Crown of the Free Sovereign
Common Artefact (available in most kingdoms)
No attunement required, but see text

This artefact is a piece of headwear that has since a long time been enchanted to do three things:

[list=1]
the item convinces the people that see the wearer that the wearer is the true sovereign of the nation. This effect only comes into effect when an agent representing the people ceremoniously places the crown on the wearer's head (Crowning). A person who crowns himself or manipulates the ceremony for his own gain won't gain the benefits from this item.
The item also shields the wearer from mental influence. Any effect that affects the mind is ended upon donning the crown and any person trying to influence the wearer of the crown will be identified as such the those present
This item identifies itself as the true item for the sovereign.

Crown of the Ursurped
Common Artefact (available in most kingdoms)
Attunement required, but see text

This artefact is a piece of headwear that has since a long time been enchanted to do three things:

[list=1]
the item tries to convince the people that see the wearer that the wearer is the true sovereign of the nation (Charisma Save DC 8+proficiency of the wearer + Charisma Modifier of the wearer). This effect only comes into effect when an agent representing the people ceremoniously places the crown on the wearer's head (Crowning).
The item also both shields and opens the wearer from mental influence. Any effect that affects the mind is ended upon donning the crown and any person trying to influence the wearer of the crown will be identified as such the those present. An exception is made for the person who is attuned to the crown: he can mentally influence the wearer of the crown freely and uninhibited. Any saves granted to a target by a spell that mentally manipulates the wearer offers no save instead for instant success.
This item tries to identify itself as the true item for the sovereign, however an Intelligence(investigation) check (DC the same as at #1) of the crown will reveal that this crown is not what it tries to identify as. At the moment of discovery everyone who can see the crown and the person succeeding on the Intelligence(investigation) check will share in the same discovery.
