I just reread a bit of what's been translated so far of the Experimental Log if the Crazy Lich (www.novelupdates.com/series/the-experimental-log-of-the-crazy-lich/) Web Novel and copared it a bit to the Overlord Light Novel and thought about what would've ended up as the more enjoyable (and functional) system for an hypothetical world setting?

Lets assume the maximum level pretty much all creatures could reach would be "Level 40".

With "Level 40" being defined differently here in regard to two systems ...

The first system (which is based more or less on how things function in the setting of the Experimental Log if the Crazy Lich web novel) works somewhat CR-like by assuming something along the lines of OverallLevel=(RHD/2)(rounded up)+Class level ... and up to X Level of LA (lets limit it to up to, say, +10 or, in special cases to leave enough room for utterly unplayable stuff like Prismatic Dragon Great Wyrms, to +15 or +20) still apply but don't count towards the level limit (somewhat like NWN2 handles it if I remember right) and just slow down the general level up process ... . With 79 HD, stuff like the prismatic dragon great wyrm still fits into "40 levels" (and obviously outmatch everyone else) due to its incredibly high amount of HD and generaly just possessing monstrous stats (and level 38? sorcerer spellcasting at minimum) but obviously outmatches pretty much everyone and everything that isn't remotely comparable but takes quite a bit to actually reaches these heights of power (due to the likely low amount of opponents of comparable CR, there isn't much of an option besides growing naturally and, as dragon, that takes quite a bit of time).

The second system (that is more or less based on the Overlord Light Novels system) works somewhat along the lines of simply figuring out functional monster classes (as if that would be an easy task, though) for monsters and making them actually take levels in those (as well as class levels) and for humanoids, it's the usual, they take the levels of Templates and their class levels (as in ... more or less the rules of how DnD 3.5 actually works). Obviously, High HD races (like Dragons) get the short end of the stick here in several ways (giving them LA based on whatever weird wizardry WoC did to give pass out those higly inflated LAs wouldn't really be fair to them ... what with those many RHD - for Great Wyrms up to around 40 RHD - making them hardly playable to begin with and might even be enough to justify negative LA) while regular player races dominate everything.

So ... which of those two systems might work better? Which do you prefer? Does someone of you have any suggestion in regard to improving those two systems?

Thanks in advance.
