How much should a slave cost?

There's no RAW for it, but when it came up for us we ruled it as 100 x Daily Hireling cost + 0.1 x Daily Hireling cost / day (upkeep, food, etc.)

Lomond has the price on the right scale. But from a rp perspective, an npc with 3plus pc levels might actively resist remaining a slave. A slave mentality isn't really compatible with acquiring heroic levels of personal ability.

Most slaves will tend to resist remaining slaves, it's just that a slave with multiple levels will be harder to contain.

Ultimately, the cost of purchase for a creature should be only a small part of the overall cost. Keeping someone imprisoned is already not cheap, if you also want them to work, it gets much tougher.

More seriously, though, it is very dependent on the culture from which the slave is being purchased, the skill competency of the slave, the job/task the slave is going to be used for, the drop in productivity in the job/task the slave performs for the current owner, the political impact, etc.

For example, an unskilled laborer in a society that regularly uses commoners as slaves for unskilled labor is probably fairly cheap. Compare that to a society in which teachers are slaves and difficult to come by, in which case they would be prized assets to the owner.
