View Full Version : Undead with a Con score?

I've been thinking about this, but does this work?

Step 1. Play a Warforged. Throw random LA +2 templates that don't change your type or lose you the living subtype, if you want.
Step 2. Apply Incarnate Construct Template. You're now an LA +0 Humanoid (living).
Step 3. Get "Necropolitanized". This turns you into an Undead (Living). Barring being a "living" undead, do you get:
Con Score
Healed by Repair, Cure and Inflict Spells (though Cure spells heal half)
Can be raised/resurrected
Can benefit from potions/heroes' feast, although does not need to eat
Immune to effects requiring a Fortitude save unless they affect Objects or are harmless.

If so, this seems really powerful, if not broken,

Is there a sure-way to get Necropolitanized without direct DM intervention?

By applying the necropolitan template? It works with Humanoids, doesn't it?

It's also a contradiction in terms. "Living undead"? No sane DM would allow that.

Even ignoring all of the above, Constructs, Undead, and Outsiders are all at the top of the pyramid. Once you go Construct/Undead/Outsider, you can't go anywhere else(although Outsider+Construct or Undead+Outsider are doable, Undead+Construct is not really possible. Not even with Flesh Golems). At best, you become a Construct with "Undead Traits", which by its nature, includes "Does not have a Constitution score". Up to the DM how that interacts with the "Living Construct traits" where they do have a Con score.

Incarnate Construct specifically violates that, and turns a construct into a humanoid or a giant, depending on size. Then, necropolitan turns a Humanoid into an Undead.

...and you lose your Con score. I think the RAW is pretty clear.

Nod. You also lost your "Living Construct" stuff, so the Undead takes priority.

No, you're not. You're just a plain humanoid.
'Course, you could apply the Dustform template then Incarnate Construct on pretty much anything (+2 LA -2 LA, turns you into a Construct then a Humanoid), for a net bonus of stats.

Incarnate construct allows you to retain your subtypes.

So you can use some obscure series of templates and effects to do something the game wasn't supposed to do.

I'd think the "wasn't supposed to do" part should deter you.

(And actually, you can't. Because as stated by others, becoming Undead takes away your Con score.)

Certain subtypes are tied to types. You can't be a (Native) unless you're an outsider, you can't be an (Orc) unless you're humanoid and you can't be (living) unless you're a construct.

The Incarnate Construct template will take your (living) type away from you when it changes your Construct type.

Heres the deal though.. Incarnate Construct does allow you to retain your subtypes. However, being a Necropolitan changes you to Undead Humanoid. You lose the Living subtype because you are no longer living. You also lose your CON. And in all honesty, it means so little. Becoming Undead ties all your CON dependant benefits(sans HP) to CHA. Which you're getting a penalty with, by the way.

Not true. Some things let you use CHA instead of CON. Not all. Concentration, Fortitude Saves, for example.
