I'm sure that this has been discussed to death, but I didn't find it, so a pointer to an existing discussion would be fine.

I'm trying to find a good way of representing characters on a laptop, pad, or phone. I've seen a bunch of apps, but most of them don't keep track of everything for you.

I know that a bunch of apps (like Squire) have been given C&D orders by WotC, which i totally understand. But why, then can't I seem to find a similar app put out by WotC themselves? Is there such a thing, and i just haven't found it?

Barring that, what is best method that people have been using?

I found this (https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/fifth-edition-character-sheet/id967650851?mt=8) for IOS

And this (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wgkammerer.testgui.basiccharactersh eet.app&hl=en_GB) for Android.

But I do not think this is what you are looking for.

By representing characters, do you mean picturewise or sheetwise? If sheetwise, Ive been using

This app, or the free version at least, and its great if you already have your sheet made.

I meant character sheet.

I'd like something that automatically adds things when you level up, and knows what spells there are, and what things gnome gets.

This is all stuff that should be really easy to program. but WotC has copyright, of course... I just wish they would make the program so I could buy it...

There is one called Fight Club which is beautifully presented and usable. It is only pre-loaded with SRD content so it's likely you'd need to add some abilities and whatnot yourself, but it's easy enough to do that. I have it on my iPhone and iPad, so I don't know if it's available for other platforms.

Good heavens yes. That and an app for helping DMs to run adventures without flipping between about twenty different apps and pieces of paper.

I've been using and loving this (http://www.dmsguild.com/product/186823/Character-Sheet--MPMBs-fullyautomated-Printer-Friendly-character-generator).

The creator has all of the latest UA and book info and it autofills all the applicable fields for you. It's AWESOME.

Just save your character as a pdf and you're good to go for using it on your phone or tablet.

The only drawback... literally the only thing I can find as a minor negative, is that you have to have Acrobat pro, DC, or XI. All I had to do was download the trial version and use that. The only consession I have to make now that the trial has run out is changing my image files to pdf format before importing them to the sheet.

I hope you guys love this as much as I do...

Also, please give him as much as you can afford so he keeps making these awesome tools for us!

I also use this one. If you pay 2.99 for the full version it will let you create and level characters all the way to twenty. It has all the officially published races, including the Volo's races and all the classes, with most of the class options. It's a super handy app for a very affordable price. I can fully make a character(mechanically) in like 5 minutes.

It lets you make the homebrew stuff, and import it to the character sheet app.

That is now outdated due to the C&D. They had to roll it back from 2.27. But if you look you might get lucky.

The easy but somewhat expensive answer is to use the character creator built into the D&D Beyond site; it's absolutely great for both creation and maintenance. Of course, the negative is you have to buy the books electronically in order for anything not in the SRD to be available. If your DM has set up a campaign for you and paid the appropriate subscription fees, anything they have purchased is available for you as well as long as you're in the campaign.

I would expect any non-DDB creator containing things outside the SRD are going to be shut down, as Wizards clearly wants to funnel people towards their site and the associated income they could make off it. Hey, they're a business, and that's clearly part of their business model, and, for my purposes, I love that service in general.

So, not a separate app and certainly not free, but there's your creator if you want a fully-fleshed one.

Our group has pretty much entirely switched to MPMB's charsheet. You do need Acrobat to get full functionality, but Acrobat DC is free.

The MPMB character sheet program referenced aboved can still be found around here and there if you know where to look. I am truly amazed by it and it's updates. The last page player reference sheet is also a work of art of condensed data, the closest I have ever seen to "5E on one page", and I give props to the creator.

I've recently setup a character on dicecloud.com (https://dicecloud.com/). It requires a bit more manual input (especially for stuff outside the SRD), but I really like how you can put in all the descriptions basically where and however you like so during play you don't have to lookup anything character-related in books or pdfs. There are functions (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1UfZ9e9Z9XFiZ7uapyDxrh9UskZSmPGa-nWr7mCqzevw/htmlview) to automatically adjust variables when you level up. For creating a sheet avrae (https://avrae.io/)'s autochar command helps a lot: it puts in all the class and race feature descriptions for you.

You can easily share the sheet with the DM and it even runs well enough in e-reader browsers (wouldn't like to edit stuff with it, but it's fine for checking things and lowering HPs/spellslots) for those who aren't blessed with more expensive tablets.
