Buckler and BOW question

Hi guys i need some help with a little problem

When using a buckler in 3.5 Srd it clearly states that when using a BUCKLER you get no penalties when using the bow or crossbow.

But one of my teammates think i should get no AC bonus.

So what is it, Do i get no penalties like the rules for the buckler say or do i get no protection from it when using a bow?

No shield bonus if you use a bow.

I think you need the Improved Buckler Defense feat.
