So I'm playing a goblin rogue and about to hit 6th level. I have a -1 mod from my charisma and I'm picking up the leadership feat for RP reasons. I am however wrestling with what my cohort should be as I'm thinking either an control mage focusing more on mind manipulation, or a diplomat. I'm currently building a mafia without the use of leadership through RP and my GM wants me to take it to represent that they are loyal to me. The GM doesn't allow psionics but everything in the completes and PHB 1-2 DMG 1-2 and MM, other sources are on a case by case basis.

Also the GM runs a second campaign in this world with someone who is currently attempting to be an industrious rogue, and they keep trying to lord their potential power over me. I'm also looking to take this person down and would like to try and find a way to use the cohort to advance my "business" interests.

thrallherd (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/prestigeClasses/thrallherd.htm) has you covered. it'll be henchmen all the way down.

1. The GM does not allow psionics.
2. Thrallherd is impossible to get on a 4th-level (at most) cohort.

Beguiler can do both. If you need more utility spells, steer him towards Sandshaper. If you need more blasty-stuff, pick up a reserve feat for him.
