a lich?

I'm referring to a rpg based game where becoming lich is one of the possibilities. It would be cool if it had the classical triad available for the player, fighter, mage, cleric, with the chance to become evil if need be.

Umm... D&D?

As far as I know, in most games where there's such a thing as "a lich", there's nothing particularly difficult about a PC becoming one. Certainly D&D 3.x describes the process and effects quite clearly enough for a PC to do it.

You mean a video game? The only one that comes to mind that sort of qualifies is Ogre Battle 64. But that's a strategy RPG where you acquire a single item that allows you to turn one unit into a Lich late in the game, and by "unit" I mean one of the many generic NPCs that make up your army, not a named character with a backstory and personality. And in that game a Lich is basically just treated as one of the more powerful spellcasting classes in the game, not something with any story consequences to having in your army.

Might and Magic 7 - awesome game - lets your Sorcerer become a Lich in the game's Dark path. Moreover, heavy spellcaster parties like to be in the Dark path as evil blast spells rock.

Diablo 2 lets a Necromancer with full Trangoul set become a lich, sort of.

Heroes of Might and Magic 3 Shadow of Death features a campaign where a guy becomes a Lich and raises fallen armies to become liches. 10/10 Great fun.

In Heroes 4, I think if you selected Necromancy and Chaos Magic, that would result in the Lich class.

All of the newer TES games (Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim) have mods that let you become a lich. Tales of Maj'Eyal gives you the option to become a lich, but isn't really much of a RPG.

Death Magic and Chaos Magic - Necromancy is just a subskill of the former.

Din's Curse (https://www.gog.com/game/dins_curse) (expansion (https://www.gog.com/game/dins_curse_demon_war)). To become a Lich is one of the power of the Necromancer (http://www.soldak.com/Dins-Curse/Classes/Necromancer.html).

The expansions to Neverwinter Nights let you take Prestige Class levels in Pale Master, which turns you undead and makes your avatar look half human/half skeleton with access to negative energy effects as non-spell ablities. It's basically a Lich, in everything but name.

Oblivion, you probably need quite a few mod to make the game enjoyable while at it add also MoE (http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/7902) that allows among other nice things to become a lich. You can see a picture (https://staticdelivery.nexusmods.com/mods/101/images/7902-1-1193485960.jpg).
