I was thinking about the following build:

race: silverbrow human

class: bard 1 / fighter 2 / ??? 3 / master thrower 5

feats: dragonfire inspiration, point blank shot, rapid shot, precise shot, song of the heart, weapon focus (dart), dead eye or knowledge devotion

items: composite longbow, badge of valor

level 1: longbow with +1d6 damage, lots of skill points
level 2: rapid shot for 2 attacks
level 3: longbow with +3d6 damage
....
level 7: when enemies get close, drop your longbow and use "palm throw" to throw 6 darts with +3d6 damage each
level 11: make ranged touch attacks with darts

The question is, what's a good class with 3/3 BAB to take after Fighter? Also, any general comments on optimization of this?

Can you please be clear on source for the extra dice of damage?

Also, what do you want to get out of the 3 levels besides full bab?

1) Dragonfire Inspiration, replaces Inspire Courage bonus.

2) any nice class features or useful bonus feats

OK, so your doing extra dice of energy damage based off of your draconic heritage.

Your trying to keep to ranged combat so most melee classes don't do too much for you. That said if you take 2 levels of ranger before you go fighter you can pick up Rapid shot for free off of ranger. This build could also use Barbarian for the speed boost.

Alternative would be one level in barbarian for speed (and rage as a get out of jail free card if you do take a bunch of damage) and 2 levels in Duskblade for solid will save + true strike could be a world of fun.

Even one level in each would do wonders for your saves and give you a lot of additional versatility.

Hmm, I'm currently thinking that either [Warblade 1 / Paladin 2] or [Hexblade 3] would be good.

Warblade gives maneuvers and a d12 HD.
Paladin gives Cha to saves.
Hexblade gives Cha to spell saves, and Mettle.

Which do you think is better?

Doesn't War Chanter give full BAB and advance some Bard abilities?

Doesn't War Chanter give full BAB and advance some Bard abilities?

That requires some feats.

I'm thinking that Hexblade is the way to go. That gives you:

Bart the Dart Bard

class: bard 1 / fighter 2 / hexblade 3 / master thrower 5

level 1: +1d6 damage, lots of skill points
2: longbow proficiency, rapid shot for 2 attacks
3: +3d6 damage
5: Charisma to saves vs spells
6: partial Will or Fortitude saves become full saves
7: when enemies get close, throw 6 darts with +3d6 damage each
8: half damage Reflex saves become full saves
9: trip with a dart attack
10: snatch arrows
11: make ranged touch attacks with darts

Might work better as a party rather than just one character.

Bard (provides the dice)
Ranger with Archery fighting style and Spell Compendium archery spells
Monk with Flurry of Shuriken
Rogue / Fighter / Master Thrower
