Stupid question but here we go.

Character is an investigator with 20 intelligence, so is able to create up to 5th level extracts at 1st level (?)
And it says they start knowing 2 1st level formulae plus a number of additional formulae equal to his intelligence modifer. So that would be 7 formulae, but what level can they be? can the additional 5 be any level so long as they can be created? so up to 5th?

On another note, am i correct in assuming there is no way of upping psionic spells known at first level? (for a mesmerist)

No? Not sure where that reasoning even begins. A first level investigator (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/hybrid-classes/investigator) has a single first level extract per day. You also receive bonus extracts (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/basics-ability-scores/ability-scores#TOC-Abilities-and-Spellcasters) for levels you can already create, but only for those levels. A 1st level Investigator with 20 intelligence has 1+2=3 1st level extracts per day, and no other ones.

Probably supposed to be first level, but based on the wording the additional formulae could be of any level. You still wouldn't be able to use them until your get your extract slot on your class table, though.

Not all that familiar with psychic magic. It doesn't look like there's anything built into the class, although I think some feats give additional spells known.

The reasoning was that i was looking at the bonus spells table and being an idiot. Thanks, something did seem wrong about about how i'd done it.

There's the Expanded Arcana (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/general-feats/expanded-arcana) feat, which despite the name can be applied to any sort of spellcasting class with a list of spells known.
