How large is the country that Azure City comes from? Is it a city-state? Is it a capital of some small kingdom?

I was just re-reading the Oots (Must be my forth time) and around strip 300 hundred Xykon and Redcloak were discussing their conquering of the world plans and Redcloak convinces Xykon to conquer a small country. Is this country Azure City or is Azure City part of the country and just first stop?

Most likely it's a City-State. It's pretty clear that Azure City is the and only the major city ruled by Shojo and the like. Likewise, we haven't seen the surrounding towns, if there are any, but it seems that they don't have any option to rule themselves.

Of course, all those nobles might beg to differ. :smallyuk:

The Azure City watchtowers are at least a couple of day's hard march from the city itself, so we can assume the writ of the city extends to a reasonable parcel of surrounding countryside. Whether there are any other towns of note in that area is another matter--we haven't seen them, but it doesn't mean they don't exist.

And if it's a city-state, most City-States of old had quite a bit of territory around them with villages, hamlets etc. Farming within city walls is not likely so the rice they eat (ate) in the AC has to come from somewhere. And the nobles might have some estates outside the AC to which they now flee to regroup for a ridiculous power struggle amongst themselves.
