Hi all

So this relates to my crazy new group. Think I have most things ironed out, party is gearing up for fighting. All fixed.

The Bard was amazed that he can multiclass. Kinda concerned he wants to take one level of EVERYTHING.

At the moment, he is looking to take a level of cleric at level 2. But he has poor wis, so I thought why not try the CD favoured soul. Its not the best class, but if any group was low op, this one will be.

Heres the thing. A Favoured soul casts off Charisma, but their save comes off their Wis... that seems odd.

Its also not on the errata. Am I just reading it wrong or is that really weird, if not unique?

There are a few classes like that. The Spirit Shaman is the same, I believe. From WotC's perspective, it was probably to balance out the spontaneous casting lol

Seeing as the class is already weaker than Cleric, it's reasonable to just houserule that it all keys off Charisma.

Yeah a few classes do that. If he is just dipping a single level he may get better mileage from the cleric domains. Some of them can be very handy or converted into those fears from complete champ (devotion feats? Im groggy from meds atm. Someone correct me please). His high cha would mean he will be able to power them.

Their is a handbook on dipping a level of cleric.

You can also add Archivist to the list of classes that have dual casting stats.

I allow (a slightly modified version of) the 3rd party Lost Tradition (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showsinglepost.php?p=10203238&postcount=2) feat in my games for this exact reason.

Expanding on this, maybe it's not the best idea to move him away from a solid cleric dip and towards a weak favored soul dip. Cleric is good, with or without a lot of wisdom. You get two whole domains, domains that can be traded for devotion feats, and then you can also pull in cloistered cleric (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/classes/variantCharacterClasses.htm#clericVariantCloistere dCleric), which basically means three feats. And you also get access to a pile of first level spells, for whatever that's worth. A cleric dip tends to be more melee oriented than caster oriented, because you can do stuff like animal devotion or law devotion for some combat prowess, travel devotion for free movement, knowledge devotion to make up for the BAB loss, or magic domain for crazy wand use, but bards can be kinda melee oriented. Here's a link (http://brilliantgameologists.com/boards/index.php?topic=2773.0) to that handbook, by the way.
