I love works of fiction with attached theme music, especially when the music is a natural fit for the style, tone, and themes of the work. However, once in a while I see something odd happen: I run into a piece of theme music that seems, to be, like it would have worked better as the theme music for a completely different existing work.
The example on my mind right now is Eternal Return from Dragon's Dogma (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQkkVTsayko). Now, it may just be that I don't really like Dragon's Dogma, but I can't shake the feeling that Eternal Return would have fit better as a theme song for The Wheel of Time (which, yes, is a book series and can't include attached music, but still). It's gotten to the point where when I listen to the song (which I do like), I automatically visualize stuff from The Wheel of Time instead of Dragon's Dogma.
Does anyone else have this experience? What are some examples?
