Thinking about getting into 5E, and I'm looking for some good starter one-shots I can run for my prospective players. Several players have never played an RPG before, so preferably something simple, but with a "Wow!" factor.

The 5e starter kit story goes from 1 to 5 and had a decent among of monsters and adventure. I'd recommend that

What exactly do you need?

Do you have the three core rule books?

Is it the starter you want or adventure ideas?

For example you've been approached by a farmer and asked to check out some barrow mounds as he believes an errant shepherd has sheltered there last night due to the unseasonal stormy weather they've been experiencing.
All he wants is for you to take a look and escort him and any sheep with him back to his farm and he'll pay them a total of 50 gold.

The barrow mounds was recently opened and there's rumours of treasure inside its more likely the shepherd and his flock may have run across bandits but the chance to check out a barrow mounds and some easy money for doing so should be interesting enough who knows it's not as if it's home to a skeletal knight wielding an enchanted sword now isn't it?

Harried in Hillsfar was the first adventure for the 3rd season of the Adventure's League. WotC released it to the public in Dragon+ a while back. You can read/get the whole thing here:

I found it to be an excellent little adventure perfect for bringing new players into the game.
