View Full Version : Rules Q&A Waves of Blood, Or What The Heck does a duration of Instantaneous & 1 Round mean?

So while going through Conjuration (Creation) spells, I found Waves of Blood (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spells/w/waves-of-blood), and was stymied about what exactly its listed duration meant.

My initial thought was that the blood created was instantaneous in duration and then the slick spot left by the blood or at least it being slick enough to proc an Acrobatics check and sickening creatures prone in that area had a duration of 1 round, but it seems weird that if that were the case that the spell would list that 1 round duration in the duration and not just have it be covered by the "see text."

Then again, editing can always take a turn for the weird/bad.

So, thoughts?

Bull rush is instantaneous. Slick is one round duration, then it dissipates.
Pretty clear cut, imo

It does say in the text that:

"The area covered by the cone remains slick for 1 round, requiring a successful DC 10 Acrobatics check from any creature attempting to move within it (as if moving on uneven ground)."

I assume the rest of the effects are instantaneous.
