Hey folks,

If a player wanted to use their pact star chain as a melee weapon what stats would you give it?

I think either whip or flail, their choice upon taking the pact, might be a potential option.

Any other ideas or thoughts on the above?

Thanks in advance,

Dove.

1d4 bludgeoning strength weapon with 10' reach?

It's an unusual request but upping the damage of a whip to 1d6 and calling it a chain would hurt nothing for a Pact of the Blade warlock. They're already mechanically weak from a melee perspective.

I would say just use a "glaive" for rules purposes. You can either say that theres a blade on the end, or just change the dmg type to bludgeoning.

Hmm,

Our DM denied the option for the other player.

He says that the chain wasn't meant to be used that way, and wasn't up to fluffing it as a weapon.

He considered allowing it to work with tavern brawler as an improvised weapon. A 1d4 5' reach, like a weaker flail.

Then went against using the class feature as such altogether. I guess it takes too much of the thunder from bladepact being able to summon a chain that can be used as a weapon in a pinch.
