I've decided to try a one shot featuring a heavily customized version of Haunting of Harrowstone.
My idea is to have a dozen or so pre-made 1st level characters fitting horror movie stereotypes;
1. Town Hero / Paladin
2. Jock / Barbarian
3. Cheerleader / Bard
4. Nerd / Wizard
5. Virgin / Cleric
6. Preppy / Cavalier
7. Stoner / Alchemist
8. Bad Boy / Rogue
9. Bad Girl / Witch
10. Token Minority / Elf Ranger
The idea is that as each character gets killed off, the player just grabs another one.
The prisoners of Harrowstone are altered to fit more into the slasher archetypes;
1. Splatter man/ Freddy-ish illusionist
2. The Lopper/ maybe some kind of steampunk or Magitech chainsaw.
3. Mosswater Marauder/ Jason-Michael style killer
4. Father Charlatan/ Evil Doctor crossed with Hell raiser kind of thing.
5. Piper/ not sure. Probably closest to original concept.
I thinking of a slasher template that allows for corporeal ghosts that can manifest and de-manifest (?) when and where nobody can see them. This explains how Jason and the like can suddenly be gone only to appear behind the victim.
Anyway, this is meant as a one shot over Halloween weekend.
So thoughts, ideas, comments, criticism, suggestions?
