First off, a basic story-telling technique is foreshadowing...

There is no reason to have fed the MitD a half-cooked stew if there isn't going to be something to come from it.

Belkar saying that he hadn't finished provides no entertainment/story value...so this can be concluded as foreshadowing.

Thusly:

MitD will get sick from the stew and cry, letting our heroes escape

Post your supposed destiny of the half-cooked stew!

I suppose Belkar's stew either causes the MitD to throw up or it was so delicious that he refuses to devour them

Not sure if that's going to happen. And I can't talk about why I think that, as the reasons are grounded in things in Start of Darkness. And even that's giving too much away. Suffice to say, MiTD's taste buds are likely non-existent, and his digestive system invulnerable.

Ah, but as that may be, he can still trick himself into thinking he is sick
(as he has already tricked himself into being hungry)

Nah, I bet Belkar's stew was too good, and the MitD is too full on stew and scones to eat the heroes.

What is Mama Bitterleaf's Secret +2 Circumstance Bonus to Cooking?

Tap water. Ordinary, everyday tap water, mixed with LSD!.
It certianly helped Bender defeat Elzar in a cooking contest!

Of course, the MitD tripping? Ooohhh... Not good.

I that the idea that every event in a story, or at least in films, had to be part of the plot was dropped about ten years ago. Some things happen for completely separate reasons. Belkar complaining that he hadn't finished is merely him being an artiste trying to create an excellent work of art.

Foreshadowing is not the only cliche out there. How about deus ex machina....

Elan to the rescue with a surprising but highly effective lullaby.

Or V...i've been here all along...to the rescue with suggestion

Or Xykon tells the Mitd to leave them alone. Wait! That's not Xykon. It's Sabine and Nale and Thog!

I think the MitD is just full, and is not hungry. The fact that Belkar didn't finish is just to show that they are in a hurry.

Indeed.

I think that the MitD won't chomp them down, because Xykon has wanted to wait to reveal it. Haley may need to make some Bluff checks, but it will come down to that

:haley: You're probably full from all that stew you ate. Why don't you take a run around the the battlefield to work that off and you can eat us when you get back. We'll wait.

:mitd: That's a great idea! You're so smart. ::leaves::

:belkar: Run now?

:haley: Run now.

The MitD will get worms from the under-cooked vulture and die

Naaah.. Once I seen Julia say to Nale "You would look cute without the beard", I really believed that it would be forshadowing.

However a few strips later when nale cut his beard and looked like Elan, I guessed Julia would be the first to tell the difference (Having never seen Elan). It was sooooooooooo obvious.

What happened? I was wrong... Nobody was able to tell the difference..

So forshadowing (at least in OOTS) doesn't work I believe..

I believe that that was simply because it got Nale really pissed off at her(saying that he looked cuter without the beard was basically saying Elan was cuter, even if she hadn't met him yet).
Nale appears to be sensitive to anything related to Nale.

When I read the undercooked part I just assumed it was to illistrate that the MitD will eat just about anything. :belkar: and :haley: will probibly just tell him that there's a wandering stew merchant in the opposite dirrection of them and it will believe them.

two questions:

1. did the mitd look angry...no! - sure it was unhappy to have flopsy and mr. stiffly taken away, but it liked the stew.
2. who do we know who is...what level 13?...and has maxed bluff? haley! her charisma is probably at least 14, if not 16...thats like a +19 to bluff...against the mitd.

- also if the mitd ate a moldy cheeseburger from behind a goblins sock drawer...it can eat a half cooked vulture stew.

It's a Belkarish thing to do. MitD might be immune to poison though.

Giant's Rule regarding the Forums: If you've made the theory public, and he reads it, he's going to change it, be damned how many pages he needs to spend explaining why he changed it.

Why does he do it: Every post made is a challenge to him. It's asking him to be unexpected.

How to best solve it: Stop theorizing the funniest conclusions. It just hurts the comic.

Really.

What will happen is that MITD will get full from the soup and scones and other things from the tea party and won't kill them because he has a stomach ache from eating too much.

I think Belkar is going to not stab people or get his Mark of Justice removed. In fact, I think Belkar is going to die soon, probably doing something really heroic and/or unselfish for the benefit of the party.

Also, Belkar will run out of one-liners.

An exaggeration. He only said he felt like doing so.

Of course, feel like and doing are not unrelated, so if you want to see something in the comic it can be wise to put in in spoilers.

Howzabout this for outlandish predictions?

I think the MitD devours Haley and Belkar and spits them both out to rot with Roy. Then Nale gets his revenge on Elan and ambushes both he and Durkon, sinking the ship that they and Lord Hinjo are currently aboard.

Shortly thereafter....

V, coming to after several hours pinned under dead hobgoblins and Azurites, discovers the fate of his/her friends. Determining that the only way to bring down both Elan and Xykon is to reassemble his/her friends, he/she loots the city and comes up with enough cashola to pay for several raise deads from a temple in a nearby city. The only problem? The souls of the Order are unwilling to return to life and they have all been sent to their respective afterlives, depending on alignment, deities worshipped, et cetera. V must secure an Amulet of the Planes (or similar item) and persuade his/her companions to allow themselves to return to life in order to wreak vengeance on Elan and put an end to the threat of Xykon.

Once V gathers the companions, the Order attempts to reenter the Prime Material only to be stopped by a mysterious masked warrior who defeats them handily. Roy is the first to recognize the unique fighting style of the warrior; it is the shade of Miko Miyazaki, attempting one last time to prevent what she sees as the unjust resurrection of the Order. It is only through the intervention of the shade of Lord Shojo, who forgives her for his death, that she truly atones for her misdeeds and ascends into the afterlife of the Twelve Gods.

How's that for wild, baseless speculation?

Let's see... Haley is a rogue, and Belkar had to avoid Miko in the past. It should be obvious by now:

Mikey is going to escort them back to the city by hiding them in his shadow! I mean, he does owe them for a tasty meal, and he's probably too full to eat them now!

I don't think Rich has trouble shifting and twisting the story away from the forums.

If everybody here were to, let say totally avoid posting SPOILERS it wouldn't keep people from predicting, would it? The prediction is not just some random guy's thought. MOST people think along the same lines here. It would just hang there, in the air and in everybody's minds until the day it surfaces in a new strip. :smallconfused:

I think the reason we always get "unpredicted" material is NOT because Rich twists the storyline away from the forum's predictions. It is because Rich is damn GOOD at what he is doing and never writes cliched story material that is predictible enough for us idiot speculation posters...
