It would be interesting to make a caster/gish build that specializes in spells that alter or do other weird things with body parts (both the caster's own, or another target). There seems to be a surprising number of them.

Gotta do it with a fleshwarper build.

Be sure to toss in osteomancer and flux adept for weird bones and giant hands, and disciple of the eye for ray-shooting eyestalks.

This got me thinking, I'd like to compile a list of spells/powers that transform or do other weird tings with body parts.

I seem to recall a spell that transforms an enemies hand into a spider that attacks him?

Beast Claws (Druid 1)
Glorytongue (Psion 1)

Nah, Spiderhand turns the caster's hand into a spider that's mostly useful to scout out things than attack. Brainspider is the one that you cast on an enemy. I think OA had lots of these transformation spells, much of which are kept on the Wu Jen list and should be updated in CA. I think there's also a bunch of these in BoVD.

Yep, that's a 1st level Druid spell in the BoVD. That book also possesses Lahm's Finger Darts, another spell that turns your tongue into a serpent, another one that turns your eyes into beholder-esque eyestalks, and yet one more spell that transforms someone else's eyes into acid. That last one might not fit the theme entirely, but I figured I'd include it in there just in case.

Fist of Stone (SpC) turns, well, your fist into stone.
Blood Wind (SpC) lets you make melee natural attacks at range, and its fluff text says it makes the subject's limbs lengthen...might be in-theme.
Bite of the Were[X] (SpC) definitely messes with your jaws, and in some cases also gives you claw attacks.
Silverbeard (SpC) turns your beard silver, or makes you grow a beard.
Hoard Gullet (Dragon Magic) causes you to grow a magical second stomach.
The "Investiture of the [X]" line (mostly Fiendish Codex II, I think) cause you to grow some of the physical features of the fiends they emulate.
Arms of Plenty (Lords of Madness) grows two extra limbs that have claw attacks.
Fuse Arms (SpC) combines multiple limbs into one or two, stronger limbs.
Tongue Serpents (BoVD) is the aforementioned spell that turns your tongue into (one or more) snakes.
Spider Legs (BoVD) grows, well, spider legs, which you can use to climb stuff.

Snakegut (Sorc/wiz 4) gets a giant constrictor growing out of your stomach, that attacks and grapples and helps with some skill checks. 1 round/level, but that's enough to cast before entering a room by this point.

More from BoVD...

Preserve Organ - 0th level spell to keep body parts not attached to bodies for whatever reason from decomposing.
Devil's Tail - 1st level on Diabolic Domain. Grow a tail you can attack with. Can be used as a hand if you have the Prehensile Tail feat.

Girallon's Blessing (SpC) gets you two extra arms.

There are too many spells that give you claws or special eyes to name.

Especially as an Osteomancer, you'll probably have a bunch of natural attacks on each appendage. Blood Wind might be a decent option to ensure that you actually get to attack with all of them.

For having an enemy's own hand attack him, you want Grim Revenge, a 4th level spell from BoVD.

It tears off the target's hand and and turns it into a miniature wight, which attacks them.

I'm sure there used to be a spell that turned the opponents hand into a spider which attacked him - maybe it was 2E? I vaguely remember it being a Drow spell...

Oh you mean the best scouting spell ever (for the early levels)? The one that druids get?

I know the one you're talking about exists in 3.5 but I don't remember where it's from either. DotU maybe?

Corporeal Instability (SpC) basically melts a dude
Quillfire (SpC) makes you sprout poisonous quills and shoot them at people
Snakebite (SpC) turns one of your arms into a snake.
Gutsnake (SpC) makes you grow a bite-y tentacle from your stomach
Avascular Mass (SpC) turns an enemy's blood vessels into some sort of horrible Entangle spell
Flensing (SpC) skins a guy alive
Extract Water Elemental (SpC) sucks the fluids out of a guy and animates them
The Disembodied Hand invocation (CM) lets one of your hands scurry around like Thing from the Addams Family.

If we're going into invocations, I think Crawling Eye qualifies for this.

Create Crawling Claw (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?319262-Optimize-Create-Crawling-Claw-(MC-MoF30)) from Monstrous Compendium: Monsters of Faerun(?) turns a pile of hands into a bunch of construct minions.

Fleshshiver from Spell Compendium is a nice little spell that snaps the target's bones by making their flesh squeeze them.

The mother cyst spells should get a mention.

I can think of a few spells from BoEF that would qualify as well.

No, definitely not thinking of Spider Hand (Clr 1, Drd 1) from BoVD.

Checked DotU, not there either.

I'm beginning to suspect it was a 2E thing.

...thanks everyone for the great suggestions. Invocations are a good idea too!

I know precisely frak-all about 2E spells. It's definitely somewhere in 3e. Maybe it wasn't a spell?

And it wasn't Create Crawling Claw? It has a fluff text blurb about how many adventurers find themselves eventually attacked by their own former left hand.

I remember an image of a victim of the effect looking at his spider-hand in abject horror.

Right. So, in lieu of being able to find the spell Thurbane is looking for, I propose the following method to turn Spider Hand into something like the spell he wants.

1. Be an arcane spellcaster of some sort. Preferably Wizard. Take Extra Spell (Spider Hand).

2. Take the Magic of the Land feat.

3. Gain entry to the Spellguard of Silverymoon (SoS) PrC. (If your world doesn't have a Spellguard, found it yourself). Take at least 4 levels.

Now, using the Spellguard class ability of SoS, any spell that improves AC, increases a saving throw modifier or grants additional hit points can be turned from a personal spell into a touch spell.

Magic of of the Land allows any spell to heal 2hp/spell level, including Spider Hand, as long as you make a Knowledge (nature) check, which should be easy for a wizard, and are in a natural setting.

As a result of all this, you can now cast Spider Hand as a touch spell when in any natural setting, which detaches the target's hand, turns it into a Small monstrous spider and allows the caster to control said spider (which includes making it attack the target).

Some helpful things to assist in this might be an Acorn of Far Travel (always count as being in a natural setting) and a way to use touch spells at range, like the aforementioned Glorytongue.
