Explosive Runes can be placed on small books, and I'd personally rule they could be placed on a small stone or scrap of wood as well. But that's not explicitly stated, and it would depend on the DM.

Explosive runes is alot of fun. ..DM ruled we could put it on paper and I mailed a letter of explosive runes(like 30 or so) to a king who i considered an a×× ...needless to say his castle disappeared

I just had a great idea. Make a fake plat coin. Write explosive runes on both sides. Flip plat cloin and fake dropping it ask them if they could pick that up for you
