Hi Forum,

I'm going to be starting a light hearted game pretty soon. Long story short, all the races are going to be replaced with anthro'ed animals and it's going to be a pretty light game.

Looking for music to set the scene for the starting area, something like Sound of the Shire from LOTR but everything I find is either ridiculously irish/scottish, or shortly evolves into full blown epic themes.

Just looking for a light song, that sets the scene of a quiet little farming village deep in a peaceful province. A place where the worst thing to have happened recently was a drunken argument between two farm hands, that was the gossip of the village for weeks (even though the argument was soon resolved with more drinks and amiable jests).

Any ideas?

Some of the songs are irish/scottish but not ridiculously so IMO.

On mobile, but look up the music from any of the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games, especially the starting towns and "Welcome to the World of Pokémon."

I like using my Music degree for good, so here goes. I like to give a few examples, and then point you in the direction of words that you could use in a google/youtube search.

When I think of the Shire, I think of "Concerning Hobbits" from LotR. It opens up with a penny whistle or flute depending on which version to which you are listening. A few measures in it's also got a violin or fiddle (which are basically synonyms... the only real difference is the method in which they are played). If you're looking for a similar sound, you can really help yourself out by using the instrumentation. Something like "Penny whistle violin medieval music" could turn up some useful results. This is the first result that I got from that search:

Just searching "penny whistle violin" got me this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CMsFjilBJGI

Both of these songs make me think of rolling dice around a table with a party of fellow adventurers.

There are other time periods that you can think about using. A lot of medieval music is based off of Ancient Music, specifically music from Greeks and Romans, though it's likely not quite as close to the light mood that you're going for. Renaissance music might get you a bit closer. I hope that helps.

I like "Northern Pastures (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rr6CE0wjAlk)" by Two Steps From Hell.

There's also some great songs in the Elder Scrolls soundtracks.
