How can I get an avatar?

Look up in the top-right, and click the settings button. Then, go to general settings, and scroll down to the bottom three options: you can either choose one of the normal avatars, or upload your own by pasting a URL into the text box at the bottom.

There are some file size requirements and dimension requirements too - they're listed in the rule somewhere. The file size requirements are pretty safe to ignore, as anything that fits within the dimension requirements and is in a format that isn't completely bloated will fit within them.
