View Full Version : What's the best-designed 3.5e/PF encounter you've ever played in?

What was your party composition? What was the terrain? How were the enemies set up?

I was thinking about a quest in BG2 where the player characters have to enter some artificial caverns to search for a fellow called Firkraag. At one point the characters step into a room like so:

(sorry about the size)

Essentially, it was the middle of a pit with elevated open walkways on either side (so ranged attacks go through) but several locked doors blocking the access points. Literally every class has a major role to play in this encounter. Melees have to bash the doors down ASAP so they can put the hurt on the orcish archers on the other side. Ranged attackers do what they can to stem the onslaught of arrows. Thieves try to avoid damage while picking the locks.

I was just thinking how well-designed this encounter was compared to, say, most of the encounters in Dragon Age on (essentially) open plains or corridor hallways.
