I have a player who's expressed interest in playing some kind of goo PC. What options are there in 3.5 or PF?

Just slap a template that boosts INT to a usable level like Fiendish on a pre-existing ooze-type creature.

Dreamscarred Press's April Augmented 2016 has the Gelatinous Cube monster and monster levels. Refluff it as an amorphous Ooze. And, I'm fairly sure you don't *have* to take all the levels, although they are pretty good for a melee build...Well, aside from like not being able to use two-handed weapons (unless you take a feat to be able to transform to a medium humanoid), and effectively has a worse version of the Monk unarmed attack that can't be scaled by normal means, not even having the potential of enhancing the unarmed attack with an enchanted gauntlet, which some GMs allow (because you aren't using unarmed attack - you're using slam attack).

But it's got paralysis, and the DC on paralysis is actually pretty sick because of the boosted Con. +20 Con by level 4, with the DC being 10 + 1/2 the gelatinous cube’s character level + the gelatinous cube’s Constitution modifier.

And ...2d6 rounds of paralysis per melee attack is pretty good at incapacitating enemies, even if you don't do much damage (given that they count as having 0 Str and Dex, and are helpless).

Hm. That might work.

Now that I'm in front of a PC I did some digging myself.

I found this:
https://dnd-wiki.org/wiki/Oozebound_(3.5e_Prestige_Class)
(which is the "reprint" of what's mentioned here (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?145658-Ooze-character))

And Dr.#304 has the Awaken Ooze spell.

They don't seem quite like what I imagined, but they do give me ideas as to what an Ooze PC might look like.

But ofc there's inconsistencies. For example the Awaken Ooze spell says that it becomes an aberration, but keeps all of the characteristics of an ooze, except immunity to mind-affecting(which is the only logical part here since it now has a mind).
I'm inclined to have Aberration's basic features(HD/BAB/saves), but Ooze traits(except ofc mind immunity).

I wonder what LA would be appropriate for such a character.
My current thought is +1, maybe +2-3 with some of the more amusing ooze abilities such as split, englulf, paralysis.

I wonder how to potentially handle transparency on the player side. Any ideas?
Maybe as constant concealment? Or Hide in plain sight?

I had a reasonably balanced Dralasite race written up somewhere... I'll go look for it.

EDIT: Found it: http://www.enworld.org/forum/showthread.php?173656-Oozeforged!

Oh. Thanks so much for that one.

Savage Species also has the gelatinous template, to turn anything into an ooze ooze-like aberration.

You can straight up level adjust a summoning ooze. They have an int score normally. just have them learn Drow Sign Language and boom, communication (our local group gives them homebrew oozish as a language).

A lvl1 Awakened Living Spell should work, as long as you agree on a not-so-silly spell(or combination of spells).

Both Skitterhaunt and Gelatinous templates are unplayable. They'd have to be reworked for PC use.

My Orthagonel Velodrake (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showsinglepost.php?p=16886796&postcount=204) entry for Iron Chef LIII: Zerth Cenobite (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?325164-Iron-Chef-Optimization-Challenge-in-the-Playground-LIII) was a gelatinous cube. I kinda just thumbed my nose at the level adjustment issues.

This post (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showsinglepost.php?p=10529104&postcount=4) lists some oozes that are already intelligent. LA is still mostly "Ha ha *THPPBPTPTPTTPPT*!"

Here's some more ooze-related links (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showsinglepost.php?p=10628776&postcount=11).

...and in Monsters of Faerun, there's a race called Ghaunadan that is sorta "what if oozes were people?" but according to the PGtF they're really aberrations.

There's the Gelatinous Cube monster class that can be found here (http://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/179672/April-Augmented?hot60=0&src=hottest_filtered). It's in a free PDF that Dreamscarred Press made as an April Fool's joke.

Why is skitterhaunt unplayable? It doesn't list a Level Adjustment, ergo, no change from the base form. It's not LA: -, which would make it unplayable.

It has no Int score.

If you want to add a blood magic flavour to your ooze, you can use the Blood Magus class I reworked. Might be slightly unbalanced though.

It has no Int score.

Very good point, missed that. You'll have to make it Fiendish then.

Half-Dragon also works (Raises INT to 3)

Has anyone mentioned the squole (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/races/3rd-party-races/alluria-publishing/squole)?

It is 3rd party Pathfinder but the fluff is that they are humanoid oozes.

If you want to play a skitterhaunt hairy spider, you can also use the sentry ooze template from dungeonscape rather than fiendish

Also, Ooze Para-Genasi in Dragon #297;
PrCs: Oozemaster in Masters of the Wild, Slime Lord in Player's Guide to Faerūn, and Thrall of Juiblex in Book of Vile Darkness
