CLASS FEATURES
All of the following are class features of the ardent.
-Weapon and Armor Proficiency: An ardent is proficient with all simple weapons, light armor, medium armor, and shields (except tower shields).
-Spells: An ardent casts psychic spells drawn from the mantles he possesses (see mantles), henceforth referred to as ardent spells.
-He can cast any spell he knows without preparing it ahead of time. To learn or cast a spell, an ardent must have a Wisdom score equal to at least 10 + the spell level. The Difficulty Class for a saving throw against an ardent's spell equals 10 + the spell level + the ardent's Wisdom modifier.
-An ardent can cast only a certain number of spells of each spell level per day. His base daily spell allotment is given on Table: Ardent. In addition, he gains bonus spells per day if he has a high Wisdom score.
The ardent's selection of spells is limited, knowing only the spells provided by their mantles and 1 psychic knack more than the number of mantles they possess. When the ardent learns to cast a new level of spells, he immediately adds one spell of that level to his list of spells known from each mantle he knows.
-An ardent need not prepare his spells in advance. He can cast any spell he knows at any time, assuming he has not yet used up his allotment of spells per day for the spell's level.
-Mantles: Tantamount to a cleric's domains, in fact utilizing the same list for abilities and spells granted, an ardent's mantles are representative of the philosophies the ardent embraces, the first two being their most strongly held. At 1st level an ardent selects 2 domains, henceforth referred to as mantles, and gains 1 additional one at 2nd and every 4 levels thereafter. An ardent may choose the same mantle more than once, but cannot gain the same ability more than once. For the purpose of determining the effectiveness of abilities granted by the ardent's mantles, treat the ardent's level as their effective cleric level. For the purpose of acquiring abilities from an ardent's domains, calculate from the level the mantle was gained rather than from 1st level. For instance, if an ardent selects a mantle at 2nd level that grants an ability at 8th level, an ardent gains that ability at 9th level instead. If the same mantle were instead chosen at 6th level, that ability would be gained at 13th level.
Whenever an ardent gains a new mantle, an ardent may swap the effective level gained of two mantles they previously possessed. As an ardent gains experience, his worldview may change, finding themselves more devoted to different concepts later in their careers. This change can cause an ardent to gain and lose access to abilities granted by their mantles.
Unlike clerics and their domains, an ardent is capable of taking on mantles of alignments that they not only possess but oppose their own. However, using an ability granted by a mantle of an alignment is treated similarly as casting spells of said alignment and may cause the ardent's alignment to shift given time and usage.
-Mantle Focus (Su): Diverse as the paths an ardent walks, they have but a finite amount of energy to impart among them. An ardent gains a number of points equal to his Ardent level + either his Charisma modifier or his Intelligence modifier, and these points refresh at the start of each day. This choice is made at 1st level and afterwards cannot be changed. If the ardent selects Charisma, then all ardent spells possess Emotion components. If the ardent selects Intelligence, then all ardent spells possess Thought components. The component added by this choice cannot be removed by any means. He can divide his mantle focus between his mantles in any way he desires. Once a point is allocated to a mantle, it can be spent freely within said mantle. Mantle focus can be allocated in the following ways;
--Daily Uses (3+Wisdom/day): For 1 point of mantle focus, an ardent uses an ability that normally has a number of daily uses equal to 3+Wisdom modifier/day.
--Daily Uses: For 2 points of mantle focus, an ardent may use an ability that ordinarily is usable only 1/day that increases gradually with level. Each successive use of this ability costs 1 additional point of mantle focus.
--Round Usage: For 1 point of mantle focus, an ardent may use an ability that has a finite number of rounds it can be used and may use that ability for 1 round per ardent level they possess. While the effects do not need to be continuously in place, or even be on the same target, the total duration is consumed whether the ability is in effect or not. Once this duration is up, an ardent must spend another point of mantle focus if they wish to use that ability again.
-Mantle Mastery: Upon reaching 20th level, an ardent gains the abilities granted by all their mantles regardless of the level they first selected the mantle.
