Absalom Beguiled

http://i.imgur.com/RTftWSX.jpg

The powerful lords and factions of Absalom are all aware of the complex, interconnected nature of control within the city. Even though no nation is currently besieging Absalom, trade is good, money flows through the city’s coffers, and Lord Gyr holds enough power to guarantee no one openly opposes him, it should never be thought that Absalom is at peace, or even safe. There is an ever-raging conflict between the factions that wish to hold the influence to rule Absalom from behind the scenes. To control Absalom is to control the Inner Sea, and no nation on Golarion or organization within it is ignorant of that fact. Lord Gyr may rule, but his decisions are based on what he believes is necessary to protect the people and wealth of Absalom. If a faction can gain enough agents, spies, saboteurs, allies, and gold to shape what Lord Gyr believes is needful, then it, at least for a time, controls Absalom.

Oberon: A gentle Fall wind blows through the Grand Bazaar as Oberon is approached by merchant barkers, one after another. The hundreds of stalls, canopies, pavilions, and stages are aligned in the best example of organized chaos in Absalom. Anything one could want, or almost, can be found here. It is late afternoon, a few hours from sunset and Oberon comes face-to-face with a familiar face. Dressed in white with a heavy fur pelt resting on his shoulder, the man recognizes Oberon from within the crowd. He speaks with an exuberance that is harmful to the ears; O B E R O N! how long has it been? The man is Tyson Morillo.

Maria: Business is slow for the Lions Pride on this Fall afternoon, which is not unusual for this time of day. Patrons are sure to flood in when the markets slow down and thirst grows among the populace. Some come for the revels and others come to forget the problems that plague them when the sun is up. Maria does have one patron, Scab — a half orc, stone mason who's been injured for more than a month. Scab will likely spend his last penny on honey mead, sitting at the same corner table. It would take an earthquake to wake the half orc as he currently slumbers. The tiny brass bell rings as the door opens to the tavern. A female half elf walks in and takes a seat at the bar. Her hair is raven-black and she wears light, leather armor with a rapier on her waist.

Father Roark: Leaves of red, brown, and yellow fall around Father Roark as he sits on the white stone steps leading into his church. A few residents are on the streets enjoying their afternoon. Most if any, do not acknowledge the priest of Sarenrae, instead moving forward pondering their own concerns. Absalom is not a city of pleasantries and polite exchange — nothing out of the ordinary. Father Roark notices a young, Varisian woman walking alone. She is wearing casual robes with no distinction and she does not appear to be armed. Once the woman is parallel with the steps of the church, Father Roark notices that she is clearing being followed by a couple of unkempt ruffians wearing the same black cloaks. One holds a dagger in his right hand.

Dyrianna: Why, thank you. a patron at the Tea House remarks as Dyrianna delivers her order. The lady is charming, elderly and likely a wealthy widow. She has been kind to Dyrianna during her serving with the two mostly discussing the nicer weather Absalom has experienced this week. Walking outside to the elevated patio of the Tea House, there is a new patron at one of Dyrianna's tables. Most of those that visit this sparse cafe would be considered regular customers. Even those that are not clearly look as though they belong in Green Ridge. This man is older, with long grey hair pulled into a ponytail. He has numerous tattoos and his clothes are well worn, tattered, and dirty. His face is wrinkled, stern, and bitter.

Rufus: Sitting inside The Doxy Pub & Grub, Rufus has a view of some of the most vile citizens in all of Absalom. The Doxy is only second to The Grog Pit as the most infamous watering hole in the Docks. Sailors and dockmen flow in and out for the tavern's home-brewed spiced ale and perhaps one of Absalom's best dishes, Doxy's Fish & Chips. In fact, most will dare eat anything else served from this establishment since you never know who's working the kitchen on a given day. Two men approach the table where Rufus is seated. Both are similarly dressed in black leather with short swords, one with a pistol. One has a black beard with a prominent scar across his face. The other is a young man wearing a wide brimmed hat. Are you Rufus?, the young man asks, Sliver sent us.

Alice: Waiting for her next appointment, Alice stares out of her window to the Sourwood tree that dominates her view. The tree shines with hues of crimson and deep yellow as its wispy foliage dances in the wind. This day has seemed to drag on. Alice's first appointment was a no-show. A woman Alice had spoken to a week or so ago who's husband had vanished in Green Ridge was supposed to return for a follow up visit. Hopefully, she too had not disappeared. Time would tell. As Alice was about to call it a day and enjoy what remained of her afternoon, three knocks rapped on her door. Walking in her office was not her appointed guest but a tall, handsome youth in fine clothing. Hello, pardon any intrusion, my name is Leonel. My brother made this appointment under his name, Agudo.

Berengir Lok: The back streets of the Coins, just blocks from the Lion's Pride, isn't somewhere that any resident in Absalom would typically find themselves, morning or night. With a face like Berengir's and being a half orc, the wizard is not out of place. Orphans run these streets and many have formed gangs that rival the worst in Absalom. A cling, then a clang stops Berengir in his tracks as a few coins drop from his pockets. Perhaps its simply a hole that needs mending, but this brings some unwanted attention. Three youth ease from a nearby alley in front of Berengir. These young lads are armed with club, short spear, and hand axe. Their appearance is that of filth and poverty, typical for this area. The tallest kid steps up; You there, ya big ugly. Yeh, you. We'll be taking all ya silver weight and pennies.

Dr. Archibald Bishop: Archibald wakes as the scroungy-looking goblin, Foo rolls his boot back and forth on the Doctor's shoulder. Git up cha kraze wank! Yer inda skreet! As Archibald's eyes clear from the grey blur he realizes that Foo is correct. His pants are wet from having urinated in them. His socks and boots are wet from resting in the lowest part of the street. The taste in his mouth is foul and salty. There is a small wound on the back of his left hand from some type of sharp object. Not a single coin remains in his possession — thankfully he travels light. Then there's the dirt and fall leaves resting all upon him. Git up!, Foo exclaims again. In this moment, a member of the First Guard appears, strong and confident; What's happening here? Who are you and why are you in back of the Perfumer’s?

Rufus (http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheet.html#id=999108)

Rufus looks up as the two men approach the table. His head was still throbbing from the night before and the rats piss ale in front of him was barely touched, so tender was his stomach. His hands however were as steady as they normally were despite the rumpled clothes, unshaven face and bleary eyes. His eyes dart around the Doxy looking for any more trouble as he considers his answer. He had been an associate of Sliver - there were no real friends in the street gangs - before he had gone sailing and had looked up his old colleague since he'd returned to the cess pit of a city. Looking up at the men he pushes out a chair for the bearded one. "I might be, depends. What does he want with me?"

Father Roark

Roark grits his teeth as he spots the cloaked figures, and begins formulating his plan. He has watched enough thugs stalk the innocent to know what they were doing, and knew what would happen were he not to intervene. If he were to stop their pursuit, with any luck he would never see either them or the woman again, and no more would come of it. But he knows that things are rarely so simple in Absalom. And to put a stop to them, he has to look the part.

Ensuring the figures aren't looking at him, he brushes his hair frantically with his bare hands, causing his neat grey hair to turn wild and dishevelled. In an instant he steps into the path of the two ruffians, arms outstretched in overeager greeting, a battered copy of The Birth of Light and Truth in one hand. “GENTLEMEN! The Dawnflower blesses us all with this fine day!” He projects his voice with the force of a fire-and-brimstone preacher, hoping not only to startle them and stall their progress, but also alert the woman to his - and their - presence. “The doors to her church are always open to friends and strangers alike!”

Berengir Lok

Berengir trudged into the alley, thinking about her again. That face, her smell, the smile that could take him away for a day. Damn he missed her. Instead, he got a dark alley, the smell of rotted garbage, and a rainy drizzle. Just as it should be, he thought, when he heard it, the cling, and then the clang, the coin rolling slowly into the muck, that old deja vu, just as he had been dreamin', for the last three nights. That was the problem with being a diviner, you knew the suck was comin', and you knew you couldn't do much about it. Still, Berengir smiled as he looked up at the three expected faces. He gave them his best toothy grin, fangs and tusks and all. Halfways, he hoped they'd beat the snot out of him, maybe then he could stop thinking about her. Maybe it would feel good to lay in the trash and rain and bleed a while, not thinking about nothing but the new pain. Maybe not.
Berengir took out one of his smokes, hand rolled in scrollpaper, and lit it, with his thumb

Alice, 18 Neth, 4716

Waiting for her next appointment, Alice stares out of her window to the Sourwood tree that dominates her view.

If the fact that the man (?) at the door is not her appointed guest irritates her, she doesn't show that. If her client required that degree of secrecy, so be it. She quickly closes the door behind the man, pointing at a large wooden wardrobe next to it. "I am Alice, it is nice to meet you, Sir. Please, take a seat over there." She points through a door to a group of two chairs that stand in front of a big desk in the presumably biggest room of the house. Behind the desk is another chair with its back to the wall, presumably the one she usually takes a seat in. "May I offer you something to drink? Water? Applejack?" The furniture in this room is mostly spartan; a few closed sideboards here and there with oil lamps on them. The desk features only a small stack of parchments, a vial of ink and a pen, a simple oil lamp, and a jar with fortune cookies. There are few windows in the wall, with very simple drapes. All in all, it becomes apparent that Alice tries to keep the living-room-turned-office to look professional and welcoming, and should she be rich (what she isn't), she's well at hiding it. Her clothes tell a similar story: Unostentatious, dark, not made for fancy places but not the clothes of a beggar -- they fit her well but are also not overly revealing. Besides the entry from the hall, the office has a closed door leading to some other room. From the hall, there was another closed door, presumably leading to the kitchen - a fact that will be verified should he answer the offer for a drink with yes.

Dyrianna

Behind the mask, Dyrianna smiles at the older woman, placing both hands within her sleeves and bowing deeply. "You are welcome, Lady" she replies, the last word spoken in Tien. Leaving her to tea and tranquility, the woman glides towards the older man, her robes barely brushing against the floor as she navigates between the tables. She bows deeply as she arrives at the man's side. "Honored Guest, I shall be your server upon this day." she intones in Tien before switching to Taldane. "Good day, Sir. What may I get you? I can recommend the red lemon today, as our Tea Brewer has just got in a fresh box of the fruit."

Oberon

Oberon had always enjoyed autumn, and the gentle breeze whispered a promising day. Tuning out the merchant barkers, disregarding the stench of the market, and seeing only the beauty of the place (and potential danger) felt as natural as breathing. Yet, Oberon's mind never lapsed into daydream, and the moment his name was called, his impassive face turned towards the voice.

A genuine smile spread across his face as the sight matched the sound, and Tyson Morillo appeared. "As I live and breathe. Dear Tyson Morillo, how fares you? It has been too long." Oberon spreads out his arms for an embrace.

Rufus: The bearded man sits down as Rufus pushes the chair out for him. I'm Cole. He points to the younger man still standing; that's Pike. Cole pulls a piece of parchment from his coat pocket and pushes it across the table to you. Sliver has a job for you if you're interested; says he's glad you're back. See ya 'round. Cole stands to leave with Pike. (on the parchment is an address in The Puddles; 29 Canal St.)

Father Roark: As Roark intersects the two ruffians, the one closest to him extends his arms and faces the priest. Slow down there father. You know what you can do with your Dawnflower! (attempt by the thug to Intimidate Roark, [roll0] ). The second thug continues after the girl, moving slightly faster than his previous pace.

Berengir: As Berengir speaks to the young thugs, "You boys best scram, it's a school night." They are unmoving, now blocking his passage forward. Berengir is familiar with the orphans in this area and knows their gang to be The Penny Boys, a rather vicious group led by an orphan half-elf named Rabbit. A few more steps in their direction and melee is certain to ensue. So, big ugly, what's it gonna be?

Alice: The handsome young man, Leonel, respectfully declines Alice's offer for a beverage; No thank you, but please, sorry for any confusion. I asked my brother to help with this connection for reasons of discretion. Leonel seems confident, yet upset in demeanor. You see, my girlfriend, Bella, has been missing for four days. This is very out of character for her. I was wondering if you might look into this, find her for me, you know, as a professional.

Dyrianna: Peering back at Dyrianna, the man's face and emotion is unchanging, stern as he answers; Whatever you recommend. When Dyrianna returns with the tea, the man accepts the cup and looks up at the masked server. You are known to me child, your true nature, your thoughts and will. What is it you want from this life? Can you answer this?

Oberon: Tyson dismisses his entourage for the moment. After a few moments of small talk; You know, everything that happened with you, it was a raw deal. I know you were innocent. So, what's prison like? What have you been doing all this time? What brings you back?

Rufus (http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheet.html#id=999108)

Rufus looks at the bit of paper casually and drinks heavily once more. As Pike and Cole stand up to leave he tips his hat slightly towards them. Hmm, he thinks, musing Me and Sliver were never that close. Better be a job and not some real bad news coming way." Drinking up he flicks a copper to one of the wenches, pulls his hat down low and drags the short cape around to cover the butt of the pistol before walking out into the stench and evening light of docks.

He looks towards the puddles, pausing before nodding in a determined manner and walking towards Canal Street. Every now and then he stops in front of stalls or market vendors, eyes alert should anyone be following him. At several points he pauses and darts down alleys between connecting streets. Slowly winding towards Canal street he watches the street carefully and the house carefully for a few minutes before striding up to the door, sounding more confident than he felt, his hand resting on the pistol at his hip and hoping to the various Gods that would listen that he wasn't walking into a trap....

"Pike and Cole said there was work.... I'm interested."

Shaken, Roark lets the act drop. His arms drop to his side and his face falls to a blank mask as he tries to compose himself, his voice dropping to a stern murmur. In spite of his fear, he still has to do something. “Very well. But know she’s watching you all the same.” With that, he breaks away from the thug in front of him and begins to set off after the ruffian as he pursues the woman. As he does so he brushes his coat aside briefly, revealing the ceremonial scimitar hanging from his belt.

I'm assuming Roark is shaken at the moment.

The young toughs looked unimpressed by Berengir's warning, and could he blame them? It sounded pretty corny to his ears too. You need to come up with better material, Ber, you can't even scare the kiddies nowadays. These little bastards probably ran with the Penny Boys, street urchins led by a half-leafeater named Rabbit.

"So, big ugly, what's it gonna be?", the leader demanded.

What's it going to be?, Berengir shot back, Kid, let's run through your options. I could blast you into goo or turn you into a syphilitic two-headed toad, but if you keep on pissing me off, I'm of half a mind to let you rob me...Of course, then I would have to let word get back to Rabbit that you took something from me, something good that he'd want that you wouldn't be able to cough up, good enough that the Rabbit might pinch a couple of Pennies flat for holding out on him. So, your options are I beat your ass, and then Rabbit beats your ass for being a weak syphilitic two-headed toad. You beat my ass, and then Rabbit beats your ass for being a bent Penny for holding out on him. Of course, you three might think you are in the running for bad ass of the year, and you MIGHT be thinking you can kill me....course I've the Wizard's Curse, you kill me, and you all die. Or...you can just turn around and walk away as you came, I'll let you, THIS time, cause I like you, I think you are a good penny, you got some brass to you, kid. Ain't nothing to it, and none the wiser, you tangled with a dark and dangerous wiz and lived to tell the tale, otherwise, all your options are bad kid, real bad. Take my two cents and turn around and keep walkin.

While Berengir is saying all of this, he slowly adopts Defensive Stance #1 as taught by the College of Mysteries and his hands loosen, ready to let fly Eldritch might.

Rufus: Rufus was careful, confident that he wasn't followed. One has to have a good reason to visit The Puddles, transitioning into this area below sea level, Rufus now strolls and darts through calf-deep water. It's slow, wet, and loaded with trash. Canal St. is no different. The street slopes downward, terminating into the Inner Sea. Reaching the appointed address, Rufus finds a townhouse that looks to have been abandoned many years ago. On a pitch of several degrees, Rufus ascends the stairs to knock on the door. He is soon greeted by what can only be described as a deformed, perhaps mutated half-elf with three arms, one eye that is twice the size of normal with the other side of his face melted and a right leg that is twice the size of his left. Rufus is startled but resolved, "Pike and Cole said there was work.... I'm interested." The half-elf only grunts and motions for Rufus to enter. Moving into a room lit by torches with a single chair, Rufus notices a familiar face sitting in the chair, the former head of the Black Sahguain, a middle-aged human named Leviathan. Standing beside Leviathan is a blue grippli dressed in black robes. It's... good to see you again Rufus. Whatever brought you back, you owe me. Are you ready to pay up?

Roark: Using his knowledge of the area, Roark is aware that the woman is heading toward the Grand Bazaar. Roark successfully pushes past the ruffian to pursue the other and the woman. This is now a four-person pursuit and the young woman is aware of the threat and is running for his life. Roark is aware that the ruffian behind him is armed. As the chase continues through sparse areas of people, Roark can see the crowds of the Grand Bazaar in the distance. (attempt to stay on pace through crowds, Acrobatics [roll0]) The crowds do not slow Roark, and he is soon within a few paces of the first ruffian.

Speaking to his friend now, "looks like you're about to see what I've been up to all this time." Oberon lets his body relax, brimming with energy. Keeping a loose grip on his staff, he stands light on his feet, ready to explode into action. "You take the lady, stop her, and help her. I'll handle the pursuer."

I was hoping to get a chance to go to the docks, and would offer to look into the deliveries then" she asks, racking her brain to see if she's heard of the Stygian

Father Roark:

Roark forces his way through the bazaar’s crowds, alternating between apologising profusely and cursing under his breath. Things had escalated a tad more than he would have liked. Hopefully the woman wouldn’t mistake her for one of her pursuers. He gave some thought to calling out to her to explain himself, but realised that nothing looks less trustworthy than a man chasing you claiming that he isn't chasing you. As he gets closer and closer to the first ruffian, he begins to formulate a plan in his head. “Ok, when she gets some distance away from them, I can cast Obscuring Mist to hide her escape, that should buy her some time. Once I do that, I can try one last chance to reason with these two gentlemen, failing that I shall have to put them to the swo-“

The thought is instantly cut off the second he sees a well-muscled stranger slam a fist into the first pursuer’s face. “Oh. Never mind.” He takes a step back, points back into the crowd from where he came from. “There was another one giving chase to her. He's wearing the same sort of cloak. Best be on your guard.” He places a hand on the sword on his belt, ready to draw it should the two thugs turn their weapons on anyone.

Oberon: The Varisian woman runs into the arms of Tyson as Oberon delivers a vicious stunning fist to the ruffian in pursuit. The thugs face ripples from the blow as his feet leave the ground, falling with a thud on the ground below. The ruffian is now prone. A second pursuer slows, a grey-haired priest who appeared to be chasing the thug; takes a step back, points into the crowd from where he came: “There was another one giving chase to her. He's wearing the same sort of cloak. Best be on your guard.” He places a hand on the sword on his belt, ready to draw it should the two thugs turn their weapons on anyone.

Alice: Leonel answers Alice's questions as best he can. Raking his hand through his thick hair; I know this must seem crazy (Alice now pinpoints his accent as Varisian), but it's not like her. Bella, is her name. She came with me to Absalom only a year ago. ... Yes, four days. I last saw her at breakfast that morning. She was going to meet a friend from our homeland. She did not come home. ... You must understand, Bella is the love of my life. She's not as familiar with the city as most. ... Wearing? I don't know, maybe an ochre-colored dress, tunic style, maybe sea-colored. I don't remember.

Berengir: With his incantation and the motion of his hand, Berengir casts sleep on the Penny Boys; all 3 falling to slumber. It is in this moment that a chunk of stone strikes Berengir in the head, falling from the building above; Damage [roll0] A gash now cut into the half-orc's head, he notices two Penny Boys on the roof and two more advancing from further down the street.

Dyrianna: The mistress replies that a new shipment will arrive in two days. Dyrianna has no recall on a group known as the Stygian. The man lingers at the Tea House for an hour, then rises and leaves. The tip he leaves is quite impresses for a cup of tea, 5 silver weights. A flower is also left for you, a dark reddish-brown flower with 5 petals that smells similar to coffee.

Father Roark: Running into the Bazaar, the young woman runs into the arms of a tall nobleman in white with a fur draped over his shoulders. As the ruffian approaches, an adjacent man punches the thug hard enough to knock him off of his feet. As you turn to look back for your pursuer, the second thug, he stops at the edge of the stalls, quickly surveys the scene and flees into the crowd, running away from your position.

Oberon holds his pose for a couple heartbeats longer than was necessary. One never knows who might be a spectator. Best to give them a proper show. He hears the priest chasing the downed thug mention another pursuer, but when Oberon looks up, the man, or woman, was already heading off. No point in chasing after that one, this one's already stunned and looks about near death. Looking back down at the prone and stunned thug, Oberon snorts with contempt as he lifts his staff and smacks it down on the man's head to knock him out cold.

"Let's tie him up," Oberon says to the priest as he unloads his pack to take out his rope.

Oberon, Tyson mentions, listen ole' boy, here's my card. Look me up later. Tyson and his entourage leave the Bazaar as a crowd begins to gather near the scene.

Father Roark: The young woman begins to calm down but is visibly upset by the ordeal. They were chasing me; chasing me! She folds her arms and bites at her fingernails. Who are you? Where is my friend? Where is she?!

Oberon received Tyson's card graciously, fully aware when he's being dismissed, or perhaps his old friend simply didn't want any part of whatever trouble that seemed to follow Oberon. He sighs as he looks at Tyson's departure, before double-checking to make sure the captive was completely restrained with his wrists tied behind his back. Satisfied, Oberon drags the man closer towards the priest consoling the running woman. He plops down the captive, letting the man's face hit the ground, and set a foot on his wrists and his staff at a tender spot on the man's back, ready to strike in case the man wakes up and tries to be smart.

"Who are you? Where is my friend? Where is she?!" The woman was saying aloud.

"Peace, my lady. Peace. Take a deep breath and let your mind clear so that we can better understand you." Oberon speaks in a calm tone, his voice measured and soft, to better force the woman to focus and listen to him. "I am Oberon, a simple man," he spreads his arms out, palms up, "A woman being chased by men never ends well if the woman is caught, so I intervened. As to this priest, I do not know him, but he seemed intent to save you." Oberon gives the priest a nod of acknowledgment. "Now, who is this friend of yours that's missing? Staggering after the stone struck Berengir on the head, the half-orc runs back down the alley and into the arms of a corner strumpet. Panicked, the young wizard nearly ices the trollop when the past and the future hit the half-orc in a double whammy.

Orange Oil. Berengir's nose pushed right past the streetwalker's stink and went straight to the orange oil. Shelby started wearing orange oil after he brought her that first gift of oranges and chocolate. The smell always took him back, Berengir hadn't had a damn orange in three years. He thought of her, and his heart broke all over again.

Hello love. I'm going to die here. Soon I will see you again.

He wanted to give up. He felt like his brain, heart, lungs, and liver were having a heated argument about who wanted to give up on him first. It would be okay, to give in, to lay down in the dirt and let a bunch of kids pound his skull into the pavers with rocks over 5 lousy gold pieces. It would be okay, okay, Shelby would be there, they would be together...

Save the girl. Save the girl in the ochre dress. The dream. The damn dream again. Ah for god'ssakes, let me die, give me peace. Is it even THIS girl? This dress? Not REALLY ochre...She's just as likely to rob me and kill me as the Pennies...I DEFINATELY have a concussion.

Berengir stared at her dumbly as she prattled away. He ran through the options. He pricked up his ears and scanned the rooftops for the Pennies, he doubt he gave them the slip, but they were like roaches, they shunned the light.

Oh deary, you're a large one and you're bleeding all over creation. She takes Berengir by the arm. Tell me where ya headed and I'll walk with ya. Point us in the right direction, lad.

Berengir gives her a mad grin that must have looked absolutely horrific with the blood all over he face. Blue eyes and short hair, just like Shelby. Where are we going love? Point me in the right direction. Walk with me.

Lok shoves the icer in his pocket, collects himself, and grabs the girls hand.

(she speaks softly) I need the current members, names and whereabouts. What's that set me back, coin-wise? The bell rings again at the entrance. It's Berengir being helped by a local woman. He's badly hurt.

Oberon: Tyson gave Oberon second look and a wink as he disappeared in the crowd. Tyson was not one for drama, at least not the kind he didn't create on his own. Oberon was able to somewhat calm the woman yet she still seemed frantic, I have to go, I have to go. It's not safe here. Understand? They have her and I'm next. Let me go! As an assessment of the woman's status, it's simply too hard to tell. She's not a lower class citizen, but the woman has a slightly torn dress and looks a bit disheveled. She does speak with an accent which you place as Varisian.

Father Roark: As Roark interacts with Oberon and the woman, she seems to calm even further. The reasons are unknown to either of you, but the woman does agree to return to the church if both Roark and Oberon will accompany her; I will go to the church, just get me out of here. I must go! Looking around, Roark is aware that a decent crowd has formed to get a closer look. This happening has drawn the attention of the Starwatch (Absalom's law enforcement), as two of their members are seen at some distance.

Berengir Lok: Walking with the woman toward the Lion's Pride, Berengir saw no signs of the Penny Boys in pursuit. Perhaps they were content to stay in the back alleys and not surface to such a main thoroughfare. Whatever the case, it did not matter now. Berengir didn't recognize the harlot; maybe she was new or in rotation, yet again, not the half-orc's top priority. It took some time to reach the bar. It wasn't surprising that no one along the way offered to help such a petite woman aide a bleeding half-orc twice her size. Entering the Pride, Berengir recognized the ring of the tiny brass bell that sounded as the door swept past it. The strumpet immediately called for help, but you were halfway into the building before Maria knew what was happening. At least, this was a safe haven, and one with ale.

Rufus: Holding his ground, the deformed Hap, steps back for a moment. Leviathan stands, pulling the lapels downward on his long, charcoal grey coat. You've got balls, Rufus, at least one. You have two days to figure this out. This is too public for me and too high profile for some of my other guys. So, listen ... you come up with the plan and I pay you to execute it. If the Watch pins you, well, you go down. There are no surprises if its your plan. The ship is called The Purloin. Leviathan reaches in his coat and tosses Rufus a bag of coin. That's 200 to start. Just give me a few seconds, try to give me some cover from prying eyes if you can," Oberon lets his action explain itself as he begins a thorough search of his captive, trying to discern any information he can get from the man's clothing, and anything he has on his person. He'll look as thorough as possible within the short time frame that he has before the inevitable eyes of the Starwatch descends upon them.

In an instant he makes up his mind. “Very well, but hurry. The second they think about heading this way, I am gone. You might think about doing the same.” Acting fast, he takes his chance to step between the guard’s line of sight and Oberon, doing his best to form a visual barrier between them. Oberon: Nodding at the woman and working with Roark, asking for a few minutes free from the eyes of the crowd, Oberon searches to the ruffian's clothing in an attempt to find any information about him. Oberon finds a nice-looking dagger on the thug's hip. Oberon then notices that the thug is beginning to lurch and squirm. Oberon's instinct is that the man is trying to free himself ... that's when Oberon notices the sea foam-like substance coming from the thug's mouth as the seizure continues. This occurrence draws even more attention from the gather crowd within the Grand Bazaar.

Father Roark: During this exchange with Oberon, the woman continues to react nervously. One of the merchant's barkers walks up to Roark and the woman; Is all well here? ... Lady, are you okay, do you need help? The woman raises her palms to the side of her face; like blinders on a steed; I must go! Go! She starts to pull away from Roark, heading back the way she came. Then, Roark catches a glimpse of the ruffian trying to escape, but no, he's having some sort of seizure. The Starwatch is moving in, and fast.

Maria: Negotiating for information with the half-elf concerning members of the Black Sahguain turns toward the bottom line; 200 isn't a problem, upfront, but I'll need assurance of how many members you're aware of and an all-in price, no surprises... at this moment Maria notices Berengir limping in, but continues with the half elf. Her attention is then turned to the fact that Berengir is actually hurt and rushes to his aid. Maria's knowledge of healing falters a bit yet she recognizes the local strumpet as Molly, a new freelancer in the neighborhood with few affiliations. During this interaction, the half-elf woman stealthily leaves the tavern.

Berengir Lok: Landing upon the bar, the strumpet continues to aid Berengir as Maria takes notice of his injuries. A half-elf patron is sitting at the bar but promptly leaves while the half-orc is in triage. Berengir doesn't recognize her. Sending his familiar out as an eye-in-the-sky, everyone realizes it'll take more than alcohol and bandages to heal this wound. "Fear not, priest," Oberon says as he searches the body. "I know too well the barbed lash of the law. I have no desire to overstay my welcome here."

The search took longer than the few seconds Oberon expected, and he knew the eyes of the crowd were gathering around them, circling them in. But the search may not have been fruitless, yielding a nice looking dagger that may hold some clue. It was all he could get before foam began dribbling from the thug's mouth. Oberon knew his cue when it was staring him in the face.

"I must go! Go!" The frightened lass was pleading and demanding.

No time to examine the dagger now. "Let us make haste, but not too obvious, or the stalking guards will recognize us for the prey we are." Oberon taps the frightened woman's elbow, and motions for the priest to lead the way. "I'll stay off to the side, ready to defend you or create a diversion if needed. Priest, if you're the type that can harness the power of your god, we may need your divine intervention to shield our escape."

Oberon gives them both a warm smile. "Be casual but be vigilant, a man distracted is a man defeated. Our fate may be in the hands of you and your god, priest. I pray you are no false prophet. Now, let us fly."

But I can assure you that I will do everything in my power to find her." Assuming he doesn't simply leave, she adds: "I still have more questions, and while they may be painful to answer, and you may have the impression of sitting around instead of searching her, it is imperative that you answer them thoroughly." She will then start to ask him further question, never more than one at a time, taking notes here and there about the interview.

Tell me more about Anna, please. What is her relationship to Bella? Where do they know each other from? How old is she? And how old is Bella? Can you describe Anna? (Should he ask why this is important, she will argue that someone might have seen Anna, while she was somewhere with Bella).
Did Anna stay with you? If not, do you know where she did stay, and if she knew any other people in Absalom? Maybe someone else from the church of Sarenrae?
Is Bella working or stay-at-home? If she's working, what is her job and who is her employer? What about you? (If he asks why this may be relevant, she argues that it's important to get a big picture.)
Why did you leave your home? Why did you chose Absalom as your new home? Did you both want to come here equally?

I hope it's alright I put the questions in a list, trying to speed up the interview a bit.

Father Roark

Roark catches only a split second of the thug’s seizure before he looks away – he’d rather not keep that image on his conscience – before turning to the baker and forcing a weak smile. “Thank you sir, but we’re all quite alright.” It falls from his face as soon as he turns away, and he quickly whispers into the woman’s ear – “Follow me.” He leads the Oberon and the woman away from the crowd and back the way they came, quickly looking over his shoulder to see if the Starwatch had seen them. “If they pursue us, I can try to cover our escape, but you’ll have to use the opportunity quickly. As soon as I give the signal, bolt. You’ll both know it when you see it. Oberon, try not to lose either of us, I fear if you do then we may not reunite again.” He walks urgently, though trying not to draw too much attention to himself, and mutters a hasty prayer under his breath.

The whiskey from his flask being providing the most comfort at the moment. A few minutes pass when the woman that helped Berengir from the corner to the Pride, excuses herself in a somewhat verbose way.

While Maria fusses with the bandages, Berengir sticks with what he knows, the drinkin'. When he sees the other woman start to slip away, he interjects:

Thank you Maria, and thank you....er Miss...? I never believe we were properly introduced...Berengir Lok. Can I at least buy you a drink in gratititude?

Oberon & Father Roark: Staying to the side as they leave the Grand Bazaar, Oberon enlist Father Roark to use his divine abilities as needed. The monk continues to make certain the Starwatch or other thugs are not following them. Roark encourages the woman to follow him back to the church. As luck would have it, there was no need to cover their escape as they reach the church without further interruption. Inside the parish, the woman seems a bit more relaxed; Do you have any water here or wine? She was still anxious, but least conversational. My name is Belladonna. My friend Anna has been taken by some bad men.

Alice: Leonel squirms in his chair, anxious and impatient, which then turns to anger; Ran away! How could you say such a thing. We are lovers. She's lost in this city! Can you not help! Leonel calms slightly when Alice requests that he answer a few more questions:
Tell me more about Anna, please. What is her relationship to Bella? Where do they know each other from? How old is she? And how old is Bella? Can you describe Anna?
Anna? She's just a spiritual advisor for Bella. We are all from Korvosa. I've told you this already! Bella is nineteen. I don't know about Anna, thirty, maybe? How many more questions do you have? Anna again? She has pitch black hair, thin, religious tattoos, and always dresses nice.

Did Anna stay with you? If not, do you know where she did stay, and if she knew any other people in Absalom? Maybe someone else from the church of Sarenrae? Bella was going to meet Anna at the Docks, they never made it back to stay with us. Bella is lost in this crazy city. It's been four days! I'm not religious. I don't associate with these people, the Sarenrae.

Is Bella working or stay-at-home? If she's working, what is her job and who is her employer? What about you?
No, she does not work. She barely leaves our home, much less our street, the park ... that's all. Me? Import/Export. The highest quality seafood. That was my role in Korvosa and that is why the Consortium brought me here, so that you could have better shrimp. And yes, Bella was very excited to be in Absalom. She was taking to Green Ridge very well.

Glad to finally be safe in the confines of the church, Oberon relaxes and offers them all a smile. The woman seemed to relax as well, and she asks for some wine, which hopefully settles her jitters.

"My name is Belladonna," she says. "My friend Anna has been taken by some bad men."

"Perhaps introductions are in order. A pleasure to meet you, Belladona. I am Oberon, a... teacher of sorts," Oberon quirks his lips ironically for a moment, but then looks to the priest, giving him the floor.

After introductions, Oberon speaks again. "Now, start from the beginning. Who is Anna? Where were you going with her? What led to her abduction?"

After those questions are answered. Some potential follow-up questions would include:
- Do you have any idea why they targeted you and Anna? What do you do for a living, and what does she do?
- Can you think of anyone that might want to harm you?
- Would you feel safe if we took you home?
- How long have you been gone for? Should we try to notify someone of your whereabouts?

Berengir: Molly, its Molly. Thank ya, but I must be getting back. A girl's gotta earn.

Berengir regards the woman curiously, her enthusiasm to get back to "work" seems uncharacteristic of the average streetwalker, and the name , the name seemed all wrong to him. Not like she'd use her real name, Ber, and mebbe her pimp beats her, or mebbe she just needs the damn coin...and she probably saved your worthless life Berengir.

As you will , Molly, still, it is cold and wet out, and you did save me from a dangerous horde that may still be out there looking for us.

Berengir puts a single gold piece on the bar.

I know you have got to earn, but maybe I could rent a drinking companion?

“Just one second.” Roark retreats to the back of the church while Oberon makes his introductions to retrieve a dusty, but still hopefully palatable, bottle of wine. He brings a couple of glasses with him, placing them on the altar as he decants a drink for the woman. “This is supposed to be saved just for ceremonies, but I think you need it more than I do right now.” He begins to pour another drink before stopping himself. “Oberon, are you in need of a drink too?”

As Oberon finishes his introduction, he hands Belladonna a glass of wine. “I am Father Roark Alba. I preside over this church and keep a watch over the community.” He interjects one more after Oberon finishes his questions. “Take as long as you need to answer, the more detail the better. Remember, we’re both just here to help.”

Oberon & Roark: Oberon is glad to be within the walls of the Church of the Dawnflower. Introducing himself to Belladonna and attempting to have a few questions answered. Father Roark excuses himself for a moment and then returns with ceremonial wine that Belladonna accepts but Oberon prefers to remain focused and does not imbibe. Belladonna responds to the kindness; Thank you for the wine. (she speaks with a prominent Varisian accent) Anna, she's my best friend. They took her last night. She arrived from Korvosa only three days past. Belladonna then breaks down in hysterical sadness.

Berengir & Maria: Molly seems genuinely stunned by Berengir's gesture. She pauses, then moves toward the bar with a sheepish smile. Berengir's instincts are well-versed and his hunch that Molly may not be the woman's real name is correct. Perhaps the name is an alias, considering her current profession? Molly takes a seat at the bar beside Berengir when Maria place a gold coin of her own beside the previous, mentioning information for payment. Molly looks slightly uncomfortable as the expression on her face changes from the slight smile to a more serious look. What kinda con are you two at here?, Molly suggests in a sarcastic, yet playful way. Assuming that Leonel gives her what she wants, she will head next to the docks to make a first quick ask-around-tour to find out if someone has seen Anna or Bella in the last 4 days at the docks, hoping to get a first trail.

So, if I understand correctly, she can apply diplomacy to gather information. As such, she can ask around in [roll0] hours instead of 1d4, and people are generally friendlier to her there. Additionally, she has the Follow Up (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/rogue/archetypes/paizo---rogue-archetypes/investigator) feature from the investigator archetype. In that other life from his past, Oberon would have enjoyed consoling this poor lady and taken advantage of her grief. Years of imprisonment and torture has a way of realigning one's moral compass. The priest seems to be handling it rather well, though Oberon couldn't be sure of the man's true motives. Seemed decent enough so far. Not wanting to pile on the questions lest he turn it into an interrogation, Oberon awaits for Belladonna to answer the priest's inquiries.

Roark and Oberon: Looking up at the priest from her seat on the church pew. Belladonna speaks about Anna; She, she's been my friend for many years. She came about a ship from Korvosa, our native Varisia, to spend time with me. We were leaving a pub near the Docks, The Doxy, when men grabbed us and placed hoods on our heads. I lost consciousness. When I awoke, I was in a smelly place, a sewer maybe, chained to the wall. It was horrible. Belladonna again becomes upset in the retelling. Anna was gone. I was there for what seemed like another day. When a man came to take me, again with a hood, and bound my hands in rope. The knot he tied was loose. When I felt the sun on my body, I pushed into the thug with my shoulder and got away. I was chased into the Bazaar when we met, you and Oberon. How can I ever repay you?

Berengir: Molly turns to speak with Berengir; So, wait, you and Maria both hire folk for information? Are ya working together or do ya compete for the same chalk? I gots to know who to do the tell'n. But, I do appreciate the drink. If there ain't noth'n else, I'll be tak'n my leave.

Oberon found it peculiar that Anna had already disappeared by the time Belladonna awoke. A good-natured person like Belladonna would assume the worst befell her friend. A cynical person like Oberon, however, assumed Anna was in on it, perhaps luring young ladies for whatever nefarious ends might land her a coin or two. At least they got a single clue, the Doxy. But that's a long shot to an answer.

After Belladonna calmed a bit, Oberon finally spoke up again. "I'm glad that you've returned, and that you fought for it. No need to repay me. Perhaps in the future you can visit one of my self-defense classes so you can better protect yourself against assailants, free of charge. But for now, just a few more questions, if you don't mind." If she motions for him to proceed, Oberon will ask:

"After you attacked your captor, where were you when you were first able to see again? Perhaps we can look around the area to see if we can find out anything."

"Did you ever overhear anything the guards might have said? Even something you didn't understand, any unique words, or meetings or anything that might be helpful?"

"Would you feel safe if we took you back home, or do you think they were specifically targeting you? Do you have family or friends who might be concerned you're missing? Perhaps we can contact them."

Oberon: Belladonna takes the last sip of wine from her glass and attempts to answer Oberon's questions; I, I was so confused, maybe a small park, the sun was to my left and then at my back. I don't know, I just ran and ran until I saw the Bazaar in the distance. I kept running.

The guards, they were not like guards, but more Cerulean, perhaps. They spoke a tongue I did not understand. It was harsh, like angry. All the men were angry.

Yes, my lover, Leonel. I don't know if it is safe, but I would like to go there. He has good work and would reward you for escorting me home. I have a cat too. I named her Anna. We live in Green Ridge.

Father Roark: Contemplating what Belladonna may have gotten herself into. Father Roark listens intently as she answers Oberon's questions and his ears do not ignore the fact that this Leonel, the lover, might make a charitable donation to the church.

Berengir: After explaining the working relationship between himself and Maria to Molly. Berengir contemplates his knowledge of Nobility and things Local.

Maria: Molly thanks Maria for allowing her to rest at the Lion's Pride when appropriate. She then mentions; Would you rather attend this party? I mean, if you really want to go, we can work something out? Maybe 20 gold measure for the invitation?

Roark silently offers to refill Belladonna’s glass as she finishes it off. “What happened during your time in captivity? Were you kept alone, or did anyone visit your cell at any point?” Whoever had captured the two women had enough space to keep them separate, that would suggest multiple cells – perhaps even more unfortunate captives. “I advise we take you back to Leonel and make a judgement on whether you’ll be safe there. If one of them escaped, that means he may be able to lead the rest of his ilk back to this church.” Roarks grits his teeth - he'll have to make preparations for if that time comes.

Berengir Lok

Berengir gets that deja vu feeling as Molly offers the invitation. Almost immediately, Berengir sees something he has seen before to, on Molly's face. Berengir had seen it on a starving woman's face once, when she standing in front of a bakery. She wants this so badly, and she can't afford it. Funny how 20 gold seemed like such an enormous amount nowadays, Berengir distinctly recalled his grandfather paying more than 20 gold for a pair of shoes, that he didn't like. You owe her Ber, she helped you out and you tanked her deal. Berengir draws a sharp intake of breath, which causes him to wince a little from the crack it got earlier. He drums hands on the bar to ease the pain and says to Molly:

20 Gold? Aw, you are sweet darling, but it's not worth it. These "parties" can get a bit theatrical, quite a few ladies have quit the party worse for wear, the blue bloods are a bit rough with their brushes, I've knew one girl who couldn't work for a month after some fop tattoo'd her for her critique of his masterpiece. It will take 20 marks just to hire good protection for that sort of party.

If one pays close attention, Berengir has 7 fingers splayed out on the bar.

Father Roark: Offering the young woman a second glass of wine, she kindly refuses. Belladonna replies; I remember Anna being in the room for a moment, but I was not in a cell, or it didn't seem like it. It felt more like a stone column that I was tied to in an open space. ... Yes, please, escort me to Leonel. We must go at once.

Oberon: Oberon mentions to Father Roark that he might stay at the church for a few days. He then encourages Belladonna and questions her about her captors. I do not know, she replies. The young woman stands and brushes some straw off of her dress. Noticing that her dress is torn in a few places, she pouts a bit and sighs.

Berengir: In an attempt to sway Molly from attending the party, Berengir elaborates on the details of such an event and why attending is a bad idea. His attempt falls short as Molly places her hand on his and speaks with sincerely, Oh deary, ya don't have to fear fer me. I'm new to this city, but I been at this fer a while. The tone of her voice and plain speaking is enough to make the half-orc blush.

Ryl Aufein: The sun was setting in Absalom as Ryl stood across the street from the newly built Church of Asmodeus in the Ascendant Court district of the city; only two years post construction. The wind blew slightly from the south. Tradewinds brought a nice breeze into perpendicular streets this time of year. Ryl had been in the city for 10 days and was no closer to finding his family members than he was hiding within the walls of the church in Westcrown. His mind wandered as he pondered crossing the street. The sidewalks were crowded this time of day and Ryl tempered the sensation of feeling invisible among the masses. Any given person, on any given day, can be elated with joy or amiss due to some tragic circumstance. Ryl whispered this thought within himself as he watched the crowds sway like schools of fish in the Inner Sea. His process was interrupted by a verbal grunt. Was this a daydream or an actual noise. Ryl was momentarily confused as he was swept from his current state of torpor. Guurrr. Looking down an elderly human man in dirty robes looked back at Ryl as he sat pretzel-style on the sidewalk, his gaunt features and wisp of grey hair upon his nearly bald head gave away his apparent age. His eyes were not quite blue, but not green, somewhere 'tween the two. Guurrr, he grunted again at Ryl with his raspy baritone voice.

"Thank you, Oberon. If you can spare the time, your protection would be most valuable." Roark nods politely as Belladonna's insistence. "Yes, of course. I can't imagine how worried he must be." He turns back to Oberon. "Assuming you have no further questions, I say we make our leave. As you say, first to Leonel, then to the Doxy."

Not sure what colors have been taken so far so unless told otherwise will use red

It's so odd looking at all of these people and woundering what each of them is dreaming about each night. Do they fear the unknown beyound the walls of this city, perhaps the poorer parts of town where the guards patrol less because it is harder to control the gangs? Maybe that one is dreaming about slaying a vile demon. Ryl thinks as he watches a little child swinging a wooden sword as if it were a real weapon, and no doubt in the boys mind it was. "An ancient artifact passed down since the dawn of time in his family who were once the proud guardians of an empire." Ryl muses aloud a warm, kind smile on his face as his eyes followed the child until he was no longer within Ryl's eyesight.

In truth Ryl was a bit jealous of the boy who seemed to not have a care in the world, while he had been on the run but a few years older than the boy from unknown assassins trying to destroy his family for some unknown reason. It is that innocence that keeps me moving each day in the search for my family, I have to protect them from the same fate that befell the rest of us. Ryl told himself, though in truth if he ever found his family members who were said to be in this town he really wouldn't know what to do. Simply settle down and never reveal himself to them, always staying close though in case they ever needed his aid? Reveal himself to them and hope they would accept him into their small little family? No these were the ideals of a child, something that had been stripped from him, he would stay close to them however he could never let them know who he truly was or who he served now. They would not understand why he served the Lord of Hell, few outsiders ever understood the true battle from the dawn of time and the sacrifice that was made to protect man from being destroyed by monsters beyond their understanding so long ago, but he had a few pieces to the story, and knew that sometimes evil was necessary to bring about a brighter world.

Taken back to the real world by the sudden distinct Gurr like sound Ryl began to reach for his crossbow he kept hidden inside of his robes, however when he saw the poor elderly man his features relaxed as he bent down so he could see the mans odd eyes. "Hello sir, are you trying to get my attention? Perhaps you want me to get the guards, or maybe you think because of my robe that I am a girl. Though I can assure you I am not." Ryl says trying to lighten the mood slightly and appear friendly and helpful to the man, though something seemed off, odd even and he made sure to let his special friend know this from where he was hiding in the shadows away from the people. "I am sorry sir but if you can not tell me more than such a simple gurr I must bid you ado for I do not understand what it is you are asking of me." Ryl explains as he stops crouching and returns to his full height, which is still rather small for most males of his race.

Oberon

Satisfied that he's probably gathered as much information as possible from Belladonna, Oberon nods at Father Roark as the priest was getting up to go. "I'll try to check on you daily for the next few days, just to make sure you're safe once you're home," he says to Belladonna. "First, let's make sure we get you home safely. Perhaps we can cover with a simple cloak and hood to help mask your identity?"

The plan is that Oberon and Father Roark will escort Belladonna home, and then visit the Doxy afterwards.

When he gets a chance, he takes Maria aside, out of earshot (and lipreading) of Molly and Scab.

I hope you are up to this, kid. These "parties" are the big leagues, some of the most powerful families in Absalom attend them. This is where the real business in this city gets done, you can make coin off of just seeing who attends and who talks to whom, let alone what kind of deals go down.

Father Roark & Oberon: Roark thanks Oberon for agreeing to stay around the church for a few days. He then agrees that taking Belladonna to her boyfriend in Green Ridge and then visiting The Doxy was the next course of action. Oberon lays out a plan to hide Belladonna's identity as they proceed to escort Belladonna home, and then visit the Doxy afterwards. Belladonna tries to explain which way to turn and what roads to take, but she's not that great with directions and the three of you seem to zig and zag your way through the district. The two of you hear a loud CRACK from the south as Oberon feels a sharp pain enter his back. The monk takes [roll0] points of damage. Belladonna reacts with fear and pulls away. Ryl: Ryl has a hunch that the man has purpose and is not a random homeless person. The man reaches upward as Ryl stands. He grins, exposing that all of his teeth are not present. Then the man extends his hand in a fist; Open you hand, expand your mind, and take this gift I present. The elderly man speaks with a prophetic tone and the presence of ages past. Open your hand. Take this gift.

Maria & Berengir: Molly drinks until she can barely walk and looks for a cot or bed within the Lion's Pride in which to sleep. Where, bed, thank'ya deary. Scab finally stirs and walks out, waving a hand as he does so. He left 3 pennies on the table as a tip. Two human men walk in a few moments after Scab. The bell rings again to alert Maria of their entrance. They both appear to be tradesmen, possible working the Bazaar or something similar. They take a seat at a table against the far wall, not at the bar.

Roark’s eyes dart to the thug by the wall, drawn by the crack of the gun. He stares down the figure for a moment, doing his best to size him up, before he becomes aware of another noise – a grunt of pain from Oberon, as blood blooms under his clothes.

“Hells!” Roark raises one hand, channels his faith through his fingertips, and released a billowing cloud of mist. In an instant it swallows the trio, pouring down the street and reaching into the sky, giving them some much-needed cover. Drawing his scimitar, he turns to his allies and lowers his voice, letting the words pour out. “At least one gunman, hidden by the northwest wall. Shooting to kill, so not a random mugging.” Run or fight, he knows they need to make their choice quickly.

A loud grunt escaped Oberon's mouth as he grits his teeth, slumping and catching himself on Belladonna's shoulder as he instinctively moved to shield her. He had just enough time to turn his head and try to see his assailant, but a thick mist formed around them. This was more than just a flesh wound that he could easily ignore. Once the rush of combat was over, Oberon knew he'd pay for this oversight. He cursed himself for not noticing the gunman.

Calm yourself, Oberon ordered himself mentally, repeating the oft spoken mantra during his days of training in the far off mountains. There is no situation that you could not escape from. There is no situation that you could not turn to your advantage.Think!

Oberon spent a heartbeat to gather his thoughts. There wasn't much time. "This can't be a coincidence. You two stick together, run and seek asylum. A gunman is at a disadvantage in close combat."

Without pause, Oberon turns and explodes with a burst of speed out of the mist, charging straight for the direction the priest mentioned.

Even in a stupor, the "mixed breed" and the disdain it was said with, hammered it's way through Berengir's ears and triggered old defenses. Alice: Opening the door for Zhou, Alice is confronted with a shy, meagerly dressed half elf male. Zhou is holding a piece of folded parchment bound with string. Miss Alice, Master Leonel wanted you to have this. He said the contents were found in the middle of his dining table. Nothing but this Miss Alice. He hands to parchment to Alice. Should I go now Miss Alice?

Oberon: Regarding his wound and then acknowledging the little boy, Oberon asks where he was. As the boy answers, Green Ridge, Oberon becomes aware that he remains in the spot where he killed the bandit. Surprisingly, nothing has been stolen from him and he is still alive. A bit fuzzy from the sleep spell, Oberon sees no sign of the dead bandit or the his associates. Voices can be heard around the corner.

Roark: Gingerly rubbing the boot mark on his face, Father Roark returns to consciousness. Checking his person, he notices that none of his possessions were stolen. The bandits were certainly after Belladonna and not to rob them. The beautiful woman who woke him attempts to answer his questions; My name? I am Belén. I live just there, across the street. I heard some noise and came out to see. ... Ober..., Belladonna... I'm afraid that I've seen no one else. Only you, Father.

Maria: Explaining her principles to the tradesmen, Maria's silver tongue smooths the situation and the men thank her for the drinks, leave their coin on the table and quietly exit the pub. Maria notices Berengir sharing his ale with a slightly larger, rougher-looking half-orc.

Ryl: Ryl crosses the street to the Church of Asmodeus where he examines the bone more carefully. After some time Ryl is able to discern a strong aura of divination magic on the bone. In an attempt to use the bone as a magical device, Ryl comes to the conclusion that there must be some other component(s) for this bone to serve its purpose. Entering the church, a petite, dark-skinned woman dressed in purple and black robes greets Ryl; All hell bends to his will, Hail the Prince of Darkness, His time is nigh. She bows slightly and awaits some acknowledgement from Ryl.

Rufus: Waiting in the corner should things go wrong, Rufus listens in on the conversation between Alice and Zhou.

Berengir: After explaining to Truk how he doesn't have the money to help pay off Truk's gambling debt. Berengir mentions that he might have a job for his friend in the near future. Truk responds; Um, bad news fer Truk, maybe, um, we roll Penny Boy, say, you say? Yes! we roll Penny's! Truk git club. The half-orc stands, his chair falling backwards, rambling a bit on the floor as he proceeds toward the door.

Oberon

Mountain's breath! I must've been knocked out pretty badly, Oberon thought to himself in disbelief as he realized his surroundings.

Assuming the perpetrators to be long gone, Oberon ignores the voices nearby for the moment. He creaks his neck, and looks at the boy for a few heartbeats. "Might be your lucky day here, boy. Got a gold coin if you can tell me what you saw here." He rummages his pouch and pull out a gold coin, flashing it at the boy.

She shows Zhou the way to the living room / office, takes a seat behind the desk, and motions Zhou to sit in the very same place that Leonel had sat a few hours ago. Then, she unrolls the parchment.

I see so either it is meant for me to commune with someone, or for someone to be able to watch me, no doubt from the other end. I believe I will be placing this inside a safe place. Ryl says as he looks to his loyal companion. "Open your mouth please." He directs the summon before placing the item inside. "Now when you return to your home plane I expect you to drop that item off in a safe place where no one shall find it until we find whatever it is supposed to connect to, we do not want it being used against us, is that understood?" Ryl asks the outsider, making sure it understood what he wanted it to do.

"All hail the lord of of law, who even the gods do not disrupt in his proceedings of carrying out his sacred duty. We shall bring law to this unholy land, and the name of Asmendous shall be upon the lips of all citizens." Ryl replies in kind, bowing his head to the sister. "I have not meet you here before, then again I have only been here for a little over a week now. Could you tell me if anyone has come here recently fitting this description?" Ryl asks the young priestess, describing his acquaintance Oberon to her.

" I see, well thank you for your time, I must be off, I think he may be in danger and the Lord has plans for him I believe." Ryl explains rushing back outside and trying to search the few places he had seen the man before.

Damn it. Roark sighs heavily to himself as rises to his feet, propping himself up against the wall. “Thank you for coming to my aid, madam. How long ago did you hear the noise? I need to know how long I was out.” Then, as guilt washes through his mind, another question forms. “Do you happen to know if someone named Leonel lives nearby? Darkness falls.

Oberon: Flashing the gold measure at the lad in hopes of retrieving information, the boy looks at the coin with the gaze of a Bodak. I saw you! Hahaha! You're bleeding, mister. ... my sister, she saw another man. The lad points toward the east. Looking around the corner you see two figures, one could be Father Roark.

Alice & Rufus: Zhou nods timidly toward Rufus; G'day sir, as he takes a seat appointed by Alice. Unrolling the parchment, Alice finds a single card, 2-inches square, stamped upon it in black ink is a trident. This is the mark of the Black Sahuagin, a once powerful gang within Absalom, but now reduced to only a few members and petty theft. Rufus is immediately aware of the significance of the card. In an earlier time, the Pistolero would have left a similar card at the scene of an assassination, or to warn, in a mocking way, a potential target that they had 24-hours to live.

Maria: Finishing up a few pub-specific duties, Maria prepares for the evening rush of patrons. But, the rush never comes. A few regulars drop by for a laugh and a shot of Throatburn (a very potent whisky typically made by the gnomes of Kalsgard, but distilled now in Absalom with less quality under the same name). Berengir and Truk have their exchanges, comings and goings when an older man enters the bar. His aesthetic is not one that Maria would normally serve. Homeless vagrants typically carry no coin. The man wore dirty, torn robes as he slowly saddled-up to the bar, his gaunt features and wisp of grey hair upon his nearly bald head gave away his apparent age. His eyes were not quite blue, but not green, somewhere 'tween the two. The man stares at Maria for a moment; rice wine.

Ryl: Having sent the bone to a distant plane via his eidolon, Ryl turned to the acolyte for information concerning the possible sighting of Oberon. No, my brother, I have not seen your companion. She bows and walks deeper into the church. Ryl continues to look for Oberon, possibly in Green Ridge.

Roark: As Roark questions the woman, she attempts to answer his questions; At first, we heard the loud crack, my baby brother and I. It wasn't until we heard a woman screaming that we came outside. It took a bit to wake you as well, maybe 10 minutes? ... Leonel? Leonel Coruna? Why yes, he and his lover, Bella, live two doors down. I'll take you.

Oberon:

Oberon's heart stutters at what looks to be the priest. They didn't make it out? He wonders to himself, but he could already guess the answer. Anyone capable of taking him out would easily dispatch a priest burdened by a dependent.

Oberon flips the boy the gold coin without thought as he turns and walked towards what looks like Roark and another figure. As he gets closer and his fears are realized, Oberon lets out a harsh curse, knowing it's his fault that they're in this predicament again. Should've been more alert. Should've gone straight to the Starwatch. Arrogance always took its payment.

He claps the priest on his shoulder by way of greeting, and nods slightly at the lovely woman speaking to Roark, listening in their conversation as the woman explained the recent events.

Oberon will introduce himself after she's finished, and follow along. He also used Sense Motive on her (rolled a 22 in the OOC thread since I can't roll from editing if I remember right).

Now where in the nine hells is that man? He never misses his sparing session. Ryl thinks to himself as he walks through Green Ridge with darkness beginning to fall. "It seems we may have to stop and spend the night in this part of town my friend, I do not like the idea of us trying to walk back to the temple in the darkness." Ryl states to the outsider walking directly behind him, the problem was Ryl wasn't very familiar with this part of town and as such didn't know where to go. All this time he had stayed close to the temple district, making short explorations throughout the city each day to look for his family, however he had never made it this far before due to not knowing enough information about the area, and thus not having a clear destination to set up shop for his search. However here he was now, and there was very little he could do about it, something told him his friend was in danger and he would wished to see how badly.

As such Ryl and his summon began looking for a inn to stay the night, he could ask questions there about Obren and with luck make a few contacts in this part of town.

Roark sighs with relief at the woman’s answer. “Thank you so much, you have no idea how much this helps us. As soon as my friend is up, we must-” He is cut off as Oberon firmly claps his shoulder. “…One second.” He turns to his ally and, noticing his wound hasn’t got any better, grabs his arm in return. He closes his eyes as he begins to summon forth divine energy. Adressing Oberon now, his tone shifts to one of concern. "How bad did they get you? Aside from the bullet wound, I mean."

Merely wounded pride, that's all. Nothing that will affect me for long, as my master used to tell me. Now, I take it our charge has been taken from us? I was thinking of heading straight to the Doxy, it's our only lead after all. There's also someone I know that may be able to help us out. Oberon: They didn't make it out? Oberon wonders to himself as he sees the priest speaking to a woman in the street. It's dark now but the street lamps of Green Ridge provide low light visibility. The monk moves closer to Father Roark to listen to the conversation. Oberon has a hunch that the young woman is genuine and wanting to help. Oberon welcomes the healing by Father Roark and mentions someone that might be able to help them.

Roark: The priest heals Oberon as Belén offers to escort them to Leonel's home.

Ryl: Looking for Oberon, Ryl doesn't want to be stuck in an unfamiliar neighborhood at night, so he looks for nearby lodging and finds what looks to be an older and prestigious building, The Anvil & Ivy near the north-western section of the district.

Maria: The old man slides a silver weight across the bar. Rice wine was consumed by the gods. It is said that Aroden favored it over all drink. Tell me of your first encounter with this beverage?

Alice: Showing the card to Rufus, Alice asks Zhou if his master is at home and if he is alone. Zhou replies, Master Leonel is at home, yes miss, and no, he is not alone. The help of the house is with him along with one of the masters from his employ.

It would do well to proceed with caution. We may be walking in to another ambush, yet, we must also hurry, for perhaps we may be able to spoil their actions. Such is our predicament."

Oberon briefly introduces himself to the woman, and then asks her to point the way while he takes the lead. Moving cautiously with his staff ready in hand, Oberon proceeds to Leonel's house, eyes alert.

Ryl: enters the Anvil and Ivy after dismissing this eidolon for the evening. The Inn is one of the older buildings in Absalom and maintained in excellent condition. A human man, well dressed, with thinning hair white hair welcomes you from behind the counter; And how may I help you today, sir? He replies that he does have open rooms, 2gp per night, and that you are not too late for dinner; No sir, dinner is still being served, local fowl and fava beans. How many nights will you be staying? Maria: Pocketing the bone, Maria feels an unusual warm sensation from the bone in her pocket. It's atypical for sure. Curious about what it could be, the little brass bell rings as another potential patron walks in; a muscular half-orc who's more human than orc with light brown skin, no presence of tusks but the heavy brow and overstated jawline are dead giveaways to the visitor's heritage. He approaches the bar; Hey, uh, you see Molly here? She come here? I'm her friend, Brak.

Roark: Belén shrugs when Roark mentions if Sam's voice is recognizable; Maybe? He seems to know me. After Roark's conversation with Sam beyond the fence, the latch releases and a burly, tall human with shoulder-length brown hair opens the gate. He wears leather armor and holds a short sword with a crossbow and bolt quiver equipped to his back. Hi Belin, ok, so you know where miss Bella is? Beyond the gate is a stately manor. The home of Leonel.

Oberon: Peering inside a double window of Leonel's manor, Oberon witnesses a young Varisian man pacing about and talking with an older, balding man in green and yellow robes. The conversation seems intense. There are no signs of trouble or forced entry. It's hard to make out the conversation between Roark and the guard, but Oberon does notice that the burly, tall human opens the gate for Roark and Belén.

However when the server comes by he puts his fork down, making sure no food was in his mouth before speaking. "This meal is truly amazing, compliments to the chef. However that is not the only reason I stopped you, I was wondering if you knew a man by the name of Oberon. It seems we got separated in the markets, and I wasn't able to find him before I had to retire for the night."

Roark gives no obvious response to Belen's answer - he'll have to size Sam up for himself. He takes in the view of the mansion as the gate opens, and of the man who opened it. "We'd rather speak to Mr Coruna directly. We've gone through a lot of trouble to get here-" he points to the mark the boot left on his jaw, "-and we'd prefer that, with a matter as delicate and as deeply personal as this, he be the first to know. I'm sure you'd understand if you were in his shoes."

Oberon: Joining Roark and Belén, Oberon implores Sam to let them speak with Leonel.

Roark: Roark has no hunch about Sam either way. The guard let's the three of you in, then locks the gate behind you; Uh, you have ta leave ur weapons with me, in tha basket, front door. That's rules. Sam walks over to the door. I'll be back. Sam returns moments later, Uh, master Leonel says to wait in the foyay with me, ok. Sam watches as any weapons you have are left in the basket at the front door. He even pats you down, but not Belén to make certain you don't sneak anything inside. The home is well decorated in the modern style of the day. The foyer is cozy for the four of you. Two men can be heard arguing in an adjacent, central room.

Ryl: The server stops, he is a tall human man with slick-backed black hair. He pauses to consider the question for a moment; Actually, I do know Master Oberon. He taught my wife and I in the martial arts. I can have him paged for you in the morning if you'd like?

Alice & Rufus: Zhou leads Alice and Rufus in a round-about way to the residence of Leonel. Zhou arrives at the front gate; There is no back entrance, sir. He knocks, Sam, Sam, it's Zhou, let me in. There is a simple sign upon the solid wooden gate; Under Guard — No Trespassing.

Maria: My Molly, I'll bet ya. She stay'n here with you? Coz, she ain't in the usual places. You tell 'er Brak's here and I need my coin! Brak seems agitated, building toward anger.

Roark & Oberon: Roark attempts to listen in on the conversation, only hearing a few coarse words now and again. Sam interjects, Sum body knock at gate, I will be back, don't move. Belén waits patiently. Oberon places his staff in the basket, which doesn't quite fit, and remarks to Sam about weapons you don't think about. Sam retorts, Yur a funny guy, hahahaha. Don't move. Oberon is able to overhear the conversation. The two men and speaking about coin. How much was lent to Leonel by the other man, whose name is never mentioned. The lender is upset, he calls Leonel incompetent, he mentions sending him back to Korvosa packed in sardines. The sum is 20,000 gold measure. The lender insists that Leonel repay the coin with interest in 24 hours. There is no mention of Bella except as an excuse by Leonel.

Ryl: Any tip you see fit, will do. I'll make certain master Oberon is summoned at first light., the server departs gracefully. Ryl then departs to his room which is nicely furnished and provided with fresh fruit and wine.

Alice & Rufus: Zhou continues to pound on the gate when it is opened by a burly human. Zhou, you ar' back. Nice. Who ar' these people? What they want? Zhou informs Sam that Miss Alice was hired by master Leonel to find mistress Bella. Sam nods and lets you in the gate; Uh, there are some oth'r people waiting in lobby. You wait too.

Oberon smiles solemnly as Sam departs, immediately going towards the door Sam left behind, opening it a crack. Might be Belladonna's captors. Oberon disregards Leonel's conversation for now, feeling he's already gotten the gist of it, and instead focuses his attention towards the entrance.

From what he's gathered from Leonel's conversation, it seems very likely that Belladonna's disappearance is no coincidence, though even if it's not related to this, it's possible it's related to some other scheme Leonel's involved in. Either way, they were just attacked moments ago, the perpetrators may be here for Leonel now.

Oberon stays relaxed, prepared to lash out at the first sign of danger as the new guests arrived. He was surprised to see Leonel address them in a friendly manner, and assumed they were friends, or at least acquaintances. If they were involved in Belladonna's disappearance, it wasn't done in a direct manner.

My understanding is that Ms. Alice under Leonel's employ, which I took to presume means that it's her job to find Belladonna. Whether or not you help strangers is your choice, perhaps you and Ms. Alice prefers to work alone, but Belladonna was under my care when she last disappeared, and it simply will not do for word to spread that someone could be taken from me and not suffer a great a deal of consequences, the kind of consequences that will require as much help as possible, so I'm off to gather more help."

Oberon is summoned by Ryl via messenger to The Anvil & Ivy, a very good inn within the Green Ridge district.
Maria sleeps in knowing that she doesn't have to open until noon with one full day plus most of a second to prepare for the Theatrical party.

Alice wakes early, pacing a bit as she considers the unfolding events.
Rufus is slightly hungover from last night's drinking. The Doxy is known for its proximation to the docks and its place of both legal and illegal commerce.
Roark rises early to greet his congregation.

It was quite late by the time he arrived, so he set his internal clock to wake before first light, and went straight to sleep.

The previous day's action must have taken a toll on Oberon, since he overslept. By the time he awoke, the sun had already risen, and as he went to the commons area, he found Ryl enjoying speaking to another person.

Oberon smiled solemnly as he approached the man, the eidolon nowhere in sight at the moment. "It is good to see you, my friend," Oberon greeted him. "Apologies for missing yesterday's appointment, I have much to tell you, but we're running short on time, so it's best if we move as we talk. Should you choose to not pursue this dangerous undertaking, you can always go back here, but there's a meeting I must attend to now. Shall we go?"

Assuming that Ryl does go, Oberon will spill every detail of his encounter the previous day, starting with seeing his old friend, running into Bella and Roark, all the way until the night's end. dantiesilva if you need the actual details (not sure how much of everyone's interactions you've read), just let me know.

In any case, he would tell Ryl all the details as they walk to Roark's church to meet up with the gang. And then weren't we supposed to meet at Alice's office...?

"And I you Oberon, I was worried when you didn't arrive for our normal training session. I hope everything is well." Ryl says kindly, though a hint of worry enters his voice towards the end. " I do not see why I can not spare some time to help you, at least for a short time. I have a ball to attend it seems tonight." the scholar looking man explains to his warrior friend as they depart the Anvil & Ivy.

"So what exactly is this all about Oberon? I am mostly following you out of curiosity as it has to be something important for you to have missed your sparring session the other day." Ryl explains his reasons for joining Oberon as they make haste to their destination, listening closely to what his friend told him.

I do not read anything not intended for my character sadly due to the fact it would be OOC knowledge and I sometimes am known to blur that line with small things like what two characters actually shared with one another while one was not there.

Oberon:

Oberon had just enough time to give Ryl the details of the previous day's events. They arrived at the church, and Oberon opens the door for Ryl, waiting to see if the man would join them in this dangerous endeavor or not. He had no reason to help out a stranger. Oberon himself was uncertain if he'd be so readily helpful if his pride and reputation weren't on the line.

I provided an outline of what Oberon would've told Ryl in the OOC thread.

Maria reaches out to her contacts and in doing so, bumps into Rufus, an old friend from time past. Rufus is on his way to meet some friends. Maria recalls that Rufus had some dealing with the Black Sahuagin, but she could not remember what it was. 1) The Black Sahuagin primarily operates out of the Puddles district. 2) Their leader is known as Leviathan. 3) They were once as powerful as the Bloody Barbers but little is known of their downfall. 4) The Doxy was a known hangout of Black Sahuagin members. 5) No one seems to know about the party tomorrow evening. If they do, they're not talking.
Roark finishes his sermon and waits for Oberon and the others to arrive.
Ryl enjoys a complimentary breakfast while waiting for Oberon to arrive. Once the monk joins Ryl the two discuss the kidnapping and circumstances at hand. After some time, they meet Roark at his church. Ryl has a party to attend tomorrow evening.
Rufus tends to his hangover and while on his way to Roark's church, he meets the Maria, a bartending half-drow from his distant past. The two walk together toward the church.

Alice does not join the group. After waiting for her more than an hour. The group must make a decision on whether to move on or not. There is a heavy KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCK at the door to the church. Messenger service, sir. A youthful male voice can be heard on the opposite side of the door.

Does Maria join the group now or later? Who will take care of the Lion's Pride? Molly perhaps? Berengir?

Roark greets the two strangers to his church with open arms. "Welcome! I am sorry that we have to meet under such messy circumstances."

Upon hearing the knock, Roark assumes that Alice was finally rejoining them, but stops in his tracks upon hearing the male voice. Cautious, he peers under the door to try and see the number of silhouettes standing outside. If there is only one, Roark will venture outside to receive the message. "Who sent you?"

As the two walked, Ryl listened patiently and quietly, allowing his friend to explain everything that had happened in detail this way neither would have a misunderstanding later down the road. At last Ryl speaks up, each word carefully chosen. "It seems you simply enjoy walking around the marketplace waiting for someone to need help, I can not fault you on such actions. If my own mission was not so important I highly doubt I would not be doing the same thing. However my family line is at stake, and that is something I can not put aside." Ryl explains calmly, keeping his thoughts collected.

"However you say this woman you tried to rescue said their were in fact others with her being held prisoner. Given the fact I have family I am looking for within this city I can not turn a blind eye to such a crime, espically if one of the women could be my niece." Ryl continues as they near the temple, taking note of the symbol to which the church worshiped before looking at his friend. " I hope whoever we are going to meet inside is well aware of my beliefs and will not try attacking my friends should they choose to join us in this fight. After all when it comes to religion many people have a hard time allowing followers of other faiths into their own temple." Ryl points out, showing the holy symbol to Asmendous around his neck.

Upon meeting the stranger who seemed to run the church, Ryl extends his hand, the sleeve of his robe rolling up slightly as he does so. "It is good to meet you as well. My name is Ryl Aufein, heir to the Aufein family. Before we get started do you have an open area I could use quickly, I believe our muteral friend wished for an aquaintance of mine to join us?" Ryl asks showing respect to the priest for Ryl was not in his own temple, but one of another deity.

Oberon:

Oberon pauses at the doorsteps of the church, looking at Ryl, and then at the symbol of the church. It never occurred to him that the priest might shun Ryl. Oberon himself had no use for the church, and never really paid them much attention, thus he was at a loss as to Roark's beliefs. Come to think of it, he wasn't even sure who the priest worshipped. "Ah... I suppose we'll find out soon enough. Roark's a pleasant enough fellow, but one never knows, I suppose."

When the knock at the door came, Oberon's first thought was that it was Alice, but then the young man's voice proved otherwise. Roark took the correct approach using caution. Oberon himself stealthily moved next to the door, his back to the wall, ready to attack anyone if they crash in.

Thinking of his eioldon only made him wish to call it forth now at this moment, however he knew it would not be the best of times at this exact moment, better to wait until he was inside.

Ryl and Oberon discuss the nuances of religion and respecting the temple of another deity as Oberon explains his lack of need for religion of any kind. All believe that Alice has finally arrived, but the male voice at the door to the church changes that assumption. Roark approaches the door and sees only one silhouette.

Roark opens the door to find a young half-elf male dressed in messenger clothing. There are several such "runners" who are employed throughout Absalom to deliver correspondence. This messenger wears a bright orange sash from shoulder to hip placing him in the employ of the Navigators, a known service. The half elf presents a small wooden box and speaks in an upbeat manner; Good morning sir, I have a delivery for this address. I apologise but no name was registered. He hands the box to Roark.

"Why of course, if you could give me a moment." Ryl say stepping back before throwing out his arms to both sides, his carefully tended to hands being shown for one of the first times as he goes through the many arcane gestures required to call forth his friend Nazumi. As Ryl's hands create the gestures required for the spell, he speaks the infernal tongue, calling forth a creature he simply keeps on referring to as Nazumi. Promising it a fine meal if it were to come to his call.

Moments later the smell of Brimstone enters the room, as a tiny portal opens in the shadows of the temple, hidden from the common onlooker. A few squeeks can be heard before a rat with bone like protrusions, and rust like fur comes scrambling over to Ryl's side. "It is good to see you again Nazumi, how is the family?" Ryl asks the creature as he bends down and offers his hand out for it to climb up his arm to reach his shoulder.

"Nazumi we happen to hold with us a strange gift, and on the gift we were told to eat it. And saying I have not seen you in such a long time I felt it only right to give you a proper meal from the material plane. If one of the two people here cut a tentacle off for you, would you mind eating it? If you want whatever you do not finish you can even take home to your family." Ryl says with a familiarity most would find unsettling.

This whole Conversation between Ryl and Nazumi will be taking place in infernal as it is the only way they can communicate, sorry. It was odd for the creature to be fussy when it came to eating food, espically saying he was a rat and given the smell something had to be wrong with this creature that he would not try to eat it.

"I think what we have here is some kind of poisonous fish, or other such creature, and someone was trying to get rid of you with ease. Nazumi like typical rats is not a picky eater, however he is smart enough to know when not to eat something. I do not know what you wish to do with that, however I suggest we get rid of it before it stinks out your entire church." Maria is curious about Alice and why a gang would want her. Then, wonders what Alice's fate might be after Ryl instructs on the virtues of lawful behavior.
Ryl considers a connection between the octopus in the jar and the kidnapping of Alice. He also instructs Maria in lawful behavior and duty.
Roark searches for something to generate a more pleasant aroma in the church. He is also startled by Zhou's revelation. Roark has a hunch that Zhou is trustworthy and believes his tale to be true. He has only heard of the Wobbegang is passing and has no true knowledge of them.
Oberron turns his attention to questioning Zhou and awaiting his response. The thought of the smell turns his stomach.
Rufus also questions Zhou and finds his emotions spinning in all directions. Alice was a friend and confidant. She was also an excellent investigator and known for her precautionary approach. Still bothered by the smell of the octopus, he exclaims for any recollection of this gang. Thinking back to his past life, before he left Absalom the first time, Rufus recalls some notoriety of the Wobbegang; named for the Wobbegong, a species of shark known for its masterful abilities of ambush, Rufus remembers the gang working in groups of 7 or 8 with great teamwork and cooperation to accomplish both simple and complex goals. Mostly young turks at the time, the bulk of their number were of Chelish heritage with a flare for the dramatic, often leaving creatures of the sea as their calling cards.

Zhou is more than nervous as questions come at him from both Oberon and Rufus; Well, sir, I know the gang, the Wobbegang puts all manner of sea-loving creatures on peoples doors as warnings at in their mouths and such when they choose to kill'em. And, I know that my cousin Chan was killed by them for crossing the gang on dealing demon dust. They mainly stick to the Puddles, I've heard. Squids might be used by them, sure. I don't when it happened, I just stopped by her office. This church was the only other place I heard mentioned in the discussion with master Leonel. Is there any other way I can help you masters before going back. I'm much saddened by your loss, but um, maybe Ms. Alice is still alive. That's more positive thinking I suppose. The Doxy is only second to The Grog Pit as the most infamous watering hole in the Docks. Sailors and deckhands flow in and out for the tavern's home-brewed spiced ale and perhaps one of Absalom's best dishes, Doxy's Fish & Chips. In fact, most will dare eat anything else served from this establishment since you never know who's working the kitchen on a given day.

Entering this open-air establishment just before noon finds the crowd rather slow. Everyone here looks interesting and not. It all depends on one's perspective and the type of information, trouble, or occasion you have in mind. The regulars are here:
Hickory (or Hick or Kate) is tending bar. A female human of average charisma and fierce reputation who earned her nickname for the wooden prosthetic leg she wears. Rumors abound at how she lost the flesh and bone version.
Sasha and Jynx, the infamous servers at The Doxy. These half elves are rumored to be wealthy but work at the Doxy to abuse the clientele. Sasha has a long-fade haircut dyed cherry red and carries an electrum-plated pistol around her neck. She could easily pass for a man if desired. Jynx has long blond hair in five braids and golden flecks in her eyes. She is quite attractive and has a reputation for smashing mugs over the heads of those who cross her. She is also a skilled swashbuckler and can wield a rapier with the best of them.
Brick is the ultimate rule of law in the bar. An Oread of reddish-orange complexion, Brick is typically asleep in his corner booth taking half a day to finish a pint. Yet, the Brawler is unstoppable when spurred to action and can easily separate limb from flesh and break bones with ease. Mostly, he launches troublemakers into the bay like a seasoned warrior hurling a spear.

Jynx gives your group a fun-loving grin; Sit where you will, but don't stand around like dumb-arse pelicans. I'll be right with ya.

Oberon:

"Probably best if we split up and try to get information through different means," Oberon mutters to his group, and then walks towards the bar, nodding towards the one-legged bartender as he's noticed. He takes a moment to look around the place, tapping his thumb on the bar as he casually takes in his surroundings and awaits for the bartender.

When Hickory finally serves him, he'll order a brew that she'll recommend, and then ask her if she's familiar with the Wobbegang.

Oberon looks around at the other patrons, then has a seat at the bar. Hick walks over; Hi. You're new. She then places a pint of spiced ale in front of the monk.

Oberon:

Oberon takes the spiced ale and gives it a taste. "Not new," he responds to the bartender. "Just been away a while is all. I'm back now though. Used to be that the Wobbegang likes to hang out around these parts. Any idea how a wayward son might get back in touch with them?"

Oberon enjoys the spiced ale after taking a few sips. He remarks to Hick, "Used to be that the Wobbegang likes to hang out around these parts. Any idea how a wayward son might get back in touch with them?" Hick gives Oberon a slant look, serves another customer and while working, mentions; The Wobs? Gangs come and go here. Just yell out, you might get an answer.

Garren walks into the Doxy, noticing Oberon at the bar sipping a spiced ale.

It has been a while since Roark has set foot in a tavern, so he doesn't wish to let his lack of local etiquette give him away. He takes a seat in the corner of the room and keeps his head down, doing his best to listen in to nearby conversations.

Oberon:

Oberon pauses in surprise as the bartender replied. Then a smile crossed his face. "Sound advice," he says, before downing the rest of the ale.

He turns around to lean back on the bar, rotating his head to get an idea of what people were doing in general so that he can see if any of them will have a suspicious reaction with what he's about to do. "WOBBEGANG!" Oberon yells. "WOBBLE WOBBLE WOBBLE GANG! If you smell like rotten fish, or your sorry face would only bring a dead fish to bed, you're probably a member. Anyone smell or see anyone like that around? Anyone?"

Rufus swaggers into the bar, long coat flapping and hat casually tossed over the back of a spare chair before he collapses into the rickety wooden seat. ""Oh, wench, bring us ale".

Settling he winces at the sudden abuse shouted by Oberon. A muttered "Gods damn, that won't help us.". He looks around staring for trouble drawing his gun as subtlety as possible under the table.
