Looking for a magic item

In 3.5.

Is it possible to get a magic shield that floats around to protect the "wielder?" One that would benefit a melee character with a two-handed weapon?

The Animated (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/magicArmor.htm#animated) shield property does exactly that, and benefits everyone. All it does is reduce the number of hands needed to wield the shield from 1 to 0.

Dwarven Buckler Axe can be used as a shield while still leaving your hands free. Also, it doesn't incur the -1 attack penalty that other bucklers do.

The Flying property (+1 enhancement, Magic of Faerun) can be added to a shield so that it floats around as an animated object. My Flying Force Surfboard (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showsinglepost.php?p=10294124&postcount=5) might be worth a look.
