I recently found a rather interesting article(s) (http://web.archive.org/web/20090602164004/http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/dnd/20061020a and http://www.d20resources.com/future.d20.srd/mecha/) that show how to make mechas in D&D. I felt it went well with my artificer, and my DM approved it, so I made a mech. My only problem is that since I don't play d20 Future, I don't exactly know what to do with the purchase DCs. I thought I'd add them together, but if I do that, even a simple large mech with allumisteel armor, no weapons or anything else, comes up to 70. If someone who's more experienced with d20 whatever it is can tell me how to do it that would be greatly appreciated.

there is something within the existing rules (http://archive.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/cw/20070212a) that's up your alley.

I knew about the clockwork armor but I would like to try to make the d20 Future mecha rules/conversion work.

You should look up Dragonmech

PF has the synthesist, which I think may help with the aesthetic, but that's PF.

Efffigey seige crab comes to mind. We did a price comparison a while back here and it cost less than the Apparatus of Qualish. I think we even got a few spell turrets onto it.

Armor and other components are purchased separately from the base mecha chassis. A Large mecha constructed from Duralloy (the cheapest non-price-modifying option) is DC 40, translating to 32,500 gp. Resilium armor is a separate DC 25, which translates to... I'm not sure. The table only goes down to 36 for some reason. Is there a table for DC 1-35 in some other source?

Might not be cannon but....

Of course, then you come up with a conversion rate of dollars to gp, and then you're set.

Also, here's a discussion. They mention some page numbers and what have you. Maybe it will help.

Canon. Cannons are something you shoot.

Urban Arcana says a gp is worth about $20 and then tells you to reference table 7-1 in d20 modern to get purchase DC's for magic items. Just run that in reverse and pick something in the appropriate range for the purchase DC of the mech.

Bear in mind that d20 Modern (and d20 Future) Purchase DCs are essentially logarithmic (i.e., +8 purchase DC = x10 gold piece cost). The proper way to do the conversion is to take each item's purchase DC separately, one at a time convert them to a gp value using that table (http://web.archive.org/web/20090602164004/http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/dnd/20061020a), then add up all those gp values together.

I'm gonna use the simplest option: adding 8 means multiplying by 10 and subtracting 8 means dividing by 10.

LordOfCain: Also, you can access the WotC stuff using archive.wizards.com, like http://archive.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/dnd/20061020a. That way, you need not rely on the Wayback Machine to work.

Righto. With that in mind, what's your budget? It's time for some mech optimization.

Level 12 WBL as well as being an artificer. DM ruled that crafting works for mechas.
