I don't know the rules for mounts, but a phynxkin is medium while a gnome is small, so seems like it'd work.

Seems an obvious and rather straight-forward "yes" for this one.

Awesome! Is there an easy way to get it, without dipping druid or taking the Wild Cohort feat and having DM lenience?

The simple variant for Bard/Wizard/Sorcerer in Unearthed Arcana can pick up an animal companion as a druid. Or a dip into Beastmaster (Complete Adventurer). And there's Leadership to pick it up as a cohort. If you can wait until 9th, throw the Half-Dragon template on it and pick it up as a Dragon Cohort (Draconomicon).

You could also just buy it using the LoM slave rules. Or you can slap the Warbeast template on it, and just buy it then (since Warbeasts have an assigned market price).

Oddly enough, both the LoM slave rule (Cost = (CR, minimum 1)^2 × 100 gp) and the better warbeast (50 gp/HD for a warbeast of 3 HD or less), both turn out to be the same cost...but you can an extra HD (and other goodies) for Warbeast. Presumably the "/" means "per" not "divided by".

I'll probably pick up warbeast. Thanks.

Maybe, add in Magebred template from Eberron Campaign Setting?

That's got potential. But what does it do to the price? Also, thinking about Animal Companion (and maybe Arcane Hierophant's companion familiar): how do templates work with that?

That's got potential. But what does it do to the price?Usual assumption is: base price doubled.

Also, thinking about Animal Companion (and maybe Arcane Hierophant's companion familiar): how do templates work with that?Since list of animals for Animal Companion is heavily restricted, usually - Animal Companion wouldn't have any templates; it can be changed with some feats or/and class features; interaction with applied template which doesn't change the type (such as Mineral Warrior (http://archive.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ex/20031003e)) is unclear

Why is that so?

Just make sure your gnome doesn't smell tasty and you shouldn't have a problem Source talks about the dire version being comfortable around humans to, so there seems to be a lineage of domestication to them.

Why is that so?

I believe it's directly stated in the Magebred description.

Yep, it is.

Magebred Animal

An animal magically bred by House Vadalis might have any of a number of useful qualities—higher ability scores most notable among them—and is easier to train than a mundane animal. A magebred animal of any kind costs twice as much as its mundane equivalent.

A Gnome may, but a gentlegnome never would.
