Which is a better melee combat druid if I'm taking a wolf companion as a flanking buddy? Ideally, I want a GISH druid with the best level 1 spells.

Well, Wolf Shaman isn't going to affect your spells at all. But... I'd probably go with vanilla druid, because Wild Shape is going to be your main combat schtick, and canine forms aren't usually the optimal choice. Everything else is an upgrade, admittedly, but I don't know that the Wild Shape drop is worth it.
