have apprehended the man who seems to be responsible for these monstrosities attacking the city," he says, still keeping a tight grip on the stunned man. "He has at least one base in a run down building in Central Park where he is creating them."

Move-by Action: Grab the scientist and run through the city to the Police Chief/Commissioner and inform them of the bad things happening and stuff.
