The Astral Stalker (http://www.realmshelps.net/monsters/block/Astral_Stalker) has a poison throat dart attack. Interestingly enough it is native to the Astral Plane (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/gamemastering/environment/the-planes#TOC-Astral-Plane1). BTW: This isn't the only creature native to the Astral plane with a poison attack.

The Astral Plane is "timeless" and as such poisons don't function in the Astral Plane, though they resume functioning when the traveler leaves the Astral Plane.

So does the Astral Stalker's poison throat dart deal poison damage on the Astral Plane? It seems by RAW (3.5 & Pathfinder) the answer is no. I do find it odd that there are creatures native the the Astral Plane with poison attacks, they they can only use on other planes.

My GM is going to house rule that poisons in the stat blocks of by creatures native to the Astral Plane work as normal, despite the timeless property of the Astral Plane. This seems reasonable (although I don't like it). Are there any official sources that discuss this topic?

Meta explanation: no WotC developer has ever paid attention to the small details, ever. Besides, it's not like 'poison fails to work on the astral' is a very well-known rule.

In-game explanation: astral stalkers frequently travel to other planes, and poison would be useful on those.

Well travelers through the astral are pretty common. If you want to scare them twenty or thirty poison saves when they exit is pretty good.

Yeah, presumably the poison catches up with you when you leave? Makes perfect sense then - in the Astral, you're on their home turf. If you manage to escape them, it's already too late, and they can collect your cooling corpse at their leisure.
