Charger Feat and Shoving

I have an interesting question:

The PHB says that a person with the Charger feat may, after a charge, either add +5 to damage rolls or shove a target 10 feet if they choose to shove the target. The feat does not say that I have to choose to shove the target 5 feet to gain this benefit. As such, would it be reasonable to say that I could shove a target prone and push them 10 feet?

It does say up to 10 feet, but you're choosing to shove them down which is zero feet. I think you're meant to only shove them 10ft if you chose to shove them away from you, but the charger feat could use some help so I don't see why not.
