Hi!

Due to Finland being Finland, I need to get through our obligatory Swedish course at my university. Because of this I'm spending my October listening only to Swedish music. And performed in Swedish, of course.

So... Bring it on! I don't have much to listen to. Any genre goes, really, though I'm not that into heavy metal right now.

General discussion is also welcome.

Finn's Current playlist:

Kent
Nordman
Mimikry
Landberk
Bo Kaspers Orkester

Given time, I can come up with more but this post took over an hour to make, so it will have to do for now.

My daughter likes Ghost, but they're pretty much metal.

No love for Cornelis Vreeswijk?
He's worth checking out.

Oh man, I know tons of great Swedish bands. I mean, there's Entombed, Dismember, Bloodbath, God Macabre-- don't even get me started on Repugnant, and let's not forget Death Bre--

I'm not that into heavy metal right now.
... shucks.

Hmmm... Just wondering, does anyone know bands kinda like Nordman? I like their folk-ish sound a lot and I guess I'm super into that at the moment.

Thanks for this big list! Definitely a lot to go through.

And I've heard about EBB before! I know I have heard one of their songs before, but it's not Bananakontakt.

Hmm, this will probably take me a couple of listens to get used to it... not exactly my style, but I'm quite sure that there'll be at least a few songs that'll be added to my playlist! Though I've only listened to a bit of the Säkert! album, so there might be something really good in the other releases. We'll see.

Ghost is off limits for me from many perspectives. and we'll leave it at that, no reason to discuss on the forums

Mimikry, for sure. Hjalle is a great lyricist.

Instant thumbs up for this orchestra.

Bo Kaspers Orkester. I really like their lyrics.

Gah, how did I forget them? My mum has a ton of their CDs.

Edit: Oops. Forgot to quote these two.

... shucks.

Not everyone's a winner.

Um... Eldkvarn? Maybe? I think their songs (that I've heard) might fit, but I could be misremembering.

You are welcome. I was trying to cover a width of genres, so I'm probably going to post a few more tomorrow to complement.

Try some Veronica Maggio, this one even comes with text built in :P

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vt6O7nOTkIk

It's not her best song, be I'll be damned if I can find or recall that one now. I just remmeber how awesome it was first time I heard it.

You could try some "Kent" I guess.

I *should* be better at this, it's the music I grew up hearing on radio and mostly Swedish tv after all.

Can't recall any good Nordman stuff either, which is a shame cause I used to really dig that. There's Roger Pontare who has a similar "folksy" type of songs. Digging around a bit look up "Sarek" they run a folksy mix too, and "Drängana" (oh man this takes me back).

For a well rounded Swedish redneck education, try some "Ebba Grön", "Eddie Meduza", "Magnus Uggla" and "Gyllene Tider".

They are, but most Swedish and Finnish (heavy) metal "sing" in English which defeats the purpose of listening to *Swedish* music.

Sabaton's album Carolus Rex is entirely in Swedish, however.

Everything by Finntroll, which is Finnish music but performed in Swedish because Katla spoke Swedish and thought it sounded more trollish.

I used to listen a bit to Swedish punk / hardcore, two bands that come to mind are Totalt Jävla Mörker (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=67eVryzv57A) and Vrävarna (http://www.vravarna.se/). Since you don't want to listen to metal, the first one might be out, and if you don't want to listen to obscenity the second ones are as well. I could dig through my CD collection and see if I can find something more accessible though, if you are interested.

Falconer's "Armod" is all in Swedish. It's probably their best album. Very folkish/folk inspired.

How have we got this far into the thread without anyone mentioning the greatest Swedish pop musicians of all time?

Admittedly, they performed mostly in English, but there are Swedish versions of their songs out there. For instance (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CZ_5xCY44Fo).

Damn you both, Aedilred and SaintRidley :smalltongue:

Mimikry gets a solid 8/10 from me! Some of their albums are really good, some a bit less... but still extremely enjoyable.

Found Landberk just the other day. Really nice peog rock... I need to dig out more of their stuff.

I second Sabaton's Carolus Rex album. It doubles as a history lesson.

The mention of Ghost was funny because I saw both them and Sabaton on the same gig when they were warming up for Iron Maiden, and it was a funny contrast when Ghost singing about the Devil (as usual) was followed by Sabaton playing stuff like this. (https://youtu.be/83KC1DX2N-E)

One of my favorite musical artists is MOVITS!
They're a combination of swing and hip-hop. The music just makes me want to dance

I'm still too new on the forums to post links, but if that genre interested you, one of my favorite songs by them is "Fel Del Av Gården"
