View Full Version : Error, Error?

In comic 747, Haley mentions that Roy have to buy a lot of d10s. As I understand it, she is talking about his new HD. If she is, the Giant made an error since an undead uses D12s for HD, not D10s. And since Roy already is a fighter, his HDs is already D10.

What do you think, am I right? If not, please clarify.

It is a reference to the roleplaying game Vampire The Masqerade, by White Wolf. In this game you need a lot of d10 whenever you roll for anything.

See also the main thread where this has been clarified already.

No, the joke is about World of Darkness and more specifically, "Vampires: The Masquerade", 'cause WoD's RPG system uses a lot of D10s.

Ha-ha-ha! I never knew that. I'd assumed that an undead's HD were d10s but 'tseems I'm mistaken.

If Haley had said he would need a lot of d6's, what would she fear he'd been turned into?

Full fat scone to whoever gets this one.

Hi, hi OK you got me. My only defense is that I was late for practice and had to type and run.

Some horror from one of the West End Games. Necroscope or a similar setting, I would presume.

Mind you, West End Games isn't the only system to use d6 Only. Quite a few other RPGs do it as well.

ETA:::: Upon checking, you're referring to this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghostbusters_%28role-playing_game%29), aren't ya?

I.e. a Ghost.

Nah. SW:RPG Jedi were not THAT bad. The only time I remember rolling THAT many dice in SWRPG was if someone burned a force point on a Lightsaber Combat enhanced attack roll. (2x (Sense+Melee:Lightsaber )).

On the other hand, I think just about every Decking roll in 1st ed Shadowrun was just sick:
8-10d cyberdecks+ 5-10d Decking Skill+ 8d-10d programs.. without burning any other resources.

Good answers all, but what I'm looking for is a bit more old school, and a specific thing, one we may even see in OOtS sometime. (I don't believe we have, but I'm not an encyclootspedia.)

I have no idea what you're referring to (I was gonna say a superhero from HERO System), but I do know that I demand someone create an EncyclOotSpedia.

Doesn't MAGE use a lot of d6? Like a whole mess of 'em? So what, he'd be the Matrix?

Hmm... A small dog, wheelbarrow, old-style sports car, boot, iron or top hat?

Hmm, did skellies used to be a d6 critter? It's been way, way too long since I actually played anything but 3/3.5...

Ding ding ding! We have a winner! Come on up and get your scone on a doily, dragoncmd.

The answer is a troll. The old Tunnels and Trolls game used nothing but d6, and combat was like (your level d6 + your mods) vs (same thing on your opponent). Whoever had a higher number put that # of hits on his/her opponent. After you got up around 10th level or so, every combat roll was like an avalanche of d6's.

My apologies, as I haven't any tea for you.

A GURPS character?

Nah, GURPS characters don't need many D6's until you get into sci-fi.
